Dong Li thought for a moment before saying, “If you can’t get enough pig feed, let me know. I can ask my mother for some pig feed.”

Chen Jianmin was taken aback by the offer. Everyone in the village knew the pig feed formula used by the brigade was created by Lu Jueyu. Many had tried to uncover the recipe, but the Lu and Li families had kept it a closely guarded secret.

For Dong Li to suggest sharing some of their pig feed—even if not the formula itself—was a significant gesture. Though Chen Jianmin had no grand aspirations like starting a pig farm, raising a pair of wild boars that could reproduce would ensure his family and little bride always had meat to eat.

After a brief pause, Chen Jianmin asked, “Ah Li, will that trouble you?”

Knowing his friend’s tendency to overthink, Dong Li replied confidently, “Don’t worry. My parents treat me very well. If I ask, my mother will likely agree. But you must promise to keep this matter a secret.”

Chen Jianmin studied him for a moment before asking suspiciously, “Ah Li, why are you treating me so well?”

Then, as if struck by sudden realization, he took a step back and looked at Dong Li warily as he pointed at him with an orchid finger gesture, “Y-you are not in love with me, are you?”

Dong Li’s face darkened at the absurd question and his feminine act. He kicked Chen Jianmin in the backside and said angrily, “You really can spit nonsense! Even if you look like a girl, I would never fall for you.”

Although his appearance was ridiculed and his bottom was kicked by his friend, Chen Jianmin was not angry, and laughed instead. His joke had successfully lightened the mood.

Patting Dong Li on the shoulder, he said seriously, “Don’t worry, Ah Li. Even if you covet my beauty, my heart and body belong only to my Shushu.”

Too exasperated to respond to his nonsense, Dong Li chose to ignore his words and said, “I will ask my mother about the pig feed. Just make sure you show up after school to help build the greenhouse.”

“No problem,” Chen Jianmin agreed with a grin.

After wrapping up their secret conversation, Dong Li returned home while Chen Jianmin walked over to Chen Jianguo who was waiting for him not far away.

Seeing his brother walking over, Chen Jianguo asked, “Brother, what were you talking about?”

Patting his younger brother’s head, Chen Jianmin replied, “Something good. After school, come with me to Uncle Li’s house. When we help build the greenhouse, pay attention to how it’s done. You might need the knowledge someday.”

Understanding his brother’s intentions, Chen Jianguo felt a surge of gratitude in his heart and said with determination, “Brother, I understand.”

While the Chen siblings returned home in a good mood, Li Chenmo and his family were having breakfast together. As they ate, Dong Li suddenly said, “Mother, can I ask for some pig feed for Jianmin?”

Hearing this, Lu Jueyu asked with interest, “Did Jianmin plan to raise a pig too?”

“Well, he told me that the trap he dug near the wild boar’s nest managed to catch two boarlets. He plans to raise the boarlets before slaughtering them,” Dong Li explained.

When Lu Jueyu heard this, she nodded and said, “If that is the case, just get the pig feed from the pigpen.”

Dong Li nodded and asked again, “Mother, how much can he take?”

Lu Jueyu thought for a moment and replied, “Just take as much as he needs. If it’s not enough, he can come and get more for himself.”

When he heard this, Dong Li was surprised. He knew his mother would agree to his request, but he hadn’t expected her to be so generous.

He glanced at his father briefly before looking back at his mother and asking, “Mother, won’t that trouble you? It’s not easy for you to prepare the pig feed for our own pigs.”

“Don’t worry about it. No matter how much the boarlets eat, can they possibly finish all our pig feed?” Lu Jueyu said casually.

Hearing his mother’s words, Dong Li glanced at his father again. Before he could look away, his father said, “Just listen to your mother.”

Now that his father had spoken, Dong Li felt relieved and said, “Thank you, Mother. Thank you, Father.”

Lu Jueyu nodded and added, “It’s because Jianmin is your friend that I agreed to your request. If it were anyone else, they could forget about it.”

When he heard this, Dong Li felt grateful, nodded, and continued eating.

Dong Huang looked at her brother with confusion when she noticed his ears turning red. Thinking her brother might be unwell, she refilled his cup with soy milk and said, “Brother, you must eat well. Don’t get sick.”

Although Dong Li was baffled by his sister’s sudden attention, he still rubbed her head gently and said, “Okay.”

After they finished breakfast, the children left for school while Li Chenmo and Lu Jueyu went to till the soil of the vegetable gardens located in the backyard and fertilize it.

Taking advantage of the fact that no one was around, they used the machine from her space and quickly finished the work. When the sun rose higher, they heard the sound of bells.

Lu Jueyu quickly stored the machine back into her space and said, “Husband, I will go see who is coming.”

Li Chenmo nodded and said, “Okay.”

When his wife went to open the gate, he continued spraying the fertilizer.

As she opened the gate, Lu Jueyu asked, “Who is it?”

Standing outside the gate, Li Chenze said, “Third sister-in-law, it’s me.”

Opening the gate wider, Lu Jueyu saw her eldest and second brothers-in-law and said, “Eldest brother, Second brother, please come in.”

“Third sister-in-law, where is the third brother?” Li Lingyun asked.

“My husband is fertilizing the soil in the backyard,” Lu Jueyu replied.

Nodding to her, the two of them walked towards the backyard with familiarity.
