Dong Huang sighed again and said, “Ah Lin, I miss my parents and brother. I don’t know when they will come back.”

“Didn’t they say they would be back in half a month?” Feng Lin asked.

Dong Huang looked at her friend and said, “Ah Lin, look at my face and tummy. Don’t you notice anything different?”

Feng Lin studied her for a while before shaking his head and said, “No, you look the same as always, cute as usual.”

Dong Huang pouted and said, “Ah Lin, be more serious. I’m losing weight.”

She then pinched her own cheeks and said, “Look, my cheeks have less meat.”

“Isn’t that a good thing? Last time, you said you felt chubby and wanted to lose weight,” Feng Lin said feeling confused.

He didn’t understand why his friend was acting strange. One moment, she would complain about being chubby, and the next, she would be upset about losing weight.

While Feng Lin tried to figure out what was going on with his friend, Chen Jianmin laughed as he walked behind them.

Li Shu turned to him when she heard his laugh and said, “Jianmin, keep your laughter down. It would be bad if Xiao Huang heard you and gets sad. She was missing her family and already having a hard time.”

Chen Jianmin quickly suppressed his laughter and nodded, “You are right, Shushu. I shouldn’t laugh.”

However, his eyes still held a hint of amusement. Remembering his friend’s request to look after his sister while he was away in the capital, he walked over to Dong Huang.

Patting her little head, he asked, “Xiao Huang, Brother Jianmin plans to go to the mountain foothills to forage for mushrooms later. Do you want to come along?”

As soon as Dong Huang heard this, her eyes lit up, and she asked, “Brother Jianmin, can we pick some fruit too? My eldest aunt is having trouble eating. She keeps throwing up, so I want to gather some berries for her.”

Knowing there were several berry bushes near Dong Huang’s house, Chen Jianmin nodded and said, “Alright. After school, go back and inform your aunt and uncle first. I will come pick you up after lunch.”

As he finished talking, Li Jingqian chimed in, “Brother Jianmin, I want to go too!”

Several other children joined in as soon as they heard Li Jingqian’s request, eagerly asking to come along. Looking at the little radishes, Chen Jianmin felt a headache coming on.

He had only planned to bring Dong Huang to the mountain foothills to cheer her up. He shouldn’t have asked her in front of all the other children.

Not wanting to let the children down, he gritted his teeth and nodded, “Alright.”

The children were delighted when they heard his promise, chattering excitedly about the mushrooms they wanted to find.

Seeing Chen Jianmin’s helpless look, Li Shu chuckled and said, “It’s alright. I will go with you. With Jingxu and Fuyan helping us watch the children, there shouldn’t be any problems.”

Chen Jianmin hadn’t expected his little bride to join them. She had been busy learning from her grandfather lately, so it was rare for her to go out and play.

Therefore, the moment he heard her words, he agreed eagerly, “Alright. I saw some wild honey nearby a few days ago. We can gather some for Grandpa. Drinking more honey is good for his health.”

Li Shu smiled at his words and said, “Thank you.”

At noon, the children rushed back to their homes as soon as the school bell rang, marking the end of the school day.

In a third-grade classroom, Liu Fuyan was packing her school bag when a girl approached and asked, “Liu Fuyan, what’s your relationship with Teacher Lin?”

As she took a few steps, the girl suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm while shouting, “Liu Fuyan, who said you could leave?!”

Caught off guard, Liu Fuyan was pulled by her and fell to the ground. As she fell, her bag’s contents scattered on the ground. The other students sneered when they saw her sorry state but no one offered help.
