Chapter 63: Frostbound Legacy
This chest guaranteed a Dark Gold-tier item. If lucky, maybe even a Legendary treasure.
And yet, Ethan couldn’t open it.
He ran his fingers over the prismatic glow of the chest, reluctant to step away.
But there was no choice. He’d have to come back later.
Ethan moved through another passageway, the air turning sharp with biting cold. He was getting close.
Stepping out of the tunnel, he entered a vast chamber.
The ground stretched before him, nearly encased in ice. Right at the passage’s entrance, a crimson orb floated in midair, radiating heat that clashed violently against the surrounding frost.
Without it, the entire space would have been a frozen tomb.
Below the orb, a circular hole had melted into the ice, where water trickled into an unseen abyss.
And in the heart of the chamber, floating above the frozen ground, was a translucent blue longbow.
Its entire form shimmered like sculpted ice, a weapon of exquisite craftsmanship. The bow’s graceful arc gleamed under the dim light, its body etched with ancient, intricate runes.
A name hovered above it.
[Frostbound Reverie]
Near the entrance, opposite the bow, was the crimson orb.
[Infernal Core]
A Legendary weapon and a Divine-tier material.
Legendary gear exceeded even Divine-tier equipment in significance. Though the stats might be similar, only weapons and armor once wielded, were granted the title of Legendary.
And Frostbound Reverie?
It had belonged to The Winter Queen.
Once, she had ruled over her own dominion, carrying the solemn duty of maintaining the Cycle of Renewal. It was her sacred mission, to guide the souls of fallen nature spirits, long-forgotten demigods, and the wild gods of old back into the mortal realm.
Her domain, Azure Expanse, was revered as a sanctuary, the final resting place for all departed spirits of nature. Unlike the underworlds of other realms, there was no suffering here, only peace.
Then came the catastrophe.
When Terra and Azure collided, Terra was cast into eternal darkness.
Azure Expanse was shattered.
With no choice, the Winter Queen led her people and her beloved companion to Azure, seeking refuge. But safety was an illusion.
For a thousand years, they waged war against the abyssal horrors that spilled forth from the wreckage of Terra. They carved out a place for themselves on Azure, finally earning a fragile peace.
But war was never the true threat.
It was humanity.
With no more external enemies, Azure’s native inhabitants turned their gaze inward—toward the Queen and her kind.

Their fascination with the Queen’s eternal life soon twisted into an obsession. Scholars and warlords alike sought to uncover the secret of immortality by dissecting her people.
And when mere study failed, they took the next step.
Using forbidden sorcery, technology, and the remains of eldritch creatures, humanity created a being of unfathomable destruction—
[The Infernal Tyrant]
They drove the monstrosity into the Queen’s domain, its flames scorching everything in its path. The inhabitants of Azure Expanse perished in droves. The Queen, already weakened by centuries of war, fought back with the last of her strength.
With one final arrow, she slew the Infernal Tyrant, and vanished into nothingness.
But her companion, driven mad with grief, became a beast of calamity. It unleashed a toxic flood, drowning every last human within a thousand miles.
Just as terror reached its peak, the floodwaters mysteriously receded.
From that day on, no one dared set foot in the ruined lands. Millennia passed. The world changed. And now, deep beneath the earth, Ethan stood within those very ruins.
The Infernal Core before him? The last remnant of the Tyrant’s destruction.
And that beautiful bow? The final legacy of the Winter Queen.
In his past life, the game’s lore had described this place with a single, haunting line:
“Though she perished, the Winter Queen could not bear to let her companion wreak havoc upon the world. With the last of her strength, she sealed it beneath the earth, using the power of Frostbound Reverie.”
The Infernal Core contained boundless fire toxicity.
While it partially weakened the freezing seal, it also neutralized the poison in the water, creating a bizarre, self-sustaining cycle.
Two divine artifacts, neither interfering with the other, yet together providing an endless water source.
At his current level, Ethan had no way of claiming either. Getting too close to either relic would result in instant, devastating death.
But he already had a plan.
Transform: Night Owl Form.
Wingbeat!
When used on the ground, Wingbeat allowed him to hover in place or adjust his movement midair.
Perfect for avoiding the lethal frost coating the floor.
Skill Activation: Tempest!
[Tempest] – Summon wind energy, creating a violent gust that repels enemies within a 5-meter radius, knocking them back 1-10 meters and stunning them for 6 seconds. Usable in any form except human. Cooldown: 30 seconds.
A Druid ability, automatically unlocked at level 20.
Ethan aimed at the Infernal Core and unleashed Tempest.
The crimson orb trembled, then nudged ever so slightly inward.
His heart pounded. It moved!
Keeping his hovering stance, he waited for the cooldown to reset, then cast Tempest again.
Little by little, the Infernal Core drifted closer to Frostbound Reverie.
As they neared, their opposing energies clashed, one red, one white, forming a glowing barrier where heat and frost collided.
Steam erupted, quickly filling the entire chamber with a dense fog.
Ethan kept at it, maintaining his aerial maneuvering while carefully adjusting the relics’ positions.
Finally, the gap between them shrank to just 1.5 meters.
He flapped his wings, cautiously approaching the narrow space between them.
The residual heat from the Infernal Core counterbalanced the frost from Frostbound Reverie.
For the first time, the temperature was stable.
Safe enough for him to move freely.
But Ethan didn’t rush to grab them.
Claiming both at once was risky. If he miscalculated—if he touched either artifact at the wrong moment, he’d be obliterated on the spot.
So he tested the waters.
Edging closer to the Infernal Core, he monitored his health. The initial contact inflicted minimal damage, but the closer he got, the worse it became, eventually hitting 800+ HP per tick when he was just 2 meters away.
He gulped down a Medium grade Instant Recovery Potion and a Medium grade Gradual Regen Potion, restoring his HP to full.
Then he repeated the process with Frostbound Reverie.
At 2 meters away, the damage spiked to 1,200+ HP per tick. Another potion. Another retreat.
Two test runs. Over 30 gold burned in potions alone.
But being overprepared was a habit from his past life, one that had saved him more times than he could count.
At this point, he only had one High-Grade Instant Recovery Potion and two Medium Gradual Regen Potions left.
His current max HP? 2,200.
But in Bear Form?
That shot up to 5,500.
More importantly, he’d heard a rumor in his past life.
During transformation, there was a 0.1-second invulnerability window.
Was it true?
He had no idea.
But there was no time for doubt.
Positioning himself at the neutral zone between the relics, Ethan took a deep breath.
The moment he grabbed them, he’d take a direct hit. No way around it.
But with 5,500 HP and a 2.5-meter reach, he just needed to touch them both.
‘If I die but manage to store them in my inventory—it’s worth it.’
Items in his bag wouldn’t drop on death.
At worst, he’d lose the Wishbound Relic, but he could always come back and retrieve it.
Besides, the water’s toxicity? He could deal with that.
He had plenty of antidotes.
And right now, he had money to burn.
Ethan clenched his jaw. No turning back now.
