Chapter 87: Into the Iron Mountains
Ethan’s joke was getting out of hand. A Predator Beast X? That car was something out of a sci-fi fantasy.
Forget about highways, even if he took it on regular roads, a convoy of armed SWAT units would probably surround him within minutes.
Skyblade watched Ethan’s cryptic smile and shook his head. ‘Yeah, right. He’s totally messing with us.’
“Alright, let’s squad up. I’ll take you guys to level up,” Ethan said, sending out party invites.
With six members, the team was full.
Once they were all in, Ethan noticed that the four of them had already hit level 20. Not exactly record-breaking, but still within the top tier of players.
“Since you guys are level 20 now, you should start upgrading your gear. You can probably handle the Howling Caverns dungeon,” Ethan suggested.
“Yeah, but we don’t have enough guild members at level 20 to form a full raid team yet. Boss, are you running it with us?” Skyblade asked.
Ethan thought for a moment. Howling Caverns… That dungeon drops a three-piece druid gear set. It wouldn’t hurt to grab some upgrades, and honestly, his current equipment could use an overhaul.
“Yeah, call me when you’re forming the party. Let’s also get Moonbeam to level 20 so she can join. There’s a rare archer treasure that drops there, it boosts attack speed.”
“First lady’s only level 15? By the time she hits 20, we’ll probably have already cleared the dungeon. But we can power-level her after,” Skyblade said.
“Excuse me, are you looking down on me?” Lyla snapped.
“Uh… No way!” Skyblade forced a grin, clearly sensing danger.
With their team set, Ethan led the group to the teleportation hub. He activated the squad teleport function, instantly transporting everyone to Blazestar Outpost in the Scorched Plains.
“Where are we?” Lyla asked, glancing around.
“This is the Scorched Plains, a level 30 zone,” Ethan replied.
“We’re grinding on level 30 mobs? That’s fifteen levels higher than me,” Lyla said, sounding doubtful.
“Don’t worry, First lady Back in the Starter Zone, Boss had us farming over-leveled mobs all the time. The EXP was insane,” Skyblade reassured her.
“This time, I’m not carrying you guys,” Ethan smirked. “Moonbeam’s the key here. And we’re not hunting level 30 mobs.”
He left them hanging, turning toward the north.
Beyond the outpost, a massive mountain range loomed in the distance, its peaks piercing the clouds.
“That’s our real destination,” Ethan said, pointing at it.
They were headed for the Iron Mountains.
Blazestar Outpost was the closest teleportation hub to their goal. The path ahead was mostly safe, but since their levels were still on the low side, Lyla managed to attract an enemy, a Flame Draconian.
A level 30 elite.
Good thing they had a full party, or even Ethan would’ve struggled to take this thing down alone.

For Skyblade, a shield tank with no fire resistance gear, this type of magic-based enemy was a nightmare. Physical armor meant nothing against it, every hit would deal full damage.
As soon as Lyla aggroed the monster, Skyblade immediately switched to defensive stance. He charged forward, taunting the Draconian before slamming a fist into its chest, interrupting its Fireball cast.
The Draconian’s spell was interrupted, silencing it for five seconds. Unable to cast magic, it resorted to swinging its staff at Skyblade, landing two normal attacks.
Each hit dealt only 1 damage. It couldn’t even break through Skyblade’s defenses.
“Hah! Level 30 mobs aren’t all that tough. Can’t even scratch me!” Skyblade boasted.
Seeing that their tank could hold the line, the rest of the party relaxed and launched their attacks.
-1!
-1!
-1!
-658, -50!
-3,698!
Everyone paused as the Draconian’s health bar ticked down.
The first three weak hits were from Skyblade, SeraphWarrior, and Meatball, expected results given the level gap. But those last two numbers?
All eyes turned to Ethan.
“Uh… The 600-something was mine,” Ethan admitted. He was just as stunned as everyone else. But the 3,698? That was Moonbeam’s.
That damage was insane. She was hitting a monster 15 levels above her, and it still landed that hard?
“First lady, what the hell was that?!” Skyblade gawked at Lyla.
“This is my highest single-hit skill, Aimed Shot. It does 500% base damage but has a 4-second charge time and a 1-minute cooldown,” Lyla explained, just as shocked as the others. She suddenly realized how powerful the weapon Ethan had given her really was.
A 4-second charge time was brutal for an archer. Staying rooted that long in battle was practically asking for death.
But in their amazement, they had all overlooked one important fact—Lyla was only level 15. Against a level 30 monster, the system’s level suppression should have heavily reduced her damage.
So how was she hitting that hard?
“Skyblade, watch out!” Ethan shouted.
“Huh?” Skyblade blinked in confusion.
The five-second silence wore off.
While everyone had been busy marveling at Lyla’s attack, the Draconian had already completed casting its Fireball.
Boom!
The blast hit Skyblade directly.
-2,256!
Skyblade’s health bar instantly vanished, and he collapsed to the ground.
Being level 20, he was already at a 10-level disadvantage. Even in defensive stance, his max HP barely reached 2,200. The Fireball outright one-shot him.
‘Damn, I got careless.’
“Shifting, Bear Form! Taunt!” Ethan roared, instantly transforming and pulling aggro onto himself.
“Skyblade, corpse run!” he ordered.
“On it!” Skyblade responded in party chat.
Ethan cursed inwardly. ‘Damn it, I forgot this thing is pure magic-based.’
Earlier, when its spell got interrupted and it was forced to use normal attacks, it barely dealt any damage. That had lulled him into a false sense of security.
“Slashblade, keep me healed!” Ethan called out.
“Got it!” Slashblade replied.
“Anyone else have an interrupt? We need to stop its Inferno Blast. Ignore Fireball, it’s not worth wasting an interrupt on,” Ethan said.
“The only interrupt skill we have is Skyblade’s Punch,” SeraphWarrior informed him.
“Boss, can you tank this thing?” Skyblade asked while running back.
“Relax,” Slashblade cut in. “Boss is way more solid than you.”
“How?! He’s a druid! Even in Bear Form, his health is only about the same as mine. You’ve healed druid tanks before, you know they’re not that sturdy,” Skyblade argued.
Ethan smirked, his eyes locked on the Draconian. “You’ll see.”
