Chapter 357: Heroine and Her Gang Having Fun II
Nyx and Vrinda had spent weeks in the Vardant Region, exploring its culture, understanding the plant-like beings, and even adopting some of their customs. By now, they blended in so well that no one suspected they were outsiders. However, their time of peace was about to end in the most ridiculous way possible.
The two of them wandered into a bustling town square where plant people were gathered around a massive vine that stretched across the center of the square. On one side stood a team of plant people pulling with all their strength, and on the other side was another group doing the same.
“Is this… tug-of-war?” Vrinda asked, tilting her head.
“Looks like it,” Nyx said. “Except instead of a rope, they’re using a vine. A giant, living vine.”
As they watched, the vine suddenly lashed out at one of the teams, whipping them into the air before slamming them gently onto a pile of soft moss. The crowd erupted into laughter.
“I think it’s fighting back,” Vrinda said, suppressing a giggle.
“This looks fun,” Nyx said. “Let’s join!”
Before Vrinda could protest, Nyx marched straight into the fray and grabbed the vine. The plant people on her side cheered, welcoming her enthusiasm.
Vrinda sighed and followed, reluctantly grabbing the vine as well. “If we get thrown into a tree, I’m blaming you.”
—
The match began, and both sides pulled with all their might. The vine resisted, jerking wildly and making it nearly impossible to gain any ground. Nyx gritted her teeth and leaned back, using her time magic subtly to slow down the opposing team’s movements.
“Cheater!” Vrinda hissed.
“It’s called strategy,” Nyx said with a smirk.
The vine seemed to sense Nyx’s interference and retaliated by wrapping itself around her waist.
“Hey! No fair!” Nyx shouted as the vine hoisted her into the air.
Vrinda burst out laughing. “Serves you right!”
The plant people on Nyx’s team tried to pull her back down, but the vine swung her around like a pendulum.
“Vrinda, do something!” Nyx yelled, flailing her arms.
Vrinda wiped tears of laughter from her eyes and grabbed the vine. “Fine, but only because I don’t want to explain this to Maris later.”
She focused her illusion magic, making it look like the vine was covered in glowing, poisonous thorns. The vine hesitated, shuddering as if it could see the fake thorns.
Nyx dropped to the ground with an unceremonious thud. “Finally!” she groaned.
The crowd clapped and cheered, mistaking their antics for part of the game. One of the plant people approached and handed them what looked like a glowing fruit.
“What’s this?” Nyx asked, inspecting it.
“A prize for your… uh… creative efforts,” the plant being said in their soft, rustling voice.
Vrinda snorted. “See, Nyx? Even when you cheat, you win something.”
“Hey, I didn’t cheat that much,” Nyx said, biting into the fruit. Her face immediately twisted. “Ugh! It tastes like dirt and grass!”
Vrinda doubled over with laughter. “Well, what did you expect? It’s made by plants for plants!”
Nyx glared at her but couldn’t keep a straight face. The absurdity of the situation was too much.
Later that evening, as they sat under a glowing tree, Nyx poked the fruit with a stick. “This thing is mocking me.”
Vrinda chuckled. “Maybe next time, don’t get into a fight with a vine.”

“Hey, at least I didn’t get whipped into the air by a flower,” Nyx shot back.
Vrinda groaned. “Are you ever going to let that go?”
“Nope,” Nyx said with a grin, taking another defiant bite of the horrible fruit.

Maris, Lucan, and Bing had fully immersed themselves in the Vardant Region’s culture. The city of Verdalis, with its glowing foliage and vine-covered streets, had become their temporary home. On this particular day, the trio decided to visit the famous Leaf Spa, a luxurious retreat known for its rejuvenating treatments.
Bing skipped ahead, her plant-woman disguise barely containing her excitement. “Mom! Dad! They said the mud baths here make you feel ten years younger!”
Lucan sighed, adjusting the leafy crown that Maris insisted he wear as part of his disguise. “I don’t need to feel younger. I’m perfectly fine the way I am.”
“Come on, Lucan-sama,” Maris said, her plant-woman form shimmering in the sunlight. “We’ve been walking around for days. A little relaxation won’t hurt.”
Lucan grumbled but followed along, knowing he couldn’t win against Maris when she made up her mind.
The spa attendants greeted them warmly, their petal-like faces glowing with hospitality. After a brief introduction to the spa’s offerings, they were led to a room filled with large, bubbling mud pools surrounded by cascading vines.
“This is the Rejuvenation Pool,” the attendant explained. “The mud here is infused with nutrients from the heart of the Vardant Region. It’s the most popular treatment.”
Bing was already halfway into the mud before the attendant finished speaking. “This feels amazing!” she declared, sinking in with a delighted sigh.
Maris chuckled and stepped in gracefully, her plant-woman disguise blending perfectly with the earthy surroundings.
Lucan, however, stood at the edge, eyeing the mud warily. “I don’t see how sitting in a pool of dirt is relaxing.”
“Lucan-sama, just get in,” Maris said, her tone leaving no room for argument.
With a resigned sigh, Lucan waded into the mud, immediately regretting his decision as the warm, sticky substance clung to him.
“This is horrible,” he muttered.
“You’ll get used to it,” Maris said with a smile.
Everything was going well until Bing decided to start a mud fight.
“Hey, Dad!” she called out, flinging a glob of mud at Lucan’s face.
Lucan froze, the mud slowly sliding down his cheek. “Bing…”
Bing giggled and ducked behind Maris, who laughed but held up her hands in mock surrender. “Don’t involve me in this!”
Lucan smirked, scooping up a handful of mud. “You’ve started a war, Bing.”
What followed was utter chaos. Mud flew in all directions as the three of them launched an all-out assault on each other. Maris, trying to shield herself, slipped and fell into the mud with a laugh. Bing squealed as Lucan’s precision shots hit her square in the face.
The attendants peeked in, their petal-faces showing a mix of amusement and horror. “Is this… normal for them?” one whispered.
“I think they’re having fun,” another replied.
By the time they were done, the once-pristine mud pool was a battlefield of laughter and splashes.
“We look ridiculous,” Lucan said, wiping mud from his face.
Maris leaned against him, her laughter bubbling over. “But it was fun, wasn’t it?”
Lucan sighed, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Maybe a little.”
Bing, covered from head to toe in mud, grinned. “This was the best spa day ever!”
As they left the spa later that day, cleaned up but still giggling at their antics, they passed by a group of plant-women who gave them curious looks.
“They think we’re weird, don’t they?” Lucan whispered.
“Probably,” Maris said, linking her arm with his. “But that’s part of the fun.”
Bing skipped ahead, humming a cheerful tune. “Let’s find the next place to explore!”
