Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife - Chapter 1047
Chapter 1047: Good In-laws
Amused by his wife’s smug expression, Li Chenmo chuckled and said, “I will clean the kitchen. You can start setting up the pots and woks.”
“Okay.”
Both of them divided the task and started working. While Li Chenmo swept the floor and tidied up, Lu Jueyu took out additional firewood and stacked it neatly in the corner. Next, she retrieved large woks, pots, and bamboo steamers from her space.
She also brought the water vat placed in the public kitchen into her space for cleaning. In less than a minute, she reappeared with the cleaned vat, which she filled with water from her space for cooking purposes.
Water for washing dishes could be fetched from the well nearby. So, she didn’t bother to prepare the water.
It took over an hour for them to clean and prepare the kitchen. Just as they lit the fire to boil water, they heard noise coming from the warehouse direction.
“Wife, wait here. I will check the situation out,” said Li Chenmo.
Knowing the compound was safe, Lu Jueyu nodded and continued organizing the seasonings and sauces on the kitchen table with ease.
When Li Chenmo reached the warehouse, he saw a lively group of people chatting. Most were middle-aged or young women, along with a few young and middle-aged men.
Walking over, he greeted them, “Hello, everyone.”
Startled by his voice, the group turned around. The young women blushed at the sight of his handsome face, while the middle-aged women’s eyes lit up.
Most of them thought the same thing, ‘What a catch! If this man is single, I can introduce him to my family!’
Used to such reactions, he maintained a neutral expression and introduced himself, “Hello, I’m Li Chenmo.”
Hearing this, Pan Chiyan stepped out of the warehouse and said, “Brother Chenmo, you are here so early.”
Recognizing a familiar face, Li Chenmo smiled and explained, “My wife and I thought the kitchen might need cleaning, so we came early. We also brought woks, pans, and steamers, just in case.”
Those women’s enthusiasm dimmed upon hearing he was married. Amused by their reaction, Pan Chiyan thought, ‘The Li family really has good genes. I wonder if my future nieces or nephews will inherit their father’s looks. It would be ideal if they could inherit the Li family’s intelligence too.’
Pan Chiyan didn’t look down on his family’s genetics, but with a foodie like Pan Meijia as his nephew and niece’s mother, he worried the children might be too easily swayed by food and get scammed, just like their mother.
“That’s thoughtful of your wife. We didn’t prepare those tools. It’s good that you come prepared,” Pan Chiyan said with a nod.
He then gestured to the group and said, “Brother Chenmo, these are our neighbors who have come to help. The men will set up the wedding hall, and the women will assist in the kitchen.”
Turning to the group, Li Chenmo said, “That’s wonderful. My wife was worried about handling everything on her own. With your help, she won’t overwork herself.”
Curious by his words, one middle-aged woman asked, “Nephew, I heard your wife is an excellent cook. Can she really manage all the cooking?”
Li Chenmo shook his head and replied, “Aunty must be joking. My wife was born with a weak body, so it’s impossible for her to manage all the cooking. She will need your help,”
Hearing this, the women exchanged meaningful glances. Helping with the cooking meant they might learn some of her recipes, which could prove valuable in the future.
When Pan Chiyan heard those words, he was taken aback. Although personal transactions were prohibited and they couldn’t sell food, most people were reluctant to share their recipes. After all, a good recipe could help them secure a job as a cook in a state-owned restaurant.
Even though a cook’s salary was similar to that of a factory worker, they could bring home ingredients that were almost spoiled. With a good relationship with their colleagues, they might even manage to take some extra meat back.
Thinking that Li Chenmo might not realize his wife was wasting valuable opportunities, Pan Chiyan wanted to remind him. However, with so many people around, he couldn’t say anything. They needed these people’s help, so it would be unwise to offend anyone now.
While Pan Chiyan was deliberating, Li Chenmo noticed his expression and smiled warmly. The Pan family was truly a good family. It’s a blessing for his second brother to have them as in-laws.
“Brother Chiyan, we should move the ingredients to the backyard first so they can start preparing,” Li Chenmo suggested.
Hearing this, everyone nodded eagerly, ready to begin. Since it was getting late, Pan Chiyan quickly assigned tasks to everyone.
Li Chenmo joined in to help move the ingredients to the backyard. When the others saw him easily carrying three sacks of grain, they were astonished.

One of the young women leaned closer to her friend and whispered, “I never thought a villager could be this handsome. And so strong! Look at his muscles. I wonder what it feels like to be hugged and carried by him.”
Before she could say more, a middle-aged woman slapped her arm and scolded, “What nonsense are you saying? Is that something an unmarried girl should be saying?”
Another woman joined in. “Nephew, you should better stop staring. When their family came to propose, his wife almost beat that Wang girl for staring at her husband. Don’t be fooled by her delicate looks—she is as fierce as a tigress. You wouldn’t want to provoke her.”
The young woman pouted when she heard this and muttered, “I’m just looking. Is there a need to be so petty?”
“Even if she is petty, what can you do about it? The man you’re staring at is her husband. If someone ogled your husband and thought about being hugged or carried by him, would you let it slide?” the middle-aged woman retorted with a frown.
“I—”
