Chapter 1210: He Xieyu’s Intentions ( 2 )
Taking a deep breath, Grandpa Feng continued, “As for Ah Lin, you don’t need to worry. My wife and I will take good care of him. If he forgives you, we won’t stop you from seeing him.”
“But if he doesn’t want to, we hope you won’t force him or disturb his life. He has already endured enough pain from his parents’ matters.”
When he finished his words, He Xieyu interjected, “Uncle Feng, I understand your feelings and position. But my wife has her reasons for not coming back.”
“What reasons?” Grandma Feng demanded. “She didn’t even send a letter to her son. No one knew if she was alive or dead!”
“Do you know how other children bullied Ah Lin? They called him a parentless child, a bastard no one wanted. His mother abandoned him, and his father married another woman and had another son. When he almost died from a high fever, where were you?”
Tears streamed down Grandma Feng’s wrinkled cheek and she added sharply, “You and Ah Chen are the same! You call yourselves parents, but all you have done is hurt your son!”
“I think it’s better if neither of you ever comes back. At least this way, Ah Lin won’t learn that his parents started new families while he waited alone for five years!”
Ye Xinyue felt as if her heart had been stabbed by countless needles when she heard those words. She covered her face, crying, and said, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t know—”
Seeing his wife on the verge of collapse, He Xieyu quickly held her. He glared at Grandma Feng and said, “Aunt Feng, five years ago, my wife lost her memory in a car accident. She only remembered her name and Feng Lin’s name.”
“She just recently recovered some of her memories. The moment she remembered her son, we rushed here from another city. It took over forty hours of driving nonstop.”
“Yue’er couldn’t sleep or eat during the trip and has suffered greatly these past years. Yet, you didn’t even give her a chance to explain before condemning her. Isn’t that unfair to her?” he asked coldly.
Both Grandpa and Grandma Feng froze in shock at his words. Grandma Feng stopped crying, her face filled with disbelief, guilt, and worry.
Suppressing his frustration, He Xieyu continued, “We came today to see the child. I understand this is sudden, and it won’t be easy for Feng Lin to accept our marriage. But we love each other and have no plans to divorce because of his feelings.”
“Yue’er and I also have a two-year-old daughter. She isn’t here today because we didn’t want to make Feng Lin uncomfortable. We came not only to see him but also to ask if he would be willing to live with us in the city.”
As soon as he finished his words, Grandpa Feng rejected this idea instantly, “That’s impossible! Ah Lin is a Feng family child. He will stay with us as long as I’m alive.”
After a pause, He Xieyu said, “Uncle Feng, Ah Lin is smart. Living in the city would give him better opportunities and a better environment for his studies, which would benefit his future.”
“I’m a vice mayor and can provide him with access to good schools and a stable life. He will have everything my daughter has, and more if needed. I will treat him as my own son.”
Grandpa Feng remained silent for a long time before asking, “What’s your intention behind this?”
“I have no ulterior motives. He is my wife’s son, and I made a vow to accept her past, present, and future when I married her. That includes her son,” He Xieyu replied firmly.
The room fell silent as each person absorbed his words. After a long pause, Grandpa Feng sighed heavily and said, “I understand.”
The moment she heard her husband’s words, Grandma Feng turned to her husband, and asked with disbelief, “Old man, surely you are not considering letting Ah Lin go with them?”
Grandpa Feng gently held her hand and replied, “Wife, we shouldn’t decide his future. When Ah Lin returns, we will let him choose. If he decides to go with his mother, we must support him.”
“But he is just eight years old and he never leaves our side! What if he was bullied in the city? Who will protect him?” Grandma Feng asked.
“Our grandson is young but wise beyond his years. He understands his situation and knows what he wants. I believe that he will make the best decision for himself,” Grandpa Feng replied softly.
After hearing her husband’s words, Grandma Feng nodded reluctantly. Although she was reluctant, she knew what her husband said was true.
Seeing this, He Xieyu looked at Grandpa Feng with both appreciation and a hint of surprise. He hadn’t expected an uneducated villager to possess such wisdom and an open mind.
Before coming, he had prepared himself for potential conflict, anticipating unreasonable demands or stubborn resistance. He had even brought a significant sum of money, ready to use it to solve the problem if necessary. This peaceful outcome was far from what he had imagined.
Grandpa Feng met his gaze and said, “My house is small, and I’m afraid we won’t have enough room for everyone. I will talk to my grandson when he returns.”
Understanding the subtle dismissal, He Xieyu nodded and replied, “Uncle Feng, we are staying at a hotel in town. If there is any news or if you need anything, please come find us. We will return in two days to visit Feng Lin again.”
Turning to his wife, he added, “Yue’er, we should leave for now. Once the child has processed everything and calmed down, we will come back to see him.”
