Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife - Chapter 1146
Chapter 1146: Prodigal Girl
Before replying to her brother’s question, Liu Hua noticed that some villagers were watching them, with a few even trying to eavesdrop on their conversation.
Worried that this matter might harm Teacher Lin’s or her brother’s reputation, she lowered her voice and said, “Brother, ask for leave and follow me. Teacher Lin’s injuries aren’t minor, and we may need to do something to compensate her.”
“Even though Shi Qiwan is no longer your wife, this matter is still connected to you,” she added quietly.
Hearing his sister’s words, Liu Pan’s frown deepened. During their divorce, he had come to understand his ex-wife’s true nature and personality.
Someone as unreasonable as her would likely act impulsively, believing baseless gossip without seeking evidence. It was possible she had heard some unfounded rumor about him and Teacher Lin, which had provoked her to attack the young woman.
Reaching this conclusion, Liu Pan nodded and said, “Ah Hua, wait for me here. I will ask the team leader for a leave.”
Liu Hua nodded and waited for her brother. A short while later, Liu Pan returned and said, “Let’s go.”
Meanwhile, at Doctor Xie’s house, Lin Muai sat on the bamboo bed while Doctor Xie checked her injuries.
Standing beside them, Comrade Han asked, “Doctor Xie, how are Comrade Lin’s injuries?”
After a moment, Doctor Xie opened his medicine box and began cleaning the wounds.
“The injuries on her cheeks and body look severe, but they are only surface wounds. With the wound ointment, she will fully recover in a few days,” he explained.
“But the injuries on her throat need to be checked at the hospital to rule out any internal damage,” he added.
Hearing this, Comrade Han glanced at Lin Muai’s neck and noticed the purple bruises shaped like handprints. Just looking at the marks, he realized she had been strangled, and whoever did it had intended to harm her seriously.
Noticing his gloomy expression, Lin Muai waved her hand to get his attention and said hoarsely, “I’m fine.”
Doctor Xie snorted when he heard this and said, “With your condition, if you had been strangled a little longer, you could have lost your life—or at the very least, your voice.”
“Give me the ointment,” he added, reaching out his hand.
It took Lin Muai a moment to realize he was referring to the ointment Dong Huang had given her. Taking the jar from her pocket, she handed it to him.
Opening the lid, Doctor Xie sniffed it and said with a touch of irritation, “That little girl is too prodigal. It’s not easy to make an ointment of this quality, yet she gave it to you for free.”
Lin Muai was taken aback when she heard his words and asked, “Doctor Xie, is this ointment expensive?”
“Expensive? This kind of ointment is so rare that even if you had money, it wouldn’t guarantee you could buy it,” Doctor Xie replied with a hint of sourness in his voice.
Both Lin Muai and Comrade Han were stunned by his words. While Lin Muai marveled at Dong Huang’s generosity, Comrade Han was surprised that someone in their village could produce such high-quality medicine besides Doctor Xie.
With the ointment in hand, Doctor Xie applied it to her wounds without bothering to use other treatments. Afterward, he wrapped Lin Muai’s neck in a bandage. With her pale face and the bandage, she looks like a delicate and fragile woman.
Not long after, Liu Hua and Liu Pan arrived. Seeing them, Comrade Han greeted, “Comrade Liu, Sister-in-law, you are here.”
“Comrade Han, thank you for sending Teacher Lin here. We will take care of her now, so you can return to your work,” Liu Hua said with a smile.
Since he still had a lot to do, Comrade Han didn’t insist on staying and replied before leaving, “Comrade Lin and I are friends. It’s the least I could do.”
Liu Hua approached the bamboo bed and noticed the bandage on Lin Muai’s neck. She glanced at Doctor Xie, but before she could ask, he explained, “The injuries on her body are only surface wounds. The swelling will go down in a few days.”
“But the injuries on her throat are more serious. She should go to the hospital for a proper check-up. Without treatment, her vocal cords could be damaged—or worse, she might lose her voice.”
Hearing this, Liu Pan felt a wave of guilt. Although he hadn’t directly harmed her, what happened was a result of his ex-wife’s actions. If not for her, Lin Muai wouldn’t have been hurt this badly.
Overwhelmed by his thoughts, Liu Pan bowed deeply to Lin Muai and said sincerely, “Teacher Lin, I’m sorry for what happened to you. I will make sure to compensate you and cover all your medical expenses.”
Lin Muai was startled by his gesture. She quickly gestured for him to stop bowing to her and said hoarsely, “Comrade Liu, it’s not your fault. You don’t have to—”

Seeing her still trying to talk despites her injuries, Doctor Xie interrupted sternly, “Girl, stop talking. If you want your vocal cords to heal, you need to rest them.”
Feeling the pain in her throat, Lin Muai nodded and stopped speaking. After a moment, she took out her notebook from her bag and wrote something on it. Since Liu Pan and Liu Hua were illiterate, Doctor Xie read it aloud.
“It’s not your fault, so you don’t need to pay for my medical expenses. Thank you.”
Doctor Xie’s tone carried subtle disapproval as he read the words. The Liu siblings couldn’t help but feel a heavy pressure, realizing that if they didn’t compensate her, they might lose the doctor’s good will towards them.
As they pondered how best to handle the situation, Doctor Xie said, “Girl, my apprentice works as a doctor at the county hospital. I will write you a recommendation letter. Ask for Song Yan, and he will help you find a specialist. As for the expenses, the person who injured you should pay.”
