Magus Supremacy - Chapter 54
Chapter 54: The Jig is up Chapter 54: The Jig is up Chapter 54 As soon as Grey agreed, Cedric swiftly put plans into motion.
The arrangements were meticulously organized according to Grey’s specifications.
Once everything was in place, Grey, Charlotte, and the two 2-star mages climbed into a carriage, dressed as common merchants.
This carriage, although less opulent than the one used by the town lord, still bore the town’s crest-a black horse with a shield beneath it.
Everyone on the mission wore simple merchant garb, designed to make them appear harmless and inconspicuous-nothing about them should betray their true identity as mages.
With the preparations complete, they set off towards the neighboring town that had been scheming to take over Cedric’s.
The carriage jolted forward, its pace quick and steady, as they sped out of the town and into the unknown.
Inside, the atmosphere was quiet.
Grey appreciated the silence, using the time to continue cultivating.
His calm demeanor and closed eyes gave the illusion that he was sleeping.
“Is he sleeping?” one of the 2-star mages muttered.
“How useless,” the other mage scoffed.
Grey’s eyes remained shut as he muttered, his voice laced with annoyance.
“You know, your loud voices are disturbing me.” “And so what if it does?
What are you going to do about it?” one of the mages retorted, the challenge clear in his tone.
Grey sighed, unwilling to waste energy on a meaningless fight.
“I’m in no mood to pick a fight with weaklings.” “Who are you calling a weakling, kid?” The second mage, a man in his mid-twenties, sneered.
“We’re 2-star mages-shouldn’t that give you an idea of our strength?” “Tch.
If only you knew,” Grey muttered under his breath, returning to his cultivation, paying no attention to the men’s incessant ranting.
“Guys, focus,” Charlotte interjected firmly, her voice cutting through the tension.
The men fell silent at once, chastened by her authority.
“Thank you.
Since we’ll be working together, it would be best to know each other’s abilities.
I’ll go first-I’m a water mage.” “Wind magic,” said the mage in his mid-twenties.
“Ice magic,” the other mage chimed in.
‘Tch.
Weaklings,’ Grey thought inwardly, his expression unreadable.
“Won’t you say yours?” Charlotte prompted, turning her gaze to him.
“Is there a need?” Grey asked, opening one eye to glance at her.
“I thought everyone knew about me and my powers, which is why your dad hired me.” “For some of us, the rumors might be exaggerated,” the wind mage said with a smirk.

“Let it be.
I don’t need to prove anything to you.
I’m here to complete the mission and collect my reward,” Grey said, his voice clipped.
“You know, for your plan to work, we need to understand your capabilities,” the ice mage insisted.
“You want to know?” Grey opened his other eye, his gaze sharpening.
“Fine.
For your information, I could easily kick all of your butts without breaking a sweat.” “How dare you!” The ice mage snapped, a wave of cold emanating from him as the temperature in the carriage dropped noticeably.
Grey simply smirked, unfazed.
“I’ll put you in your place now!” “Bring it on,” Grey grinned, his posture relaxed despite the threat.
Just as the ice mage was about to make a move, the carriage came to an abrupt stop.
“Why the sudden stop?” Charlotte exclaimed, turning to the driver.
“Ma’am, we’ve arrived,” the driver announced.
“Great!
Let’s get to work then,” Grey said, standing up with a smile that seemed to mock the ice mage.
He stepped out of the carriage first, then turned and grinned at the others.
They found themselves in front of a massive gate flanked by towering spiral structures, with guards on top, their hands poised ready for action.
Grey lifted his hands above his head in a gesture of surrender, signaling peace.
The others followed suit.
“We come in peace!” Charlotte called out.
A guard descended from the tower, his movements deliberate and cautious.
“State your business,” he demanded, his voice steady.
“We need to see the town’s lord.
We’re here with his negotiation,” Grey said coolly.
“From where?” The guard asked, eyeing them suspiciously.
“We’re from Kiten Town,” Charlotte replied smoothly.
The guard’s eyes widened slightly.
‘Kiten Town?
The town from which we captured a citizen?’ He thought to himself.
“Ah, I see,” he murmured before signaling to the others to open the gate.
“C’mon, I’ll lead you to him,” the guard said, beckoning them inside.
The town before them was strikingly similar to their own, save for a few subtle differences in color schemes and architectural details.
It wasn’t long before they were inside, following the guard through winding streets to a larger-than-life mansion-much grander than Cedric’s.
As they entered, they were escorted through a spacious courtyard, but they didn’t stop there.
The guard led them up a winding staircase, and Grey’s mind raced.
I just hope this works.
They arrived at a grand hall-massive and impressive enough to fit two hundred people comfortably.
At the far end of the hall sat a large, imposing throne.
A bulky man with a twisted smile lounged on the seat, surrounded by around fifty men, all clearly mages, based on the air of power that surrounded them.
“Welcome!
I hope your lord sent you with what I want?” The man said, his voice dripping with smugness.
“Sure he did!” Grey smiled in response, his tone perfectly cordial.
“But before that, we need to see if your ‘bargaining chip’ is in good health.” “He’s fine.
I wouldn’t damage my leverage,” the town lord responded with a grin, his eyes gleaming maliciously.
“Now, let me have what I want.” “No.
I need to see my…
the town lord’s son,” Charlotte said, her voice strained.
Grey shot her a sharp glare, but she caught his eye and gave a slight, apologetic shrug.
“Fine!
Bring that brat here!” The town lord shouted, his tone darkening.
Grey’s senses were on high alert.
Something’s wrong here…
‘why are there so many mages in the room?
And this lord, he feels more powerful than Cedric…’ The door opened, and a young man walked in, flanked by an older man.
The youth had striking blue hair and an intense gaze.
As soon as his eyes fell on Charlotte, his expression faltered.
“Sister?!
Charlotte, is that really you?” the young man called out, disbelief and relief in his voice.
“Max, you fool.” Charlotte mumbled beneath her breath at her brother’s slip up.
The town lord blinked, confusion etched across his face.
“Sister?
Aren’t they merchants?” Max’s smile widened.
“Sister, did dad send you here to rescue me?” The town lord’s gaze hardened, and a cruel laugh escaped him.
“This is my lucky day, indeed.
All of you!
Take that woman, and kill anyone who gets in your way!” Grey’s expression turned ice cold as thirty mages rushed toward them.
He turned to Charlotte, his voice low and dangerous.
“You didn’t tell me your brother was an idiot.” “I guess we missed that detail,” Charlotte said nervously, her smile tight with tension.
“I guess the jig is up,” Grey sighed, his smile turning into something far more dangerous as he surveyed the room filled with enemies.
