Noticing their expressions, Lu Jueyu smiled and said, “Thank you all for your hard work. We have prepared five tables of meals in the side hall for everyone. Please take a break and enjoy a meal.”

Hearing this, the helpers finally smiled. Aunt Chen waved her hand and said, “Jueyu ah, leftovers would have been enough. There was no need to prepare a separate meal for us.”

“Aunt Chen, everyone came to help without expecting anything in return. As hosts, how could we let you eat leftovers? This is just our way of thanking you for your help. Please enjoy the meal with ease,” Lu Jueyu said with a smile.

Those who had initially intended to ask for extra money or ingredients were rendered speechless by her words.

Her words subtly reminded them that their help was voluntary. If they made any additional requests, it would only make them appear greedy.

Although some were unhappy that they couldn’t get more things, they kept their thoughts to themselves and brought their children to eat.

After everyone left for the side hall, Lu Jueyu walked to the area near the well. Seeing her husband and son washing dishes, she felt a pang of distress.

The two of them had yet to eat and were busy cleaning. Although several girls were helping, they had been washing nonstop for two hours.

Standing behind them, she said, “Husband, Ah Li, take a break and have a meal first. We can finish cleaning later.”

Hearing her voice, both Li Chenmo and Dong Li stopped and nodded. After wiping their hands, she noticed their skin had turned pale and wrinkled from the water.

Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a jar of ointment from her space and handed it to them while saying, “Apply this ointment first.”

Taking the jar, Li Chenmo held his wife’s hands and applied the ointment for her while saying, “Wife, thank you for your hard work.”

Lu Jueyu smiled, applied some ointment on her hands, and gently massaged her husband’s fingers and palms.

“It’s alright. I drank plenty of water,” she replied.

Seeing his parents being lovey-dovey again, Dong Li grabbed some ointment and walked toward the side hall, rubbing his palms as he went.

After applying the ointment, Lu Jueyu asked, “Husband, with the brigade secretary here, do you think they will ask about the source of our ingredients?”

Li Chenmo nodded and said, “They will, but I have prepared for it. Even if they know the sources, they won’t do anything to us.”

“Will they claim the mountains? If they do, we won’t be able to explain where we get our ingredients in the future,” she asked again.

Squeezing her hand, Li Chenmo chuckled and replied, “That depends on Han Yuheng’s performance. I have already told him how to convince the brigade secretary not to claim the mountains.”

“Since his family also relies on the mountains for food, I’m sure he will do his best. Even if he fails, the brigade secretary won’t act against us. At most, he will ask us to reveal the paths and locations we forage from,” he added confidently.

Lu Jueyu sighed when she heard this and said, “It’s best if they don’t claim the mountains. Otherwise, all our efforts in planting the open fields will be wasted.”

“If they do claim the mountains, we will treat our efforts as good deeds. Don’t dwell on it. Let nature take its course. Now, let’s eat before all the food is gone,” Li Chenmo said while tidying her hair.

With nothing else to say, Lu Jueyu could only nod and follow her husband to the side hall for their meal.

An hour later, the helpers finished their meal and started cleaning up the kitchen, side hall, and main village hall. Before they began cleaning the village hall, the guests, including the production team and brigade staff, had already left.

Standing in the yard, Father Li looked at his second son and said, “Second son, you should go back with your wife and get some rest. Your in-laws and the second aunt can stay at the third son’s house until they return to the city.”

Understanding his meaning, Father Pan nodded and said, “We have heard that Chenmo’s house is very beautiful and we have long wanted to visit. This is a good opportunity for us to broaden our knowledge.”

“Uncle Pan, we can head back once we finish cleaning the kitchen,” Li Chenmo added with a smile.

Hearing this, everyone nodded in agreement. While they were chatting and waiting, Lu Jueyu supervised the cleaning.
