Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife - Chapter 1164
Chapter 1164: Request ( 2 )
Lu Jueyu didn’t ask her husband to slow down but poured him another cup of herbal tea. Occasionally, she used the cold towel to wipe away his sweat.
With such a loving and caring wife, Li Chenmo felt like the luckiest man alive and ate in high spirits.
While the couple enjoyed their lunch and sweet time together, others were not as fortunate. Although they had recently received grains, they had to ration their food carefully to avoid starving by the second half of the year.
At this moment, most were either eating cold, hard buns made of coarse grains that could choke them if they weren’t careful or cold pancakes made of coarse flour. Their portions were small, leaving them only half-full, so they had to drink water to feel full.
As they ate, they couldn’t help but take deep breaths, inhaling the mouthwatering aroma wafting from Li Chenmo’s direction, imagining they were eating the delicacies prepared by Lu Jueyu. Fortunately, the fragrance alone was enough to stir their appetite, making their dull and boring meal better.
After they finished their lunch, Lu Jueyu packed the empty bowls and plates and served her husband snow fungus soup. While he enjoyed the dessert, she said, “Husband, I visited Uncle and Aunt Feng this morning and met Feng Lin’s stepmother.”
Hearing this, Li Chenmo said nothing, waiting for her to continue. A moment later, she spoke with a hint of anger.
“Husband, do you know how shameless that woman is?” she asked rhetorically.
“Not only did she treat Uncle and Aunt Feng rudely, but she even dared to threaten them using her family’s position. If I hadn’t seen it myself, I wouldn’t believe someone like her existed. When I went into their kitchen, there wasn’t even a grain of rice left. She had taken even the salt and oil, leaving nothing behind!” she added with a deep frown.
Seeing how upset his wife was, Li Chenmo swallowed his soup and asked, “Wife, do you want me to do something?”
Hearing his words, Lu Jueyu smiled and said, “Husband, don’t you have friends in the city? Can you help Uncle and Aunt Feng investigate what happened to their son five years ago?”
Raising an eyebrow, he asked, “Why do you want to look into it?”
“Well, Xiao Huang told me that Xiao Lin’s father was drugged and trapped by that woman. He was forced to divorce his wife and marry her, or his family would be harmed,” she explained.
“From Uncle and Aunt Feng’s reactions today, I feel there is more to the story. Maybe she never even slept with Xiao Lin’s father, and he was just a scapegoat,” she added.
Seeing his wife talking and acting like a little detective, Li Chenmo chuckled and asked, “Wife, are you really that curious about this?”
Nodding her head, Lu Jueyu replied, “Husband, aren’t you curious at all? A harmonious family was torn apart by her schemes. And no one knows what happened to Xiao Lin’s mother.”
“Maybe we can help Xiao Lin find his mother while investigating this matter. It would be a good way to repay him for saving our daughter,” she added.
After thinking for a moment, Li Chenmo nodded and said, “Since you have decided, we will do as you say. I will ask my friend to investigate this matter.”
Relieved by her husband’s words, Lu Jueyu asked, “Husband, do you need to pay your friend? Should I prepare something for him?”
Li Chenmo shook his head and replied with a smile, “Don’t worry about it. I will take care of these minor details.”
Since her husband has said so, Lu Jueyu nodded, then leaned closer and whispered, “Husband, when you get back, I want to discuss an investment with you.”
“Wife, do you want to start a business?” he asked with interest.
“It’s not me—it’s your second brother. It’s inconvenient to discuss it here. Let’s talk at home,” Lu Jueyu replied.
Since he would find out eventually, Li Chenmo didn’t press further and said, “Wife, I’m going to take a nap. You should head back and avoid heatstroke.”
“Husband, you go take your nap. I will leave after the break,” she said while pulling out a palm leaf fan from her basket.
Knowing she wanted to make him more comfortable, Li Chenmo didn’t refuse. He lay down, using his bamboo hat to cover his face, and closed his eyes.
Using her body to block everyone’s view, she placed a bowl of ice between her and her husband and fanned it gently, creating a cool breeze that blew over her husband. With the refreshing air, he soon drifted off to sleep.
Hearing her husband’s soft snores, Lu Jueyu smiled and continued fanning while stifling a yawn. The hot weather made it hard to resist drowsiness. As she waved the fan, her eyelids grew heavy, and she eventually dozed off.
Despite her sleepiness, Lu Jueyu still worried that her husband would be startled awake by the loud siren. So, she would open her eyes occasionally to check her watch, worried he might get a headache if startled awake.
When the time showed five minutes to one in the afternoon, she gently set the palm leaf fan aside and patted her husband’s arm lightly.

“Husband, the rest time is almost over,” she said softly.
Li Chenmo stirred at her touch and opened his eyes slowly. With his eyes half open, he was momentarily dazed. Removing the straw hat from his face, he sat up slowly before he rubbed his eyes.
Noticing the thin layer of sweat on his wife’s forehead and delicate nose, he said in a hoarse voice, “Wife, you should go back and rest too.”
Feeling sticky and uncomfortable from the heat, Lu Jueyu nodded and replied, “Okay.”
After refilling her husband’s bamboo bottle with water, she packed up her things and rode her bicycle back home as the siren blared.
Along the way, she saw several villagers startled by the loud noise and let out a small sigh.
