Hearing his third brother’s words, Li Chenze glanced at the bamboo baskets they carried and exclaimed in disbelief, “Third Brother, you have caught so much prey!”

“Well, we got lucky,” Li Chenmo replied nonchalantly.

Noticing Han Yuheng and Zhang Ermu’s gazes fixed on the bamboo baskets, Lu Jueyu said, “Eldest Brother, if you need bait, feel free to come by our house. We used different bait for our traps, so we could catch a variety of prey.”

Li Chenze’s eyes lit up when he heard this, and said, “Then I will visit your house later. Thank you, Third Sister-in-law.”

As the sun began to set, Li Chenmo said, “Brother, the children are waiting at home. We will head back now.”

Before leaving, Li Chenmo took three rabbits from his wife’s basket, each weighing around 2.5 kilograms. Handing them to his brother, he said, “Brother, share these rabbits with Brother Ermu and the team leader. We caught plenty of prey today and can’t finish it all.”

Since sharing was a common practice in their family, Li Chenze didn’t refuse. Handing the rabbits to Zhang Ermu, he said, “Third Brother, we are planning to head back to the mountain after the Second Brother’s wedding banquet. Would you like to join us?”

After parting ways, Li Chenmo and Lu Jueyu returned home, while Li Chenze and the others delivered the ingredients to Li Lingyun’s house.

Upon arrival, Li Chenze knocked on the backyard gate and called, “Second Brother, it’s me.”

Inside the house, Mother Pan was busy washing vegetables alongside the second aunt and Pan Meijia in the backyard. Meanwhile, Father Pan was tasked with cleaning the fish and meat brought back by Li Lingyun in the front yard.

When the second aunt saw Li Chenze carrying more grains and vegetables into the warehouse, she asked in a low voice, “Jiajia, is there really this much food growing in the mountain?”

Comparing her children to her brother’s children, the difference felt as vast as heaven and earth. Grateful for her maternal family’s support, she held her niece’s hands tightly and said, “Jiajia, if you ever need anything in the future, just let your second aunt know.
