Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife - Chapter 1162
Chapter 1162: Doubt And Hope
Hearing her husband’s concern, Grandma Feng nodded and added, “My husband is right. Jueyu ah, you shouldn’t get involved in this matter.”
Seeing the two elders looking anxious, Lu Jueyu offered a reassuring smile and replied, “Uncle Feng, Aunt Feng, don’t worry, my husband has a good relationship with the brigade’s secretary. I don’t believe they would dare to do anything to me or my family here. After all, a dragon can’t beat a local snake.”
Hearing her confidence, Grandpa Feng let out a heavy sigh and said, “Alas, my son made mistakes, and now we are left powerless against that woman.”
“Uncle Feng, why don’t you report her to the team leader? Even if she is your son’s wife, she shouldn’t be allowed to take your food and money like this,” Lu Jueyu suggested.
Grandpa Feng shook his head and explained, “She gave birth to my grandson. Even if they haven’t been added to the family genealogy book, that child still carries my Feng family’s blood. They are living in town now, and we can’t just ignore the child and let him starve.”
Frowning at his response, Lu Jueyu asked again, “Then, what about Xiao Lin? Does his father know about this situation?”
Grandma Feng interjected softly, “Well, he has his own difficulties, and Ah Lin understands.”
This time, Lu Jueyu’s expression turned serious as she said, “Aunt Feng, you can’t be biased like this. No matter what, Xiao Lin is the one you raised and have been living with. For the sake of a child whose identity is still questionable, are you really willing to let Xiao Lin suffer?”
Her words left Grandma Feng momentarily stunned. After a pause, she asked, “Jueyu, what do you mean by that?”
Lu Jueyu hesitated briefly before continuing, “Aunt Feng, are you absolutely certain that the child is your grandson?”
Seeing the old couple’s shocked expressions, she elaborated, “While it’s not common, there are cases where women trap men into marriage, either because they have lost their virginity or because they are pregnant. For such women, as long as someone is willing to take responsibility, they often don’t care who that person is.”
As soon as they heard her words, Grandpa and Grandma Feng recalled their son’s words when they asked him about what happened that night. Based on what he had told them back then, it seemed he didn’t sleep with Yang Mengyao on the night he was drugged.
After that night, their son never touched her. So, how could she possibly be pregnant? Who was Feng Heng’s father?
The moment doubt crept into their minds, the Feng couple’s eyes widened in shock. They exchanged a glance, and a glimmer of hope appeared in their expressions.
If Feng Heng was not their grandson, then their son had no reason to stay married to Yang Mengyao, and the Yang family would lose any leverage to threaten him.
But how could they prove that Feng Heng was not a child of the Feng family?
Noticing their concern, Lu Jueyu suggested, “Uncle Feng, Aunt Feng, my husband has a friend in the city. How about I ask my husband to help you investigate this matter?”
Hearing this, they were delighted. However, thinking about the effort, risk, and cost of conducting an investigation, Grandpa Feng hesitated and said, “Jueyu, we are grateful, but this matter isn’t easy to resolve. We don’t want to trouble you and your family.”
“Uncle Feng, Xiao Lin saved my daughter’s life. Such a life-saving grace cannot be repaid with just food or water. Since your family is in trouble, helping you is the least my family and I can do. Besides, Xiao Huang is worried about Xiao Lin,” Lu Jueyu replied.
“Because of this matter, Xiao Huang has lost her appetite and can’t sleep well. In the end, helping your family is helping my own daughter.” She said with a smile.
Since she had said this, Grandpa Feng and Grandma Feng no longer refused. Grandma Feng held Lu Jueyu’s hands and said gratefully, “Jueyu, thank you so much. If not for you and your family, our family would have long been—”
Seeing Grandma Feng sobbing, Lu Jueyu sighed and comforted her, “Aunt Feng, the future will be better. Everything will be fine, and this too shall pass.”
Although Grandma Feng didn’t fully understand her words, she nodded and smiled, “I will borrow your blessed words.”
After calming down, Lu Jueyu said, “Uncle Feng, Aunt Feng, I heard from Xiao Huang that your house is running out of grains and vegetables. My husband and I gathered some from the mountain earlier, so I brought some for you.”
Before the elderly couple could refuse, she quickly added, “Uncle, Aunty, please don’t turn it down. These foods were foraged from the mountain and didn’t cost us anything. This is also for Xiao Huang’s peace of mind.”
After a moment of hesitation, Grandpa Feng nodded and accepted, “Jueyu, please thank your husband and Xiao Huang for us.”
“I will convey your thanks, Uncle Feng. Let’s move the supplies first,” Lu Jueyu said with a nod.
The three of them left the living room together. Lu Jueyu went to where she had parked her bicycle, removed the dry hay that covered it, and rode it to the backyard. She then helped the old couple carry the supplies to the kitchen.
For water, she rode her bicycle to the back of the kitchen and filled the water vats. Though the water she brought only filled one vat, she took out the lake water from her space directly as she placed her hands inside the vats until all the vats were full.
Looking at the now-filled vats, she smiled with satisfaction before she pushed her bicycle to the front yard, and prepared to leave. Since she had done what was needed, she returned to Xie Village in a good mood.
