Not long after, the bus arrived. Li Chenmo and his family got in the line and boarded the bus. Since it was during work hours, the bus was not as crowded as yesterday. After Lu Jueyu paid the fare, they found seats near the window.

This was Father Li and Dong Li’s first time in the capital, and both were in awe when they looked out the window.

Meanwhile, Li Chenmo noted how calm his second brother seemed. He looked as if he had been here before, which made him wonder about his brother’s life before returning to the Li family.

After thirty minutes, they reached the bus stop near the department store. They walked for another ten minutes before spotting the four-story building.

Looking at the building, Lu Jueyu was disappointed. She thought that the department store would be at least half the size of those in the modern era. Unfortunately, it was only about twice the size of the department store in their county town.

While she felt disappointed, Father Li and Dong Li were astonished as they stared at the building with wide eyes.

Seeing them like this, Li Chenmo smiled and reminded them, “Father, it’s hot outside, let’s go inside.”

Father Li came back to his senses and coughed to hide his embarrassment. He nodded and said, “Alright.”

The department store had good ventilation, and the temperature inside was much cooler. Once inside, Father Li sighed in relief and said, “It’s so comfortable here.”

When her father-in-law finished speaking, Lu Jueyu’s eyes widened in surprise as she asked, “Father, didn’t you smell that rotten stench? It was so bad that I thought someone had defecated here.”

When she said these words, she looked directly at the middle-aged woman and sneered.

The woman realized Lu Jueyu was talking about her and felt angry. She pointed her fingers at them and wanted to curse. But before she could do that, her daughter-in-law held her back, and said in a low voice, “Mother, this is a public place. Father just warned us yesterday to behave.”

As the daughter-in-law of the Xiao family, it was her first time being humiliated like this. What made her even more angry was that the other party dared to say that she had a bad mouth despite being a villager.

But despite her anger, she didn’t want to jeopardize her husband’s career prospects by making a scene in a public place during this critical period.

The incident with the middle-aged woman didn’t dampen their spirits or good mood at all. As they walked around the department store, Li Lingyun spotted a store selling watches and said, “Father, let’s check out the watches. I haven’t bought a watch for Jia Er yet.”

Hearing this, Father Li nodded and said, “Let’s go.”
