The moment this thought appeared in his mind, Liu Pan realized that Wang Muyang was feeling jealous, and he quickly explained, “Teacher Wang, I came to apologize to Teacher Lin today and offered to take her to the hospital for a check-up.”

Wang Muyang was taken aback at his words. Looking at Lin Muai, he asked with a hint of worry, “Teacher Lin, why didn’t you tell me you were injured so badly?”

“I’m fine—”

Before she could finish, Wang Muyang added, “I will take you to the hospital. Where are your wallet and documents?”

Hearing this, Liu Pan stood up and said, “Since Teacher Wang is here, I won’t accompany you two to the hospital.”

While Wang Muyang’s eyes lit up at this, Lin Muai was stunned. She understood Wang Muyang’s feelings for her and had kept her distance, hoping to maintain their relationship as colleagues.

When she thought of spending time alone with Wang Muyang, she instantly refused the idea in her heart. She wanted to tell him she would rather go with him than with Wang Muyang.

But before she could say anything, Liu Pan glanced at her and said with a grin, “Teacher Lin, please let me know the hospital bill later.”

Then, turning to Wang Muyang, he added, “Teacher Wang, I will take my leave now.”

Wang Muyang couldn’t wait for Liu Pan to leave. So the moment he saw Liu Pan preparing to depart, he eagerly nodded and said, “Don’t worry, Comrade Liu. I will take good care of Teacher Lin.”

Liu Pan returned the nod and strode out of the house. When he walked to the front yard, he saw Liu Piao washing clothes by the well. He walked over to her and said, “Ah Piao, if you need anything, just let Brother know.”

Hearing his voice, Liu Piao stopped what she was doing and asked, “Brother, weren’t you going to take Teacher Lin to the hospital? Why are you leaving now?”

“Teacher Wang said he would send Teacher Lin to the hospital. Since he is here, I don’t think I need to go,” Liu Pan explained simply.

Liu Piao gave him a look of exasperation, her gaze filled with the frustration of ‘hating iron for not becoming steel.’ Despite having spent only two days with Lin Muai, she could sense the young woman’s fondness for her cousin.

Liu Piao had always hoped her cousin would find someone who could treat him well and bring warmth to his life. Therefore, when she found out that Lin Muai had a good feeling toward her cousin, she was very happy.

Although there was a noticeable age difference between him and Lin Muai, she believed they were well-suited. It would be a shame if Liu Pan spent the rest of his days alone, just because of what Shi Qiwan did to him and his failed marriage.

After a long moment of staring at him, Liu Piao sighed and said, “Brother, you should go with them. You are stronger than Teacher Wang. What if Teacher Lin can’t walk and needs to be carried? You could easily carry her on your back.”

Liu Pan froze as the image of Lin Muai leaning against his back flickered through his mind. A faint blush crept to the tips of his ears instantly. Feeling embarrassed, he shook the thought away but couldn’t help considering his cousin’s words.

‘Ah Piao might be right. Teacher Wang is so thin—could he even manage to help her if needed?’ he thought inwardly.

After a moment of hesitation, Liu Pan finally made up his mind and asked, “Ah Piao, how about you come with us? It would be more convenient with you there. Some things would be awkward for us to handle as men.”

Liu Piao’s eyes lit up at her cousin’s words and she agreed without hesitation, “Alright.”

Then, just as she turned to go inside, she added, “Brother, you should go and borrow Zhang Ermu’s bullock cart. It will be faster than walking and won’t worsen Teacher Lin’s injuries.”

“I will go now,” he said and hurried off.

Inside the house, Liu Piao entered the living room, where Wang Muyang was waiting alone. He was sitting there in a daze, his thoughts clearly elsewhere.

Pretending not to notice his excitement, Liu Piao said lightly, “Teacher Wang, I will be accompanying you and Teacher Lin to the hospital. My brother went to borrow a bullock cart, so we will have to wait a little while.”

Before Wang Muyang could respond, Lin Muai came out from her bedroom. She looked at Liu Piao with a gaze of seeing a benefactor as she said, “Sister Liu, I’m so sorry to trouble you and your brother with my matter.”

“It’s no trouble at all, Teacher Lin,” Liu Piao replied with a cheerful smile.

She cast a quick glance at Wang Muyang and saw the gloom in his eyes. She pretended as if she didn’t see it and added, “This is the least we can do.”

After saying that, she went to the bedroom to change clothes and get her wallet. She knew that her cousin had little money left after paying the separation fee to Shi Qiwan.

Judging from the severity of Lin Muai’s injuries, the hospital bills may be quite large. After all, Doctor Xie told them to check her head.
