Chapter 215: Half Truth
The video ended, and TheActor glared at ReaperX with pure hatred. ReaperX, on the other hand, looked panicked.
“TheActor,” Ethan said, his eyes narrowing into slits as he maintained a calm demeanor, “tell us what they said.”
TheActor raised his head, regret etched across his face. “Boss, I’m sorry,” he said before turning to address the crowd.
“The video just showed ReaperX meeting with someone from Steele Consortium. In their conversation, they discussed how ReaperX would receive a 150,000 cash bonus for every 300-man battalion leader he poached from Renegade Alliance.
For every regular elite corps member, he’d get 3,000. With 689 elite corps members and four battalion leaders here, ReaperX stands to earn 2.6 million in bonuses. And if he forces Guild Leader Ethan to sign off on our exit, he’ll get double that amount.
As for us, once we join Blade Syndicate, we won’t be getting five times our current pay as ReaperX claimed—it’ll be seven times. The benefits are good, but ReaperX pocketed the extra two times for himself.”
The crowd erupted in chaos.
“ReaperX, you son of a bitch! You sold us out and used us as mere tools for counting money!” shouted one enraged member, lunging forward to grab ReaperX by the collar.
ReaperX struggled, his voice frantic. “Don’t listen to him! This is all a setup! TheActor’s been bribed! How do we know he’s not making this up?” he protested, his face red with desperation.
The crowd hesitated. ReaperX had been with them for a long time, and his reputation for loyalty and camaraderie was solid. TheActor’s accusations were hard to believe, and many began to doubt whom to trust.
Ethan, however, wasn’t done.
“Oh? Is that so?” Ethan chuckled.
With a wave of his hand, he replayed the video—this time with sound.
Even TheActor was stunned. It turned out Ethan had been in control the entire time. By having TheActor translate first and letting ReaperX try to defend himself, Ethan had set the stage for an even more devastating reveal. Now, with the audio playing, there was no room for doubt. Ethan wasn’t just exposing ReaperX—he was erasing any trace of trust the guild had ever placed in him.
The video played, and the crowd’s anger grew even fiercer. In the footage, ReaperX repeatedly referred to his fellow guild members as “those idiots.” TheActor had omitted this detail earlier, perhaps out of some lingering respect for ReaperX, but now the truth was laid bare.
The fury in the crowd was palpable. Even the other three battalion leaders—FrozenYears, Cupid’s Wrath, and VoidKnight, looked ready to kill ReaperX.
“Alright,” Ethan said, his voice steady. “Now that everyone understands the situation, FrozenYears, Cupid’s Wrath, VoidKnight, and TheActor—I’ve always considered you brothers. If you want to leave, I won’t stop you. As battalion leaders, if your hearts are no longer with Renegade Alliance, then our brotherhood ends here.
I came today to show you the truth. Even if we can no longer be brothers, I don’t want you to be deceived. From this day forward, if we meet again, we’ll be enemies. And I won’t hold back. Take care, everyone…”
Ethan patted each of the four leaders on the shoulder, his expression somber.

[TheActor has been approved to leave the guild!]
Ethan had signed off on their exit requests without hesitation.
Under the stunned and helpless gazes of the guild members, the four battalion leaders were teleported out of the guild headquarters and sent to the main city’s teleportation hub.
But Ethan wasn’t finished. He turned to ReaperX, his expression cold. “As for you…”

[ReaperX has been forcibly removed from the guild!]
Before Ethan could even finish his sentence, the system notification popped up. Ethan’s face twisted into a bemused smirk. “He’s quick, I’ll give him that.”
ReaperX was also teleported out of Renegade Alliance’s headquarters.
“Enforcement Squad!” Ethan called out.
“Here!” Five Druids and five Rogues materialized out of stealth, their sudden appearance startling the remaining elite corps members.
The defectors tensed, wondering if Ethan was about to order an attack on them. But his next words put them at ease.
“ReaperX is your target,” Ethan said calmly.
“Understood, Boss. We’ll make sure he doesn’t set foot outside the Starter Zone,” one of the Rogues replied.
With a faint whoosh, the ten members of the Enforcement Squad vanished back into stealth.
Ethan turned his attention to the six hundred or so players still standing before him.
“Now, let’s talk about you,” he said. “You have ten minutes to decide. If you want to leave, go ahead. I’m sure you’ve already signed compensation agreements with ReaperX, so you won’t suffer any losses.
If you choose to stay, withdraw your exit applications. But as punishment, you’ll be removed from the elite corps. As for those who leave—after today, we’ll be on opposite sides. I won’t hold back if we meet again. Take care of yourselves.”
Ethan let out a self-deprecating laugh. “You’ve been with Renegade Alliance for a while now. Maybe I’ve been neglecting you. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be looking to jump ship. But don’t worry—I won’t send the Enforcement Squad after you.”
His tone was heavy with resignation. These were ordinary people, after all. In the real world, they might have families to support. Wanting to earn more wasn’t a crime.
“Boss, we’re sorry!” someone shouted from the crowd.
“Yeah, we messed up. We’re sorry!” echoed many others, as most of the six hundred players lowered their heads deeply in regret.
Ethan had initially said he wouldn’t cover their losses, but after the video played, they realized ReaperX’s promises were half-truths at best. If they left the guild now, the breach-of-contract penalties would be deducted from their accounts.
According to Renegade Alliance’s elite corps contracts, the penalties for leaving without approval were astronomical. Their gold would drop into the negatives, and their equipment would be confiscated by the system.
ReaperX had promised compensation, but it was contingent on them joining Blade Syndicate. Marcus Skeiner, the leader of Blade Syndicate, had even signed the agreement, and the system had notarized it. But after hearing ReaperX call them “idiots” in the video, their trust in him had shattered. How could they follow someone so two-faced?
But if they didn’t follow him, they’d be stuck with the massive penalties themselves. Staying in Renegade Alliance? How would the others view them after this? And being removed from the elite corps would mean a significant drop in income.
The crowd fell into an uneasy silence, each member grappling with their decision.
