Once everyone was seated, Zhang Dongmei came over with a basket of scallion pancakes. Setting the basket on the table, she said with a smile, “Aunty made plenty of pancakes, so everyone, eat more.”

“Thank you, Aunty,” the children chorused happily.

After they finished the snacks, the children went to wash the mushrooms while Chen Jianmin processed the honeycombs with the help of Chen Jianguo. Both of them borrowed cheesecloth from Dong Huang to filter the beeswax.

Although they could eat the beeswax, Chen Jianmin planned to keep it for another use. Instead of making it into candles, he decided to keep a small amount at home in case he needed it to fix the furniture and sell the rest to Bajie.

Last time he brought beeswax to him, Bajie was willing to pay 500 yuan for a can of beeswax.

Chen Jianguo didn’t know his brother’s little thoughts, and was startled by his sudden laughter. He looked at his brother and asked with doubts, “Brother, what are you laughing at?”

“I plan to store it. Do you need some, Shushu?” Chen Jianmin asked with a smile.

“Well, my Grandpa said beeswax can be used as medicine. It relieves pain, lowers cholesterol, reduces swelling from inflammation, and helps with ulcers, diarrhea, and hiccups. If you don’t have another use for it, can I ask for some?” Li Shu asked.

Chen Jianmin finally understood why Bajie was willing to pay so much for beeswax. With so many medicinal uses, it was indeed valuable. If he had known about its medicinal uses, he would have given it to his little bride instead of selling it.

With this thought, he said generously, “Since Shushu wants it, you can take all of it.”

Li Shu was surprised by his words and asked, “Jianmin, you didn’t plan to keep any for yourself?”

“I don’t understand medicine, so it would go to waste if I keep it. It’s better for you to have it, and I can just come to you if I need some in the future,” Chen Jianmin explained with a smile.

Hearing this, Li Shu’s impression of Chen Jianmin improved. She had thought he was calculating in all things, but he was far more generous than she expected.

Li Shu smiled brightly at his words. She reached out to hold his hand and said, “Thank you, Jianmin. If you need anything in the future, just come find me. I will help as long as it’s in my capability.”

Chen Jianmin was thrilled to feel his little bride’s soft hand in his. He smiled wider and nodded, “Then, can I visit you more often? I also want to learn basic medicine in case I need it in the future.”

Squatting nearby, Liu Fuyan shook her head as she listened to their conversation. She knew Chen Jianmin wasn’t as kind-hearted as he appeared in front of Li Shu.

He could be as ruthless as Dong Li. But since she and her brother could be counted as Dong Li’s friends, he treated her well.

Knowing when to stay quiet, she focused on washing her mushrooms, letting whatever happened between Li Shu and Chen Jianmin remain their business.

When the sky darkened, the children returned home. Chen Jianmin escorted Li Shu back before he and his siblings returned to their house. Since he had given the beeswax to his little bride, he only carried two buckets of honey home.
