Chapter 1184: I Will Wait For You ( 1 )
After a brief moment of hesitation, Lin Muai nodded and said, “Okay.”
The doctor scribbled notes on her file and handed it to the nurse while instructing, “Conduct a balance test as well.”
The nurse nodded, taking the file, and replied, “Understood.”
An hour later, the nurse returned with Lin Muai. She handed the test results to the doctor, and said, “Doctor, here are the results.”
The doctor carefully reviewed the documents while Lin Muai took her seat. After a few moments, he set the papers down and asked, “Comrade Lin, have you experienced nausea, dizziness, or difficulty concentrating?”
Lin Muai nodded hesitantly and replied, “I felt dizzy and vomited several times two days ago, but I’m feeling better now.”
The doctor’s expression darkened at her words and said sternly, “Comrade Lin, you have suffered a concussion. You are fortunate the past couple of days didn’t worsen your condition since it’s a mild concussion. However, if it were more severe, it could have caused permanent brain damage.”
Lin Muai turned pale at his words, her hands trembling slightly.
Noticing her panic, the doctor continued, “Head injuries are not minor matters. Even if there is no direct brain damage, they can lead to complications such as hearing or vision loss, speech impairment, chronic headaches, dizziness, mood swings, or difficulties with reading and writing. The consequences can be serious.”
Hearing this, Liu Piao leaned forward anxiously and asked, “Doctor, how is my friend’s condition now?”
The doctor sighed and replied, “Fortunately, Comrade Lin’s case is mild. She needs plenty of rest, should avoid activities requiring intense concentration or vigorous movement, and should sleep as much as possible. I will prescribe some medication for headaches. Take it only when needed.”
Both Lin Muai and Liu Piao visibly relaxed after they heard his words, relieved to hear it wasn’t worse.
After writing the prescription, the doctor handed it to the nurse. Then, he looked at Liu Piao and added, “If her symptoms worsen or don’t improve in a few days, bring her back for another checkup.”
Taking the prescription, Liu Piao nodded and replied, “We will keep that in mind. Thank you, Doctor.”
The doctor nodded briefly and signaled to the nurse, who gestured toward the door as she said, “Comrades, this way, please.”
Realizing it was time to leave, Lin Muai and Liu Piao stood and left the office. Outside, the nurse handed them a paper and said, “Comrade, you can settle the bill at the counter in the lobby.”
Accepting the bill, Liu Piao replied, “Thank you, Comrade.”
In the lobby, Liu Piao went to settle the bill while Lin Muai walked toward Liu Pan and Wang Muyang.
Seeing her approach, Wang Muyang quickly stood and asked, “Teacher Lin, how is it? What did the doctor say?”
As they moved toward a bench, Lin Muai replied, “The doctor said I have a mild concussion and need to rest. Teacher Wang, could you inform the principal that I will need a few more days off?”
Seeing her coming, Liu Pan asked, “Teacher Lin, is there anything I can do to help?”
Before she could respond, Wang Muyang interjected, “There is no need to trouble yourself, Comrade Liu. I will handle everything.”
Hearing this, Liu Pan simply nodded, unbothered by his harsh tone. His indifferent reaction made the light in Lin Muai’s eyes dim.
Noticing her low spirits, Liu Pan assumed she was feeling unwell and chose not to disturb her further. Instead, he stood quietly behind her, waiting for his cousin.
Yet, as they waited, he couldn’t help but glance at her occasionally, thinking to himself how different she was from other women he had known. Her gentleness and generosity made him unable to stop himself from paying more attention to her.
Despite being beaten and diagnosed with a concussion, she didn’t make a scene or demand compensation. If it was someone else, they would have made a scene or even reported the perpetrator to the authorities.
Comparing her to his ex-wife, the difference was stark—like heaven and earth. The moment this thought appeared in his mind, he was startled.
Why was he comparing them?
He scratched his head, feeling confused by his own thoughts. As a straightforward and honest man, he wasn’t used to paying this much attention to a woman and felt embarrassed.
While he was lost in thought, Liu Piao returned after settling the bill. She glanced at Zhang Ermu briefly before saying, “We can head back now.”

Hearing this, Zhang Ermu stood up and nodded, “Okay.”
Without waiting for anyone, he strode out of the lobby. Watching his hurried steps, Liu Piao fell silent and sadness flashed in her eyes.
When the group returned to Xie Village, the sun had already dipped below the western horizon. Zhang Ermu first sent Liu Piao and Lin Muai back to their residence.
After helping Lin Muai settle into her bedroom, Liu Piao returned to see off her cousin and Wang Muyang.
At the entrance, only Zhang Ermu and Liu Piao remained. The two stood there, reluctant to part, but neither could find the words to break the silence. Each second passed slowly.
Seated on the driver’s bench, Zhang Ermu hesitated before speaking. “Ah Piao, we live close by. If you ever need help, it will be easier to find me. Your brother lives too far away.”
Liu Piao froze, her body stiffening at his words. Tears welled up in her eyes as she whispered, “Mumu, you are finally willing to talk to me.”
Hearing her use the intimate nickname, Zhang Ermu’s grip on the reins tightened as he replied aggrievedly, “Wasn’t it you who didn’t want to talk to me?”
Startled by his words, Liu Piao shook her head and replied, “I never… It’s you who has been avoiding me.”
The two of them were stunned by the other party’s words and looked at each other in silence.
After a long pause, Liu Piao finally broke the silence, “Mumu, I’m sorry for leaving without telling you. I understand if you hate me, but I never wanted to hurt you. What happened back then—”
