Chapter 86: A Surprise Wedding
As soon as Ethan heard Lyla’s forbidden spell ability, an idea struck him.
“Lyla, let’s test out that spell of yours!” he said, his tone filled with excitement.
“Sure! Where are we going?”
“Come on, I’ll take you there! But we’ll need a healer too, otherwise, you won’t be able to finish charging it.”
“Alright! I’ll listen to you!” Lyla chirped sweetly, clinging to Ethan’s arm and nuzzling against him.
Ethan let out a helpless chuckle. This girl was like a completely different person in-game compared to real life. While she was pretty obedient offline, she was a total menace in-game. She knew that no matter what she did here, he couldn’t do anything about it.
Thinking back to his previous life, the things they had done, in taverns, out in the wild, even inside dungeons… his mind drifted.
And suddenly, heat surged through him, and a growing bulge tented his pants.
‘Damn it.’
Right now, he really wanted to drag her to somewhere private to unleash the pent-up tension he felt within.
Unfortunately, the game had strict rules. Any kind of intimate interaction required mutual consent, otherwise, the system would immediately kill you on the spot.
Pushing aside those thoughts, Ethan opened his friend list and sent a message.
“Slashblade, you busy?”
“Just got back to town with Ryan and Williams for supplies,” Slashblade replied.
“Meet me at the central teleportation hub. We’re forming a party.”
“We’re already here!”
Just as Ethan read the message, he spotted four figures approaching.
“What a coincidence,” he muttered, recognizing them immediately—Slashblade, Skyblade, SeraphWarrior, and Meatball.
He hadn’t expected them to already be grouped together. With himself and Lyla, that made a full party.
“Coincidence? You two stand out like a sore thumb, one dressed head-to-toe in black, the other drop-dead gorgeous. Hard not to notice!” Slashblade joked.
It had been a few days since they last met, and Ethan noticed something different about him. Slashblade, usually reserved and brooding, seemed… talkative.
Ethan raised a brow. “Slash, you’ve changed.”
“Hah! Told you he’d notice!” Skyblade laughed, slapping SeraphWarrior on the back. “Alright, pay up. You too, Meatball, no backing out!”
Ethan was thoroughly confused. “What’s going on?”
Skyblade grinned. “Boss, Slashblade’s getting married!”
“What? No way!” Lyla gasped, rushing forward. “Congrats, Slashblade!”
Ethan, however, had a very different reaction. “Wait… married? Second marriage?” he blurted out without thinking.
The group fell silent for a split second.
SeraphWarrior immediately covered his face, his shaking shoulders betraying his suppressed laughter.

Meatball struggled to keep a straight face, his expression turning an unnatural shade of purple.
Slashblade, on the other hand, looked utterly mortified, glaring at Ethan with a mix of frustration and disbelief.
Realizing his blunder, Ethan quickly tried to recover. “Uh… I just thought you were already married, that’s all.”
That only made things worse.
Skyblade doubled over laughing. “I knew it! I knew Boss would assume Slash was divorced! Alright, pay up, everyone!” He even gave Slashblade a shove, demanding his winnings.
Slashblade looked like he was seriously considering murder.
Still grinning, Skyblade turned back to Ethan. “Boss, you don’t know the half of it. Slashblade dedicated his whole life to serving the country. Got injured in the line of duty, retired, and spent years taking care of his fallen comrades’ families—widows, orphans, the works. Never had time for his own life.
“But there was this one girl, met him when she was sixteen. Waited over ten years for him. Now she’s almost thirty, and the guy finally gave in. Talk about a long game!”
Ethan glanced at Slashblade, his respect for the man deepening.
After hearing about Slashblade’s past, he couldn’t help but reflect on his own situation with Lyla. His eyes shifted toward her, a flicker of unspoken emotion passing through his gaze.
Lyla met his eyes and, as if sensing his thoughts, smiled softly. Without a word, she squeezed his hand just a little tighter.
“Oh ho! Something’s going on here!” Skyblade’s sharp eyes caught the exchange immediately.
“Nothing’s going on,” Ethan deflected, quickly shifting the focus. “Let’s talk about Slash instead. When’s the big day?”
“The day after tomorrow,” Slashblade answered, looking a little embarrassed.
“That soon?” Ethan was taken aback.
“Boss, First lady, you guys coming?” Skyblade asked with a grin.
Ethan actually wanted to go, but instead of answering right away, he turned to Lyla to see what she thought.
“First lady, you should come! Look at Meatball, we’ve barely known him for a few days, and even he’s coming,” Skyblade added, clearly playing the persuasion game.
“Where’s the wedding? If it’s too far, we might have to leave early in the morning,” Lyla pointed out. She had already figured out that Ethan wanted to go.
“No need to worry! Even if it’s far, you can just take a flight!”
“I get air sick,” Lyla admitted with a sheepish look.
“I’ll send you the address in a bit,” Slashblade said.
He really wanted Ethan to be there. If it weren’t for Ethan, he wouldn’t have had the courage to pursue this relationship at all.
Slashblade had only joined Ethereal on a whim, never expecting to run into Ethan. But under his leadership, their group had climbed higher than they ever imagined.
And on top of that, Ethan paid his three core members a generous salary, 10 silver coins per day.
That translated to a daily wage of about $1,800. Before retiring from the military, Slashblade had only earned around $8,000 a month.
Now, he kept just $1,000 for himself and sent the rest to the families of his fallen comrades. It wasn’t much, but it was enough for them to live a simple but stable life in the countryside.
He never really thought about himself, never allowed himself to.
Slashblade wasn’t the expressive type, but he carried a deep gratitude toward Ethan. He never spoke about it, but he felt it every time they met.
And ever since he had called Ethan “Boss” for the first time, his loyalty had already been sealed.
Hearing that Ethan and Lyla were coming, Slashblade couldn’t help but feel a wave of happiness. Without delay, he sent them the address.
Ethan took a quick look. “Not bad, it’s not too far. Should take about six hours by car.”
“Boss, where are you guys right now?” Skyblade asked.
“Ember City,” Ethan replied.
“Holy—That’s not far at all! Shouldn’t take more than four or five hours. What, did you just get your license? Six hours—what are you driving, a tractor?” Skyblade teased.
Ethan shot him a look. “Our car probably can’t take the highway. We’ll have to use the backroads.”
“What kind of car?”
“A Predator Beast X,” Ethan said casually.
There was a brief moment of silence.
Even SeraphWarrior, who had been quiet the whole time, finally spoke up in shock. “Wait… you’re kidding, right?”
“There’s no way…”
