Chapter 1160: Confrontation ( 2 )
Unlike the Feng couple, Lu Jueyu was someone who despised bullies. Hearing Yang Mengyao’s impolite tone, she smiled and retorted, “This comrade, before you ask about others, how about you introduce yourself first?”
Though she smiled, her tone carried clear disdain toward the other party. Coupled with her provoking gaze, it was obvious she didn’t take the woman in front of her seriously.
Yang Mengyao was furious when she heard her words and retorted, “Who am I? I’m the owner of this house!”
Hearing this, Lu Jueyu looked at her with feigned surprise and replied, “Ah, I thought every property in the village was owned by the brigade. Since when can individuals own houses?”
After a moment of hesitation, she pointed at Yang Mengyao and added with exaggerated shock, “Comrade, don’t tell me you are a landlord?!”
Her words hung heavily in the air, laden with serious accusations. If someone overheard her words and reported this, Yang Mengyao could face severe consequences. Being labeled a landlord could lead to her family being sent to a labor camp and losing everything.
Due to strict government regulations and laws, citizens would rather make a false report than be accused of being an accomplice. If they hear something about the Five Black Categories and fail to report it, they will be implicated when something goes wrong.
Yang Mengyao stiffened due to the fear of being reported and replied cautiously, “This comrade, you have misunderstood. I meant that I’m living here, so I should count as the owner.”
Nodding at her words, Lu Jueyu sighed and reminded her, “Comrade, even if you lack education, you should be mindful of your words. A careless remark could bring trouble to your family ah.”
After she finished her words, she turned to Grandma Feng, and said, “Aunt Feng, I didn’t know you had a distant relative. Why didn’t you mention it? If I had known someone was forcing you to let her live with you, I would have visited you sooner.”
“Although you and this comrade are related, you and Uncle Feng are too kind-hearted, and Xiao Lin is still too young. People like you are the main targets of shameless people ah,” she added with distressed.
Hearing her words, Grandma Feng smiled and replied, “I didn’t want to trouble you with family matters.”
Acting as if she were at her own home, Lu Jueyu ignored the fuming Yang Mengyao. She took Grandma Feng’s hand and led her to the main seats.
Once the Feng couple was seated, she poured them tea and said, “Aunt Feng, in my family, we never tolerate distant relatives causing trouble in our home.”
Glancing meaningfully at Yang Mengyao, she continued, “If someone tried to force their way in, my mother would grab a broom and teach them a lesson. There were times when people claiming to be distant relatives demanded money, food, and shelter from us.”
“When my mother heard their demands, she beat them and reported them to the team leader as thieves. Aunt Feng, if you encounter unreasonable people, don’t tolerate them and just report them directly to the team leader.”
“Our country and leaders are just and wise. They will ensure justice is served and deal with shameless troublemakers,” she added while glancing at Yang Mengyao.
Yang Mengyao was livid as she heard her sarcastic remarks. She pointed a trembling finger at Lu Jueyu and demanded, “Who are you calling thieves? Explain yourself, or don’t blame me for being rude!”
Lu Jueyu’s eyes turned cold the moment she heard this. She looked at Yang Mengyao and said, “Comrade, I may not know you, but I know Uncle Feng, Aunt Feng, and Xiao Lin have lived here for decades.”
“You neither resemble them nor sound like a good person. With no family ties or relationships, what right do you have to claim this house and threaten them?” she asked with raised eyebrows.
Before Yang Mengyao could respond, Lu Jueyu added as her gaze swept over her, “I see you are dressed like an educated youth, yet you speak and act like an uneducated shrew. Even the most notorious shrews in my village would be outdone by you. Truly, you have broadened my horizons today.”
Yang Mengyao was so furious she was rendered speechless. Though she had attended school, she struggled academically and barely managed to graduate junior high. Knowing her limitations, she had schemed to marry Feng Chen, believing he would support her for life.
Unexpectedly, after Feng Chen returned to the village and visited his parents, his behavior changed drastically. He no longer gave her his salary, monthly ration, or coupons. He even refused to let her stay with his parents, demanding she return to the city with him.
When she refused, he packed his belongings and left alone. Now, she lived in a run-down inn in town with her son, barely scraping by. Without her frequent visits to ‘collect’ food from the Feng family, she and her child would have starved.
As she reflected on her plight, Yang Mengyao’s anger turned to suspicion. She glared at Lu Jueyu with hatred and asked, “Is it you?”
Confused by her sudden words, Lu Jueyu asked her back, “Comrade, what do you mean?”
“Don’t play dumb! You seduced my husband and made him treat me coldly! Vixen, you ruined my marriage!” Yang Mengyao shouted.
Lu Jueyu frowned at her outburst and said, “Can’t you speak like a normal person? Even if your throat doesn’t hurt, my ears are suffering from your shouting.”
Though her words were calm, they struck Yang Mengyao like a slap. Standing before the composed and beautiful Lu Jueyu, Yang Mengyao felt utterly humiliated, as though all her hidden intentions had been seen through and all her shortcomings were laid bare.
Seeing that Yang Mengyao remained silent, Lu Jueyu said coldly, “Comrade, I know you are Xiao Lin’s stepmother, and you trapped his father into marrying you. As someone who destroyed a good family, you should feel ashamed and behave yourself.”
