Seeing Houzi show genuine joy, Lu Jueyu’s eyes were full of curiosity, and she could almost smell the scent of gossip.

‘There must be something going on between Houzi and that beautiful doctor,’ she thought with a grin.

At that moment, Houzi and Gu Mengyao didn’t know a pair of eyes full of interest were watching them from a distance.

Standing next to the wall, Houzi handed the money back to the woman in front of him and said, “You keep this money.”

Hearing his words, Gu Mengyao frowned and said in a low voice, “Su Jun, if you don’t accept this money, I won’t dare ask for your help anymore. You deliver goods to my grandpa, and I pay you. That’s our deal.”

When Houzi heard this, he lowered his gaze to look into her eyes and said, “Mengyao, I thought we were friends.”

“Su Jun, if you treat me as a friend, then take this money. You have helped me and my grandpa so many times. If you don’t take this money, I would feel too embarrassed to even see you,” Gu Mengyao said.

Noticing her stubbornness, Houzi sighed inwardly. They stared at each other for a long moment before he finally took two bills from her and said, “Mengyao, I’m helping you as a friend, so I will only accept this amount. If you want to repay me, cook a meal for me or invite me out to dinner.”

When Gu Mengyao saw him finally accept the money, she smiled. Although he only took the cost of the goods, his acceptance eased her burden, and she agreed to his request, “Okay.”

“I don’t know how to cook, so let’s eat in the cafeteria,” she added with a smile.

Seeing her finally relent, Houzi smiled and asked, “What’s on the menu for today?”

“I heard the aunties are making sweet and sour pork, braised eggplant with tofu, and smashed cucumber salad. I don’t know where the hospital gets the fresh ingredients, but our menus are better than the state-owned restaurants,” Gu Mengyao replied as they walked to the cafeteria.

Houzi chuckled at her words and didn’t tell her that all those ingredients were bought from him. The taste was bound to be better than the state-owned restaurants because most of the ingredients came from Xie Village. Compared to other suppliers, his goods were of higher quality.

After the two of them left the lobby, Lu Jueyu smiled like an aunty. She wondered if Houzi would be able to woo that beautiful doctor. Love between two people with such a big status gap wouldn’t be easy but it would be intense and burn with passions.

While she was still mulling over the juicy gossip she had stumbled upon, Li Chenmo returned. Seeing his wife grinning foolishly, he raised an eyebrow. Squatting in front of her, he looked into her eyes and asked, “Wife, what are you thinking about?”

Hearing his words, Lu Jueyu snapped out of her thoughts and saw her husband was looking at her with a smile. She leaned closer and replied, “Husband, I saw Houzi with a beautiful doctor just now. I’m wondering what their relationship is.”

Seeing his wife’s gossipy expression, Li Chenmo lightly scratched her nose and said, “Don’t worry about his relationship. I have already registered your name. Let’s go.”

“Okay,” Lu Jueyu nodded.

Fifteen minutes later, the two of them were sitting on a bench outside the doctor’s office. Around them, several women were waiting for their turn. Some were alone, while others were accompanied by their mothers-in-law or sisters-in-law.

At that moment, Li Chenmo was the only man there, attracting a lot of gazes. While he remained calm and indifferent as he treated them like air, Lu Jueyu felt both proud and jealous.

She was proud that her husband was the best but jealous because several women were staring at him directly. If their stares were out of pure curiosity, she wouldn’t mind. The problem was that their gazes carried another meaning.

After enduring this for a while, Lu Jueyu finally exploded when she saw a young woman winking at her husband. Without warning, she stood up and took a step to block the woman’s gaze.

Everyone, including Li Chenmo, was startled by her sudden movement. Noticing that his wife was angry, he quickly stood, looked at her, and asked worriedly, “Wife, what’s wrong? Are you feeling uncomfortable?”

The moment she saw her husband’s concern, Lu Jueyu suddenly felt childish. Taking a deep breath, she looked at him and said aggrievedly, “Husband, it’s your fault.”

Li Chenmo was stunned by her words. There was no context to her words, leaving him at a loss for what he had done wrong. Though confused, he still admitted his mistake. “Wife, I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be angry and take a seat. You shouldn’t get too excited, or you will feel dizzy,” he coaxed her gently.

The young woman who had been sending ambiguous glances at him felt a pang of jealousy and gritted her teeth. Why hadn’t she met a man like this first? Why isn’t she the one enjoying this kind of treatment?

Lu Jueyu glanced at the woman and felt refreshed when she saw her gnashing her teeth. Raising her chin slightly, she thought, ‘No matter how you stare, this man is mine!’

After his wife sat down, Li Chenmo asked again, “Wife, what’s wrong? Why did you suddenly get angry?”

“It’s because you are too good-looking,” Lu Jueyu said.

Everyone, including Li Chenmo, was stunned by her sudden praise. They had assumed her husband had done something wrong, but it turned out she was just bragging about her man!

After a moment, Li Chenmo finally regained his composure and let out a chuckle. He had thought he had upset her somehow, only to learn she was teasing him. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at her playful remark.
