Chapter 178: Rain Of Attacks
As the first spell descended, Ethan swiftly sidestepped, scooping up the treasure chest and transforming into bear form.
Boom…
A barrage of magical attacks rained down, most of them slamming into the spot where he had just stood. A few spells struck him, and a flurry of ‘-1!’ damage numbers floated above his head like a fountain.
After transforming into the bear, his health, which had been a staggering 13,090, plummeted rapidly. In an instant, it dropped to just 10%.
Ethan crushed the Advanced Instant Health Potion he had been holding in his mouth, along with a Medium Slow Health Recovery Potion. In the system shop, the Advanced Instant Health Potion cost 75 gold coins each. In one gulp, he had just consumed over $75,000 in real-world cash!
Whoosh…
+13,000!
The potion took effect just as his health dropped to a mere 90 points, saving him by the skin of his teeth.
The Advanced Instant Health Potion was a bit of a waste for him at this stage. It could have restored 25,000 health points, but since his maximum health was lower, it only restored 13,000. Even after the instant heal, his health continued to drop.
Finally, after dodging most of the focused attacks, he had taken nearly 17,000 points of damage. If he hadn’t taken the potion, he would have been instantly killed. The only reason he survived was that the attacks hit him in quick succession, giving him just enough time to drink the potion.
Ethan knew the next wave of attacks would be even more intense.
If he was killed within 10 minutes of looting the treasure, the items would 100% drop.
“All Shield Tanks, form up and block him! Melee units, move in! Whoever kills him gets 100 gold coins!” shouted the mage in the blue robe, his face practically turning green with rage.
He had allied with nine level-four guilds, setting up over a dozen checkpoints on the mountain path to block any intruders. Yet, a sneaky Druid had still managed to slip through. What were those Priests stationed at the checkpoints doing? He had explicitly ordered them to spam Radiant Illumination on cooldown to reveal any stealth classes. How had this Druid still gotten through?
While the mage was fuming, Ethan was in a dire situation.
Hundreds of Shield Tanks charged at him, followed by a sea of melee classes. These players had just been wiped out by the Snow Ape King during its frenzy, which had unleashed a devastating Thunder Stomp. After respawning, they had been stationed on the outskirts, kept away from the front lines to avoid further casualties. Now, under the orders of their guild leaders, they were closing in on Ethan.
Seeing the hundreds of Shield Tanks and thousands of melee units about to encircle him, Ethan felt a pang of despair. He had been too greedy. If he had taken the first item and left immediately, the enemy wouldn’t have had time to surround him.
But his greed for the treasure chest had cost him four seconds, giving the enemy commanders enough time to coordinate their forces.
Dodging the relentless ranged attacks, Ethan charged forward as a bear, crashing into three Shield Tanks.
Slam!
Thanks to his higher level and superior strength stats, Ethan’s Slam sent one of the Shield Tanks flying.
The other two Shield Tanks moved in, pressing their shields against the bear’s flanks, halting Ethan’s momentum.
Boom, boom, boom…
Hundreds of instant-cast spells bombarded him.
Ethan’s health dropped by several hundred points in an instant. Although the Medium Slow Health Recovery Potion was still ticking, if he remained pinned down, he would become a sitting duck. To make matters worse, many of the ranged attackers were Frost Mages, and his movement speed was reduced to a mere 20%.
Transform: Panther!
The Druid’s transformation ability could dispel any movement-impairing magical effects. The slowing debuff vanished instantly as Ethan shifted from the massive bear into a sleek panther, his body shrinking in size.
The two Shield Tanks, caught off guard, left a small gap for Ethan to exploit.
Swift Stride, the boot skill, activated.
In panther form, his movement speed, already at 137%, surged to 207%.

A black blur shot through the gap between the two shields.
A Paladin stood in his path, reacting quickly as Ethan lunged toward him. The Paladin unleashed Shock and Judgment in rapid succession.
But with his incredible speed, Ethan dodged the Shock effortlessly. The Shock skill could knock an opponent back a step, and in this situation, getting hit would mean certain death.
Ethan took the Judgment head-on. Although Judgment had a brief stun effect, the level difference between Ethan and the Paladin reduced its duration to almost nothing. The stun lasted less than 0.1 seconds before Ethan shook it off.
Shred!
-696!
The Paladin was instantly killed, collapsing to the ground.
This was the first time Ethan had used an offensive skill in this battle!
Behind the fallen Paladin stood a Dual-Blade Rogue, who froze for a moment upon seeing the damage number above his ally’s head. Before he could react, a pair of razor-sharp claws filled his vision.
-648!
Another instant kill!
Both the Paladin and the Rogue had sacrificed all their stamina and endurance for maximum damage output. The Rogue was two levels lower than the Paladin, and against Ethan, whose attack power had reached a staggering 1,725, combined with the 200% damage multiplier from Shred and the 50% skill effectiveness boost from his Divine Ability [Focus], the result was inevitable.
With Shred enhanced, Ethan’s attack dealt a devastating 5,175 points of damage, ensuring instant death for anyone in his path.
For a moment, Ethan carved a bloody path through the melee fighters. There was no dramatic scene of enemies flying in all directions—anyone who faced him simply dropped dead.
Soon, the duration of Swift Stride ended, and his movement speed dropped. But that didn’t stop him from continuing his rampage.
“Ranged units, attack! What are you waiting for?” roared the mage in the blue robe, his previously calm demeanor replaced by the fury of a raging lion.
“Boss, there are too many of our own people around him! We can’t use AoE spells, and single-target attacks can’t hit him!” one of the ranged attackers shouted.
Ethan continued to push toward the outskirts, weaving and dodging single-target attacks from the ranged units. At the same time, he selectively avoided crowd-control skills from the melee fighters around him.
He prioritized dodging stuns and other disabling effects, while tanking direct damage attacks. Even in panther form, most attacks only dealt 10-20 points of damage to him.
As long as he avoided being crowd-controlled, he had a chance to break through!
Earlier, he had used his speed boost to escape the Shield Tanks’ encirclement. Now, he was surrounded by melee DPS classes. The Shield Tanks were left behind, unable to catch up due to the chaos of the melee fighters.
These melee units, desperate to claim the 100 gold coin bounty, had become obstacles for their own allies.
The promise of such a high reward had clouded their judgment, and they were now blindly charging at Ethan, each hoping to be the one to land the killing blow.
