Fortunately, Lu Jueyu had stayed with her husband. Otherwise, he might have been startled awake just like them and have a headache later.

What she didn’t know was that if she hadn’t been there, Li Chenmo would only have rested with his eyes closed but not truly fallen asleep. Her presence had given him a sense of security, allowing him to relax fully.

Thanks to the half-hour nap, Li Chenmo felt energized and refreshed during the second half of work. In contrast to the sluggish villagers, whose pace had slowed in the afternoon heat, his work efficiency increased.

When a production staff member tasked with monitoring work attitudes observed this, they nodded approvingly and recorded a high grade next to his name.

In their brigade, receiving a good grade came with rewards in the form of extra work points during the distribution day. This was a relatively new, hidden rule known only to the production team staff.

This new rule stemmed from a casual remark by Chen Jianmin during a conversation with Li Shu. Their discussion had been overheard by Xie Xuanzi, who then brought the idea to the brigade secretary. Unexpectedly, the suggestion was well-received and swiftly implemented.

If this rule proved successful in improving the brigade’s work efficiency, the brigade secretary planned to submit the idea to the capital for consideration, potentially implementing it out nationwide.

When Lu Jueyu arrived home, she rested briefly in her space before continuing to harvest vegetables. Since they planned to build greenhouses soon, she aimed to finish harvesting as quickly as possible. Taking advantage of being alone at home, she used modern tools, which significantly increased her efficiency.

Just as Lu Jueyu finished harvesting another plot of the vegetable garden, she heard the sound of the gate opening and knew her children had returned from school. She quickly stored the modern tools back into her space.

Not long after, her children walked over, accompanied by their cousins and friends. Besides Chen Jianmin and his siblings, Feng Lin, Liu Fuyan, and her younger brother were also present.

When the children saw her, they greeted her cheerfully, “Auntie!”

“Mother, we are back,” Dong Huang and Dong Li said in unison.

Seeing that they were sweaty and flushed from the heat, Lu Jueyu nodded and said, “Go wash off the sweat and grab some herbal tea to drink. There is also snow fungus soup in the jar by the pond for dessert.”

Hearing about the sweet dessert, Dong Huang trotted over to hug her mother’s leg. Looking up with a sweet smile, she said, “Thank you, Mother.”

Lu Jueyu smiled at her little cotton-padded jacket and rubbed her daughter’s soft hair gently.

“Mother, our cousins and friends came to help us harvest the vegetables,” Dong Li said.

“Third Aunt, we heard you and Third Uncle are planning to build greenhouses. So, we came to help harvest the vegetables and assist with the greenhouses,” said Li Jingqian with a grin.

Lu Jueyu smiled at him and replied, “Thank you for coming. Everyone should go wash up and eat first.”

“Third Aunt, we already ate lunch before coming over,” said Li Jingxu.

Lu Jueyu nodded and replied, “Then have some herbal tea or snow fungus soup to drive away the heat.”

“Thank you, Third Aunt, Aunty,” the children chorused before heading to the backyard.

As they went, Lu Jueyu smiled and returned to harvesting the vegetables.

In the backyard, the children found two large jars placed under the bamboo waterway, where fresh mountain spring water flowed into the pond. After washing off the sweat and dirt from their faces and hands, Dong Li and Chen Jianmin carried the jars to the kitchen.

Dong Li ladled herbal tea from a large pot into bamboo cups before distributing them to everyone. Meanwhile, Chen Jianmin served snow fungus soup into bowls. After finishing their tea, each child was given a bowl of cold snow fungus soup, which they carried to the balcony to enjoy.

Dong Li and Dong Huang, who had already eaten their lunch at school, weren’t particularly hungry and joined the others to enjoy the soup.

As they ate, Dong Li occasionally glanced at Liu Fuyan and her brother, Liu Qingran. Noticing the boy’s empty bowls, he asked, “Ranran, do you want more soup?”

Liu Qingran looked to his sister for permission. When Liu Fuyan nodded, he timidly replied, “Brother Ah Li, can I have another bowl?”

Placing his own bowl down, Dong Li smiled and said, “Of course. There is plenty left. If you like it, you can take some home to share with your father.”

Before Liu Qingran could respond, Liu Fuyan quickly interjected, “Brother Dong Li, just one more bowl for Ranran is enough.”

Dong Li glanced at her but said nothing and took Liu Qingran’s bowl to the kitchen. Assuming he had agreed with her, Liu Fuyan continued sipping her soup slowly.

Not far from them, Chen Jianmin was watching the scene with an amused grin. Just as he began wondering whether Dong Li even realized his behavior and treatment toward Liu Fuyan was different compared to how he treats others, he felt a poke on his arm.

Turning his head, he found Dong Huang and Feng Lin were looking at him curiously.

“Xiao Huang, what’s wrong?” he asked with raised eyebrows.

Dong Huang hesitated before leaning closer to whisper, “Brother Jianmin, don’t you like Sister Li Shu? Why are you staring at Sister Fuyan? Aren’t you afraid Sister Li Shu will get mad at you if she finds out?”

Chen Jianmin froze at her words as he was startled by her observation. He hadn’t expected anyone to notice him enjoying the interaction between his friend and Liu Fuyan.
