Chapter 65: Unbreakable? Think Again
Everyone had lost sight of Ethan. In his panther form, he moved like a black phantom, vanishing without a trace.
The priests in the area cast Radiant Illumination, bathing the platform and its surroundings in light with no blind spots.
Still, there was no sign of him. Where was he?
“Knights with True Sight skills, find him for me!” Marcus Skeiner bellowed from the platform.
Among the 400 players present, only three knights possessed the skill. At Marcus’ command, their eyes glimmered with a golden glow, scanning the area.
They looked around, their gazes sharp and focused, but even with True Sight, Ethan remained undetected. Normally, such a skill should reveal someone in stealth, or at least leave a trace.
Unless Ethan’s stealth level vastly exceeded their detection range.
While the knights were focused on the front, one of them suddenly turned his head. A faint shadow, like a wisp of lightning, darted through the air.
“There he is!” the knight shouted.
Everyone spun around. This time, Ethan, caught in the golden light of True Sight, appeared as a blurred, almost transparent figure.
How was he so fast? A hundred meters in just six or seven seconds? That kind of speed was unheard of.
In Ethereal, the standard running speed was 9 meters per second, meaning 100 meters should take at least 12 seconds, especially since stealth reduced movement speed by 50%. How was Ethan this quick?
But Ethan’s panther form gave him a 140% movement speed boost, and even in stealth, he retained 90% of that speed.
Additionally, as someone who had spent his past life constantly running for survival, Ethan’s inventory was always stocked with essential escape tools.
He had three Speed Scrolls, worth ten gold coins each, which granted a 60% movement speed boost. He even carried two Size Reduction Scrolls, a rarely used item that halved his size for better mobility.
In Ethereal, once player-run shops opened, the system stopped selling certain items. Essentials like these scrolls would either disappear or be sold at exorbitant prices by players. Back then, a scroll that cost ten gold coins early on could fetch thousands, or even tens of thousands of gold later, depending on demand and material costs.
If the system hadn’t imposed purchase limits, Ethan might’ve stockpiled scrolls just to resell them at a higher price later.
As Marcus’ squad moved sluggishly to execute their anti-stealth strategy, Ethan activated a Speed Scroll. Before their skills could even begin to take effect, Ethan had already slipped behind their formation with ease.
Though the priests’ Radiant Illumination eventually covered every angle, their casting was staggered, leaving brief gaps. Ethan weaved through them with quick leaps and rolls, reaching the platform below.
By the time the knights activated True Sight, Ethan was already standing on the platform.
Now, only a few scantily-clad women stood between Ethan and Marcus.
In black panther form, he grinned, his sharp teeth gleaming like polished ivory under the light, exuding a predatory, bloodthirsty aura.
The women screamed in unison, scrambling down from the platform in terror.
Players from Marcus’ guild surged forward to defend their leader, but collided with the fleeing women. Chaos erupted as both groups tangled together, tumbling to the ground.
In the confusion, some players “accidentally” tripped, falling onto the women and seizing the opportunity to grope them, sparking another round of panicked shrieks.
Meanwhile, Marcus raised his shield, unfazed by the chaos below. “The so-called Newbie King,’ huh? I’ve heard your attack power’s impressive. Let’s see if you can break through my defense!”
Ethan didn’t bother responding. Without a word, he vanished into stealth again.
In the split second it took Marcus to brace his shield, Ethan reappeared behind him.
Rake!

Marcus froze, stunned, and a Bleed effect began draining his health. Ethan prepared to follow up with Shred.
But Marcus twitched, recovering slightly, and spun around with a sudden shield bash.
‘So, he has a crowd-control removal skill,’ Ethan thought.
Not that it was surprising. As the leader of Blade Syndicate, Marcus Skeiner would obviously have access to the best resources. Without them, he’d never have earned the title of Harmony City’s top guild master.
Ethan shifted into bear form, gaining 10 Rage upon transformation.
He cast Maul! A skill requiring 10 Rage points.
The massive bear reared up, slamming one paw against Marcus’ shield with explosive force.
BAM!
Marcus stumbled back three steps. Meanwhile, Ethan’s bear form barely wavered.
-31, -44!
In just one second of combat, Marcus had only taken bleed damage from Ethan’s Rake and the True Damage effect on Ethan’s weapon.
Seeing the damage numbers, Ethan thought grimly, His defense is insanely high. Without my Divine Ability [Focus], I might not have been able to break through at all.
The moment Marcus took his first step back, Ethan shifted into owl form. Without missing a beat, he unleashed two debuff spells in quick succession: Sunburn and Moonfire.
-31, -44!
-1, -44!
-1, -44!
Three sets of damage numbers hovered over Marcus’ head.
As Marcus took his third step back, Ethan shifted back into panther form, darting to his side.
Shred!
Marcus steadied himself and swung his shield into position just in time.
Clang! The sound of metal rang out as the shield successfully blocked Ethan’s attack.
-1, -44!
The shield reduced incoming damage by 30%, leaving Ethan frustrated. His attack power was close to 600, and with Shred and his Divine Talent bonuses, his skill damage was tripled, amounting to roughly 1,800. Yet Marcus’ shield reduced it to nearly nothing, forcing a measly one-point deduction alongside bleed damage.
‘This guy’s defense is ridiculous. He’s the perfect example of a tank, a shield warrior with insane gear. Looks like I need an upgrade soon,’ Ethan thought.
This was the first time in this life that he hadn’t instantly taken down an opponent.
Even as he analyzed the situation, Ethan brushed past Marcus, only to whip around mid-motion. His tail lashed out, striking Marcus’ ankle.
It wasn’t a skill, just a move Ethan improvised, aided by his unique God of Slaughter title.
The tail swipe threw Marcus off balance, and before he could recover, Ethan’s panther form darted behind him. With a powerful kick from his hind legs, Ethan sent Marcus’ staggering body into the air.
Ethan flipped back, his claws gleaming.
Shred!
His claws raked down Marcus’ back, a perfect, clean hit. There was no shield to block, no parry, no evasion.
-546, -44!
Two massive damage numbers appeared above Marcus, followed by ongoing debuff effects and the consistent drain from True Damage.
Marcus’ health bar dropped by one-sixth in an instant.
The realization hit Ethan like a freight train: This guy has close to 4,000 HP!
“Priests, heal me!” Marcus roared into the guild’s command channel.
“Boss, you’re on the platform, and it’s blocking our line of sight. We can’t reach you,” a priest replied. At that moment, the priest’s hands weren’t on his staff, they were busy wandering over one of the fallen women.
“Damn it! What are you all doing down there? Get up here and kill him already!” Marcus bellowed in frustration. Ethan’s 500+ damage burst, coupled with his relentless maneuvers, had pushed him to the brink.
“Uh…” The Blade Syndicate players, who were still busy groping and molesting the women below, finally seemed to realise that their leader was in serious trouble.
