Chapter 269: The Cult (39)
The jubilation was still ongoing when, suddenly, dark clouds descended upon the area and, a few seconds later, a strong wind pressure appeared, tossing light objects in different directions at a pretty chaotic speed. Dust and dirt gradually created a dirty fog that disrupted their sights.
The sudden change caused the jubilation to halt right away as everyone braced themselves for what was to come, some with bravery and others with cowardice, praying that whatever it was would not be the cause of their death.
The dark cloud kept getting denser by the seconds and the wind pressure grew even stronger, indicating the closeness of the approaching evil.
The spy knights had already drawn out their shiny swords, taking a battle-ready stance while their vigilant eyes darted across the place in search of the incoming foe. They could already feel a dense, sinister presence growing stronger with every second.
D’andre stood with a cold expression, ready to engage with whatsoever.
Amongst the newly released captives, some had already activated several defensive spells and were preparing themselves to engage with their offensive spells.
Inside the cave, they were unable to use their magic powers but outside, they could use them to the fullest. Even Rowan was able to equip his dagger from his inventory and activate all the relevant skills.
“This presence, the white devils, they are approaching!”
Eliman spoke with unease in his voice as he stood beside Rowan, his body releasing a subtle reddish energy.
‘If it’s any of those two, our only hope of survival would be D’andre and those knights,’ Rowan noted to himself. Riela was standing closely beside him and had already activated a water bubble spell which blocked the dirt and dust spraying across the place.
“Do not worry, Riela, stay behind me at all times and I will protect you.”
Rowan whispered into her eyes with a confident expression on his face, concealing the uncertainty drifting through his heart.
Few seconds passed…
The area surrounding the cave was already as dark as the middle of the night.
Suddenly, under their panicky and vigilant gazes, the dark clouds began swirling chaotically and, in the next second, a big dark portal appeared above them.
Before they could understand what was happening, countless dark-robed figures began to pour out of the portals in dozens per second. Their appearance made the captives shiver fearfully.
About twenty seconds later, an army of more than five hundred cultists had already stationed themselves in front of them.
The eyes of each cultist shone with sinister glows, emitting thick rage and killing intent that caused the entire group of captives to shiver in fright.
The sheer number of these cultists was more than five times their population. There were only about one hundred captives and most of them weren’t even as strong as the weakest member of the cultist army standing in front of them.
“This would be a deadly battle for sure.”
Rowan whispered after a long, tired sigh.
He had already observed the ranks of the cultists and noted that the lowest ranked one was already a Tier-2 mage at the early stage. A large percentage were in their mid and peak stages of the same rank while a few had already reached Tier-3.
Amongst the captives, the larger percentage were mid-stage and peak-stage Tier-2 mages as well, but the others were either Tier-1 or apprentice-ranked mages.
The cultists not only overshadowed them in numbers but also had a major advantage thanks to their cultivation ranks. Only D’andre, who was a Tier-6 Archmage, might be able to turn the table around.
That was what Rowan thought before two white-haired figures descended slowly from the portal. They were no other than the white-haired devils, AKA the dark blood brothers, AKA Alister and Xandros.
Their descent caused a stir in the mood of the battlefield.
The captives, who had been at their mercy since they were confined, let out dreadful gasps—not just because of the fear in their hearts but also because of the powerful, sinister aura being emitted from the dark blood brothers.
“Yup. We are going to lose for sure.”
Witnessing their arrival, Rowan immediately cancelled his former hopeful thoughts.
He dragged Riela closer to himself to protect her.

Eliman, standing beside him, gritted his teeth out of fear and frustration. He, too, could already tell that the battle would never be in their favour, and he began to sweat profusely.
Rowan, Eliman and Riela were standing at the back of the crowd.
At the forefront, D’andre stared down at the two brothers who possessed the same magic power as him, a satisfied smile on his face—finally, he would get to fight someone worth his strength, not those weak bastards who couldn’t even deflect his simplest fire barrage spell.
Standing beside him, Dragun could not share the same thoughts as he had experienced firsthand the cruelty and strength of the dark brothers.
Both of them combined were strong and scheming enough to take down a Tier-7 Archmage.
“This is bad.”
Dragun muttered while avoiding the sharp gaze of Xandros fixated on him.
“Do not worry, these two would not get past me.”
D’andre assured with a cheerful smile.
‘If only your opponent weren’t the dark blood brothers.’
The stare-down between both parties lasted for about ten seconds before Xandros finally spoke, his voice laden with hatred and anger.
“You with long white hair, you are an outstanding mage. It is rare for someone this young to become an archmage without engaging in dark magics. You would be a great addition to the cult, while you are with us, we would help you become a Tier-7 archmage in less than two years and, after our plan has succeeded, you would receive enough mana to become a Tier-8 Super mage. What do you say?”
When Xandros opened his mouth, Dragun expected him to be brazen and rageful as usual, but he was shocked to actually hear him speak with a plan in his head. However, he could tell that his speech was either influenced by Alister or one of the cult’s higher-ups.
Dragun turned to D’andre.
‘This proposal is too enticing, being able to reach Tier 7 in less than two years is almost impossible and reaching Tier 8 is nothing but a dream every cultivator wishes to achieve one day. Even the strongest rulers of the cult are unable to attain that rank. I fear, if I were in his place, I would accept without a single hesitation. If he accepts, our hopes of leaving this place would be tarnished.’
Dragun feared that D’andre would accept, but his reply changed his mind.
“Shove your proposal into your black asses.”
