Chapter 1105: The Wedding Day ( 5 )
Lu Jueyu nodded at her husband’s words and said, “Husband, don’t be angry. I will give you a makeover too.”
Li Chenmo glanced at his wife and said, “No need.”
“Why? Don’t you want to look handsome too?” Lu Jueyu asked curiously.
“If I’m too handsome, you will be angry when other women look at me.”
Lu Jueyu was choked by her husband’s shameless words and glared at him. “Hmph! If those women dare to get close to you, I will hit them.”
Li Chenmo felt better when he saw his wife was jealous and let out a chuckle.
When the two of them returned to their house, Lu Jueyu took her husband into her space. They took a bath and changed clothes. When they reappeared in their bedroom, they waited a while before heading to Father Li’s house.
Since she still had to cook later, Lu Jueyu wore a floral shirt and long pants, while Li Chenmo wore a dark shirt and long pants. Their clothes were new and presentable but allowed them to move freely.
Both of them left the house on their bicycle. Today, Li Chenmo had attached a cart to the bicycle so he could carry more items, while Lu Jueyu had already filled her cloth bag with fruit candies, gummies, and chewy mocha caramels.
Although the Li family had already sent the betrothal gifts to the Pan family in the capital, they still prepared additional gifts, including fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, two jars of tea, two bottles of wine, two bags of mixed nuts, a pair of chickens, a pair of fish, a pair of pig trotters, two pairs of leather shoes, and two sets of new clothes.
These gifts were meant for Father Lu and Mother Lu, as they were considered Pan Meijia’s elders. Moreover, during her stay in Xie Village, the Lu family had taken good care of her, and this was Li Lingyun’s way of expressing gratitude.
The gifts were organized by Lu Jueyu, but it was Li Lingyun who covered the costs. As a result, the items were of excellent quality but purchased at prices much lower than the market rate.
When they arrived at Father Li’s house, the guests were chatting and laughing in the yard. A pot of hot tea and an assortment of snacks on the table kept everyone content, especially those who had traveled from afar. The Li family’s hospitality was well received and praised.
Li Chenmo parked the bicycle near the well and checked his watch. It was 7:15 AM, and everyone was already waiting for them.
The Li family had chosen this day for the wedding because the auspicious time was significantly longer than on other good days. They had eight hours of auspicious timing, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Carrying her cloth bag, Lu Jueyu entered the house with her husband. As soon as they stepped into the living room, Aunt Su waved enthusiastically at them and exclaimed, “Aiya, Jueyu, Chenmo, both of you are finally here!”
“Everyone, sorry to have kept you waiting,” Li Chenmo apologized.
“It’s alright, we still have plenty of time,” Father Li replied calmly.
Noticing that the children were dressed in the new clothes they had bought from the capital, Lu Jueyu smiled and asked, “Second brother, have you prepared the wedding candies?”
Li Lingyun nodded, pointing at two baskets of candies on the table, and said, “I bought some milk candies and maltose candies yesterday.”
Judging by the number of villagers and guests attending the wedding, it was clear the candies would only be enough for one or two pieces per person at most.
“Second brother, I don’t think those candies will be enough. I prepared some before we went to the capital, but I’m not sure if the amount will suffice,” Lu Jueyu said as she retrieved several plastic bags of candies from her bag.
When she opened the bags, everyone’s eyes widened in surprise. They were already familiar with her fruit candies and gummies, but this was their first time seeing her chewy mocha caramels.
As she poured the candies into the baskets, the air was filled with the delightful fragrances of fruit, mocha, and caramel. The children’s eyes were glued to the baskets, unable to hide their excitement.
Amused by their reactions, Lu Jueyu laughed and handed out candies to everyone to try.
When Aunt Su tried the chewy mocha caramel, her eyes lit up as she praised, “Jueyu, you are truly talented! I have never eaten anything like this before. It’s not just sweet—it’s so fragrant too.”
Smiling at her words, Lu Jueyu replied, “Aunt Su, this is called chewy mocha caramels. It’s made with sugar, water, and milk. The flavors come from plants I foraged in the mountains.”
Aunt Su nodded and knew that this was likely a secret recipe, so she didn’t press further. After she finished the candy and took a sip of tea, she said, “Since everyone is here, we should set off now. We mustn’t keep the bride and her family waiting too long.”
Before they left, Zhang Dongmei fetched several small bamboo baskets from the kitchen and divided the candies among them. She handed the baskets to the adults to prevent chaos or anyone from forcefully grabbing candies later.
As the wedding procession began, the guests followed behind. Most of the attendees were close friends and relatives who had traveled specifically for today’s wedding.

With such a large group of people, the procession was lively and festive. The addition of wedding candies further elevated the excitement, attracting children and even villagers from neighboring areas who came to join the fun.
As they walked toward the Lu family’s house, Li Chenmo stayed close to his wife. With his stern demeanor, no one dared snatch candies from their baskets. At the same time, Li Chenze maintained a similarly protective stance, shielding his pregnant wife.
Meanwhile, Dong Li led his sister and cousins in hitting a gong and singing songs, making the atmosphere even more cheerful. Seeing them having such fun, other children eagerly joined in while tasting the sweetness of the wedding candies.
