Chapter 1044: The Li Family’s Capability ( 1 )
Once they arrived at their home, Chen Jianguo took their younger siblings to wash up, while Chen Jianmin stored the honey in the kitchen. He placed the bucket in a basin with a little water inside to prevent ants from getting to the bucket.
When he was done, he washed up and returned to his room to study. They skipped dinner since Zhang Dongmei had given them scallion pancakes before they left.
Meanwhile, in the capital, a truck was parked outside Li Lingyun’s rented house.
At this moment, Lu Jueyu held a flashlight while standing beside the truck. There were no street lamps, and with clouds covering the moon, there was no moonlight to illuminate the road, leaving the road in pitch darkness.
In order to ensure that no one was injured from falling, Li Chenmo asked his wife to take out a flashlight and tell his brother that it was brought from the village.
With the help of the flashlight, the men easily saw the road as they carried sacks and bamboo baskets from the house to the truck. Without having to worry about tripping, they moved quickly, finishing the transfer in half an hour.
Due to his earlier doubts, Dong Li was tasked with boiling water to brew tea in the kitchen by Li Chenmo. Thus, he didn’t notice that the amount of ingredients being loaded onto the truck was more than what had originally been stored in the room.
Unbeknownst to everyone, Lu Jueyu had taken advantage of the time when everyone was resting in their room to bring out more ingredients from her space. Since Li Lingyun had already purchased some meat, she added extra pork to the jars, mixing it with the market-bought meat.
This way, the previously half-empty jars were now filled to the brim. She even drained the melted ice water and replaced it with fresh ice cubes. With the lids closed, no one would notice the change.
After they finished loading the ingredients, they covered the truck bed with a tarpaulin, securing it with ropes. This would not only prevent anything from falling out but also avoid drawing unwanted attention.
Before they left, Dong Li brought out several cups and a pot of tea for everyone. As he poured the tea, he said, “Uncles, please have some tea.”
Although the young men were only a few years older than him, they were friends of his second uncle, so Dong Li addressed them as ‘uncles’ in order not to mess up the generational hierarchy.
The young men looked at Dong Li in surprise, then glanced at Li Chenmo and Lu Jueyu with curiosity. Noticing their looks, Li Chenmo explained, “Dong Li is my adopted son.”
Hearing this, the group understood why the mother and son looked more like siblings. Since this was a personal matter, they drank the tea and stopped asking further questions.
After they finished their tea, they left the house. With Li Lingyun following them, Li Chenmo and his family returned to their room to sleep early, as they needed to arrive at the Pan family’s home before dawn to start preparing ingredients.
Although the wedding banquet was set for noon, they would need to cook many dishes, so they had to start early.
With the streets empty, it took Li Lingyun and his men only half an hour to reach the compound. Father Pan had already informed the community guards that his son-in-law would be delivering the ingredients tonight.
Since the guards had accepted Father Li’s gift during the engagement day and were invited to the wedding banquet by Father Pan, they didn’t want to create any trouble for the Pan or Li families. When they saw Li Lingyun delivering the ingredients, they allowed him to pass without inspecting the goods.
After parking the truck near the Pan family’s building, they saw Pan Chiyan approaching. The young men recognized him as the mayor’s secretary, and since their business was going against the law and governments, they felt uneasy seeing him smile at them.
While they felt uneasy, Li Lingyun was at ease as if he was not their big boss. The moment he saw his brother-in-law, he stepped down from the truck and greeted with a smile, “Brother-in-law, sorry to keep you waiting.”
“It’s alright, I haven’t been waiting long. Let’s get these ingredients stored first,” Pan Chiyan replied casually.
“Alright.”
Once both of them boarded the truck, Pan Chiyan gave directions while Li Lingyun looked around. In less than ten minutes, they reached a small building near a larger one situated in an open field.
Stepping out of the truck, Pan Chiyan explained, “This small building is the warehouse. The kitchen is behind it, and the larger building is the banquet hall. Since the hall can’t hold 40 tables, we will set up ten tables outside. We will also put up a temporary fabric roof so it won’t be too hot during the banquet.”
Li Lingyun nodded and said, “Brother-in-law, let’s move the ingredients first.”
Initially, Pan Chiyan had assumed the Li family hadn’t prepared much and had taken money from his savings to buy extra ingredients if needed.
However, as he saw them unloading the bamboo baskets and sacks, he was surprised. The grains alone totaled over 300 kilograms which was enough for 100 tables, let alone 40.
Feeling curious about the ingredient’s quality, he lifted the lid on one of the jars and was stunned to see fresh meat packed with ice cubes inside.
Fresh meat was difficult to keep in the hot weather, and although ice cubes were a solution, they were expensive and required industrial coupons to buy it. The Li family must have spent a fortune on just this meat.
After everything was moved, he noticed several sacks in the corner, placed separately from the stacked ones.

Walking over, his eyes widened in surprise when he saw fresh apples, apricots, peaches, and even watermelons in the sacks. He recognized the fruits because he had seen them before.
