Chapter 95: A Simple Wedding
Lyla’s breath hitched as Ethan’s arms tightened around her waist. Her body tensed for a brief second before she exhaled, sinking against his warmth.
“Ethan…” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
His grip loosened just enough for her to turn around in his hold. Her face was still flushed, her lips slightly parted as if she wanted to say something but couldn’t quite find the words.
Ethan met her gaze, searching. There was something in her expression, hesitation, maybe even longing, but before he could figure it out, she suddenly pushed lightly against his chest.
“Breakfast,” she mumbled, looking away.
A small chuckle escaped him as he stepped back, letting her go. “Alright, alright. But first—”
He reached for the nightstand and picked up a bottle of hydrogen peroxide.
Lyla blinked, confused. “What are you—”
“You’ve been rubbing your ear a lot,” Ethan said, his tone soft but firm. “Let me clean it before it gets worse.”
She hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Fine… but be gentle.”
Ethan smirked. “I always am.”
As she sat on the edge of the bed, he reached out and grabbed a cotton swab and dipped it into the hydrogen peroxide solution.
“I’m going in. It might hurt a little at first,” Ethan said, watching Lyla’s delicate face.
Lyla closed her eyes at his words, clearly still a little nervous. “Okay, Ethan, I’m ready.”
Ethan carefully inserted the cotton swab into her ear, slowly and gently.
“Mmm…” Lyla let out a small whimper.
“Does it hurt?” Ethan asked, his voice full of concern.
Lyla frowned and opened her eyes, a hint of tears forming in them.
“A little… Take it out,” she pleaded.
He quickly pulled it out with a soft pop.
Ethan looked down at the cotton swab, now stained with a small trace of blood. “You’re bleeding a little. Should we see a doctor?”
He held up the swab so she could see.
Lyla studied it carefully before shaking her head. “I already went. The doctor said it’s just mild ear inflammation, probably from using earbuds too much. I just need to stop using them for a while.”
“Got it,” Ethan replied, tossing the swab into the trash. He flexed his wrist to shake off the stiffness, then picked up a clean cotton swab to check her other ear.
“No need, it’s only the one that’s itchy,” Lyla said quickly.
She stood up, the hem of her snug cotton nightdress shifting as she moved. The white fabric clung to her form, reaching just above her knees. Her skin was pale, almost translucent, her waist so slim it seemed as if a breeze could break it. She stepped lightly on the plush pink carpet, her bare feet delicate like a porcelain doll’s.
“Lyla…” Ethan swallowed hard. His gaze darkened as his thoughts wandered to the two things she had just hidden.
Lyla noticed the way he was looking at her, like a predator eyeing its prey.
His stare burned with an intensity that made her heart race.

For a brief moment, panic flickered across her face, but she quickly steadied herself. She bit her lip, took a deep breath, and stepped closer, pressing her body lightly against his chest, wrapping her arms around his waist.
“Ethan… I’ll always be yours. But you need to wait. I have things I need to take care of first. After that… anything you want.”
The softness against him sent a wave of heat through Ethan’s body.
‘So, she really wasn’t wearing anything underneath.’
Her words doused the fire in his chest, snapping him back to reality.
“Things to take care of? What things?” he asked.
His mind raced back to his past life. In reality, Lyla had never been with him. Instead, she had hidden her identity and stayed by his side in the game as Moonbeam.
Was it because, back then, she hadn’t been able to resolve things in her real life?
Was that why she had disappeared, only able to accompany him in the game?
Lost in thought, Ethan didn’t realize Lyla had already pulled away and changed the subject.
“Let’s eat! I’m starving,” she said, grabbing his hand and pulling him downstairs to the dining room.
“I’ll cook today. If I leave it to you, it’s either toast or fried eggs, with the wrong seasoning,” Ethan teased, ruffling her hair.
“Hmph! You were the first person to ever eat my cooking, and you’re already complaining? Fine! Breakfast is officially your responsibility from now on,” Lyla huffed, pretending to be angry.
Ethan couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight of her pouting like a little cub. Despite her feisty act, her body was soft and delicate, her angelic face making her look anything but threatening.
He smirked. “I’ll do it, I’ll do it. Just sit back and enjoy,” Ethan said, his throat suddenly dry.
His eyes flicked over her form, taking in every curve beneath the thin fabric.
Without thinking, he reached out, wrapping an arm around her waist. His hand accidentally landed right where his gaze had been seconds before.
And to his surprise, she didn’t resist.
Lyla’s face flushed as she shot Ethan a glare, but she didn’t pull away. Ethan just chuckled sheepishly, keeping an arm around her as he led her to the dining table.
She could tell exactly what he was thinking, it was written all over his face. It was funny, really.
Ethan never pushed too far, just sneaking in small moments here and there. Not that she minded. Half the time, she let him.
And every single time, he’d act like he just pulled off a huge achievement.
Lyla shook her head, amused.
Meanwhile, Ethan had already stepped into the open kitchen, getting to work.
Lyla sat there, zoning out for a moment, before her gaze drifted toward the table.
Her cheeks burned.
She suddenly remembered that day, right here, on this very table, when she had…
A shiver ran down her spine.
That was the first time she had ever felt something like that.
Her heart pounded as she peeked at Ethan, who was busy cooking.
She quickly patted her chest, relieved. Luckily, he hadn’t noticed the look on her face.
What the hell was she even thinking?
—
Over breakfast, the two of them discussed whether they should head out early to meet Slashblade and the others.
In the end, they decided to go today and help out before the wedding.
Before logging off last night, Skyblade had mentioned that if Moonbeam had time, she could stand in as a bridesmaid. Slashblade’s fiancée, Celia, had lost both her parents ten years ago.
She had no real family in his city, no friends besides a few coworkers.
Without a proper bridal party, the wedding would feel painfully empty.
Out of everyone they knew, there were barely any women to ask. Slashblade’s younger sister was an option, but she was… well, let’s just say she had twice the waist size of Skyblade.
And asking a groom’s sister to be the bridesmaid? That didn’t feel right either.
So in the end, Celia decided to skip the bridesmaids altogether and keep things simple.
But Slashblade felt guilty about that.
After all, Celia was thirty-nine now.
She had followed him for ten years, waiting for him for ten years.
She was only sixteen when she first met him.
Back then, she had looked him in the eye and said, “When I grow up, I’m going to marry you.”
Everyone thought she was just joking. Three years later, she reappeared, no longer a little girl, but a grown woman.
No one really knew why a teenager had fallen so hard for a man over ten years her senior.
Ethan and the others had no idea what kind of spell Slashblade had cast on her. One day, they were going to get him drunk and make him spill the truth.
Even after all these years, their relationship had never been clearly defined. They had never officially gotten together, never crossed any lines.
And yet, keeping the wedding this simple still didn’t sit right with Slashblade. He wouldn’t say it, but Skyblade saw right through him.
So before logging off, he had privately asked Ethan and Lyla to consider helping out.
Since it was Saturday and they had no classes, Ethan and Lyla decided to make the trip right away.
With their VR headsets packed, they hopped into the Predator Beast X and hit the highway.
Naturally, they turned heads the whole way there.
More than a few rich kids probably went home that day begging their parents for the same car. He could only imagine the stupefied looks they would earn as a result.
Ethan, though, was still a little nervous as they reached the highway entrance.
This car was ridiculously flashy.
Would they even be allowed on the freeway?
