Chapter 1061: Osmanthus Tea ( 2 )
Sipping the tea, the guests were pleasantly surprised. They had expected a floral tea to be bland and purely fragrant. Unexpectedly, the tea had a mild peachy flavor that lingered on the palate.
Father Pan’s third brother, particularly impressed with the tea, kept sipping the tea and praised, “Eldest Brother, where did you buy this tea? I would love to get some as a gift for my in-laws.”
Pleased by the guests’ reactions, Father Pan smiled proudly and replied, “Third Brother, I’m afraid you can’t buy this tea anywhere.”
“What do you mean, Eldest Brother? Even if it’s expensive or requires industrial coupons, I can afford it!” Third Uncle retorted, slightly annoyed.
Sensing his displeasure, Mother Pan explained, “Third Brother, it’s not about the cost. This tea isn’t for sale—it was a gift from our son-in-law. We don’t even know where he got it.”
With the focus shifting to him, Li Lingyun smiled helplessly and added, “Actually, I didn’t buy it either. It was made by my third sister-in-law.”
Everyone turned to look at Lu Jueyu with sparkling eyes. Although she had ample stock of tea in her space, she needed an excuse to avoid suspicion.
Smiling modestly, she explained, “Well, it takes several months to produce a batch of osmanthus tea. The blending process requires multiple repetitions to balance the fragrance and flavor.”
Understanding the underlying meaning of her words, the guests realized it wasn’t something she could sell casually and felt disappointed. However, some still hoped to try their luck, including the second aunt, who often dealt with government officials and saw the tea as an opportunity to enhance her husband’s standing in the circle.
After some hesitation, the second aunt asked, “Niece, would it be possible to buy just one jar? I would be willing to pay the same price as the one sold in the department store price—or we could barter.”
Catching the hint, Lu Jueyu’s eyes gleamed. She had initially planned to make some money during her trip to the capital but avoided the black market due to political instability. Now, she realized the Pan family had impressive connections. None of their relatives were simple.
After a brief pause, she replied, “It’s not impossible, Second Aunt. However, I only brought enough for our family this time. The rest is stored at our village home.”
Excited by the possibility of getting the tea leaves, the second aunt immediately said, “I heard Jiajia and Lingyun’s wedding will be held in the village. How about I visit your home so you won’t need to worry about transporting the tea?”
When Mother Pan heard this, she was taken aback. Although the second aunt was her sister-in-law, she was also an official’s wife. Her husband was a mayor in a big city.
If the second aunt could attend the wedding, it would bring great honor to her daughter. In the future, no one would dare to trouble her daughter, knowing she had such influential relatives.
Mother Pan wasn’t the only one to see this advantage, the Li family realized it as well. Thinking about her simple-minded friend, Lu Jueyu was delighted by the second aunt’s suggestion and readily agreed.
“If the second aunt can attend the wedding, our family would be honored to welcome you,” she said with a smile.
“As for the tea, I have several jars stocked at home. When you return to the city after the wedding, you can bring some back as a gift for the second uncle,” she added meaningfully.
Her words filled the Pan family with gratitude. While Pan Meijia didn’t fully understand the underlying significance of her friend’s arrangement, her parents and elder brother grasped it immediately.
Their impressions of the Li family rose sharply. They marveled at how none of the Li family members were ordinary—each seemed to have unique skills and talents.
Amidst the envious gazes of the other relatives, the second aunt’s smile widened.
“That’s a deal then. I will inform my husband tomorrow. When my brother and sister-in-law go to the village, I will accompany them,” she said warmly.
Turning to Mother Pan, she added with a playful smile, “Sister-in-law, you won’t despise me for clinging to you, will you?”
Mother Pan chuckled and replied, “How could I? I would be delighted to have you join us!”
Sitting nearby, Zhao Xirui set her teacup down and asked, “Jueyu, I heard from Qingqing that you sent her some whitening cream you made yourself. Do you have any left in stock?”
Lu Jueyu nodded but said with a sigh, “Aunt Zhao, I do have some stock at home. But the batch I have now isn’t as effective as the one I gave to Qingqing.”
“I couldn’t find another five-hundred-year-old ginseng, so I used a fifty-year-old one instead. The effectiveness is reduced by half.”
Sensing a hidden implication, Zhao Xirui asked again, “If you didn’t need to use a five-hundred-year-old ginseng, would you be able to make more cream in a month?”
Lu Jueyu paused in thought before responding, “The issue isn’t just the ginseng, it’s also the dew. I will need to find a suitable replacement for it.”
“Perhaps I could make more cream with slightly lower effectiveness. But I’m not sure if it would still be better than the creams sold in department stores,” she added with a thoughtful expression.

Before anyone could respond, the third aunt spoke up eagerly, “Niece, we have already seen how good your cream is. Even if you adjust the ingredients, I’m sure it will still be better than what is available in stores.”
“That’s right. Even the scent alone is far better than the cream I bought from the department store. I’m sure the quality will also be better than those cream,” the fourth aunt chimed in.
Hearing this, Pan Meijia turned to them and asked, “Third Aunt, Fourth Aunt, will you both attend my wedding in the village too?”
Her words left them speechless. Although they wanted to buy Lu Jueyu’s tea leaves and cream, they were unwilling to stay in a rural village. They couldn’t bear the thought of leaving the comforts of city life.
