The second aunt’s testimony erased any lingering doubts among the others. If they had hesitated earlier, they were now convinced that 50 yuan was worth it. One by one, they placed their orders with Mother Pan, some even offering to pay deposits to secure their shares.

While Mother Pan was happily writing down the order, Pan Meijia emerged from her room, fully dressed and prepared. She was greeted by the sight of her relatives eagerly discussing the cream and looked at her mother in confusion.

He expected his brother-in-law to be delighted by the offer. However, Li Lingyun declined which surprised him. According to Li Lingyun’s reason, such an arrangement might endanger Pan Chimu’s brothers in the army, as well as himself.

Instead of acting as his backers, Li Lingyun asked Pan Chimu to keep him informed of military news so he could act accordingly if any dangerous situations arose. That way, his safety would be increased and they wouldn’t be at as much risk.

In exchange for the information, Li Lingyun promised to provide Pan Chimu and his brothers with five kilograms of jerky each month. While it wasn’t much in terms of weight, jerky could serve as life-saving food during emergencies.

Considering that producing five kilograms of jerky required almost double that amount of raw meat, not to mention the meat jerky made by him taste so delicious, Pan Chimu agreed immediately. To formalize their agreement and avoid future disputes, they both signed a written contract, keeping a copy each.

Because of the secret and partnership, Pan Chimu looked at Li Lingyun and felt that he was more pleasing to the eye.

As the two headed to the public kitchen, Li Chenmo spotted his second brother chatting and laughing with Pan Chimu.

Raising an eyebrow, Li Chenmo thought to himself that his second brother certainly knew how to ingratiate himself with his in-laws. In just a few days, he had already formed a bond with his brother-in-law that seemed as close as blood ties.

When they noticed him, Pan Chimu waved his hands and greeted him with a smile, “Brother Chenmo.”

Li Chenmo nodded in acknowledgment, then turned to his second brother and said, “Second Brother, my wife said the dishes are almost ready. You should inform your in-laws so we can start the banquet when you are ready.”

Li Lingyun nodded and said, “Alright, I will inform your Second Sister-in-law.”

Li Chenmo said nothing in response to his brother’s bragging. Today, after all, is his brother’s day to celebrate, so he decided to be more magnanimous and let him revel in it.

After Li Lingyun and Pan Chimu went to the Pan family’s house, Li Chenmo made his way to the public kitchen.

When he arrived in the backyard, the air was thick with the heat of cooking, and most of the women working there had flushed faces from the stifling environment.

One middle-aged woman sneered when she saw how embarrassed those young women were and said, “Some people are so shameless. Eating someone else’s food while eyeing their husbands. What a vixen ah!”

The comment caused a ripple of tension among the young women, but no one dared refute her. After all, everyone did see them casting ambiguous gazes at another woman’s husband.
