Chapter 1000: Arrived At The Capital ( 2 )
Recalling the time he heard about his third brother, Li Lingyun sighed and said, “At that time, everyone, including himself, thought he would become disabled. Fortunately, he was blessed. Not only did his wife not abandon him, he also made a full recovery.”
When everyone heard this, they were taken aback, especially Pan Meijia. She knew that her boyfriend had only returned to the Li family recently, so how could he know so well about what happened to his third brother before?
Before she could think more about this matter, she heard Xiao Si ask, “Brother Li, if your brother has fully recovered, why doesn’t he return to the army?”
Li Lingyun thought for a moment and said, “I heard that he has accepted his pension and retired completely from the army. So, if he wants to join the army again, he might have to start from the lowest rank.”
As soon as he finished, Pan Meijia added, “I think the reason your third brother doesn’t want to go back to the army is because of his wife. If he returns to the army, he won’t be able to live with her and can only see her once a year.”
“With his personality, would he leave his wife to pursue his career?” she asked, glancing at her boyfriend.
When Li Lingyun heard this, he laughed and said, “It seems that Jia Er knows my third brother very well.”
Pan Meijia rolled her eyes at her boyfriend’s words and said, “It’s not that I know him well. It’s that everyone knows how clingy he is towards his wife. Did you know that he even glared at me because he saw me feeding Jueyu when we prepared Sister Liu Hua’s wedding banquet?”
“I’m a woman, and I have you. Yet, your third brother still feels jealous. With this kind of jealousy, it’s impossible for him to feel at ease leaving his beautiful wife at home alone,” she added with a snort.
Li Lingyun was taken aback when he heard this and asked, “Is this true? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Why should I tell you?” Pan Meijia replied, her brow furrowed with doubt.
“Of course, because I’m your fiancé and he is my third brother. If you tell me, I will scold him so he won’t dare glare at you again. You are his second sister-in-law,” Li Lingyun said, sounding righteous.
The moment Pan Meijia heard this, she narrowed her eyes at her boyfriend and asked, “Is it only because of that?”
Li Lingyun looked at her innocently and asked, “Are there other reasons?”
They locked eyes for a moment before Pan Meijia said, “I thought you wanted to use this to make fun of him.”
As soon as she said that, Li Lingyun nearly choked on his saliva. He looked at his girlfriend and thought, ‘I never expected my silly rabbit to know me so well. I should be more careful, or my image as a mature, dependable man will be ruined.’
Unaware of her boyfriend’s internal thoughts, Pan Meijia took a book from her bag and started reading. This book was given to her by Lu Jueyu on the day of her wedding, and she had been studying it since then.
Even after spending several months reading this book, she could only understand half of the content. If she had free time, she planned to ask her friend for help.
Although everyone said her friend was uneducated, she was sure her friend was much smarter and more knowledgeable than she was. So, she never felt embarrassed about asking for guidance.
After another six hours, they finally heard the train horn and looked out the window. Although they couldn’t see the train station yet, the vegetation was sparser, and several buildings were visible in the distance.
Seeing this, Li Lingyun put Pan Meijia’s book back in her bag and said, “Brother Xiao Si, Brother Xiao Liu, we will take our leave first. If there’s a chance, let’s meet again.”
Pan Meijia took out the dried fruits and mixed nuts she had and handed them to them, saying, “Take these snacks with you. You can eat them to cushion your stomach during your journey.”
Hearing this, both Xiao Si and Xiao Li stood up, gave them a salute, and said, “Thank you, Brother Li. Thank you, Sister-in-law.”
Li Lingyun nodded and said, “Have a safe journey.”
After both of them left, the Xiao brothers packed their bags and prepared to go. Since their barracks were in another city, they still needed to board another train for another 18 hours before reaching their destination.
In the next cabin, Lu Jueyu was rolling one of the big bags and putting it inside another. While packing, she stored some of the grains into her space, ensuring her husband wouldn’t be too tired carrying the bag later.
As for her small bag, it only contained two bamboo bottles and a thermos, so it wasn’t heavy at all.
When Li Lingyun and Pan Meijia arrived, they packed their belongings and waited in the cabin with the others. While they waited, Li Chenmo checked the situation outside and saw that the alley between the cabins was crowded.
Seeing this, he closed the door and said, “There are too many people outside. We should wait until they get off the train before we leave.”
Everyone nodded at his words, not wanting to join the crowd. It would be troublesome if they got injured or robbed in the pushing. Therefore, even after the train stopped and the carriage door opened, the Li family remained inside the cabin.

Fifteen minutes later, Li Chenmo opened the cabin door, saw that most of the passengers had left, and said, “We can go now.”
Hearing this, everyone grabbed their bags and walked out one by one. Leading the way was Li Chenmo, followed by his wife, his father, and his son.
Pan Meijia walked behind Dong Li, while Li Lingyun brought up the rear. This way, Li Chenmo, Li Lingyun, and Dong Li could protect the group in case something unexpected happened.
