Walking over to his wife’s bed, He Xieyu sat in the chair by her bedside and gently held her cold hand while asking, “Yue’er, how are you feeling? Are you still in pain?”

Hearing his voice, Ye Xinyue snapped out of her daze and turned to look at him. Seeing his pale face, she held his hand tightly and said, “Husband, I’m sorry for worrying you again.”

Clutching her hand, He Xieyu lowered his head and said in a trembling voice, “Yue’er, you scared me to death. If something happened to you, I don’t know how I could go on.”

The room fell silent after his words. After a while, Ye Xinyue spoke hoarsely, “Husband, I remember everything.”

He Xieyu’s body stiffened at her words, and he dared not meet her gaze, fearing he would see regret in her eyes.

Unaware of his thoughts, Ye Xinyue looked at the ceiling and continued, “Husband, that woman is the one who ruined my previous marriage. She drugged my ex-husband and trapped him, then used my family to force him into divorcing me and married her.”

When he heard this, He Xieyu’s mind was full of countless thoughts about his wife’s relationship with her ex-husband. After a long silence, he finally asked, “Yue’er, do you regret it?”

Ye Xinyue didn’t understand his question at first. But when she met his gaze, she saw the panic, fear, and anxiety in his eyes. Understanding her husband’s insecurity, she intertwined their fingers, and replied, “Husband, he has already in my past.”

“You are the one I love now, and that won’t change in the future. After I met you, I understand what it means to be loved and loving someone. I never regret marrying you. I’m sorry if my words or actions made you feel insecure,” she added softly.

Relieved by his wife’s words, He Xieyu said, “Yue’er, as long as you don’t leave me, nothing else matters.”

After a moment, he asked, “Do you want me to deal with her?”

Ye Xinyue thought for a moment before she nodded and said, “Husband, I hate her not because she ruined my marriage. Back then, I chose to divorce and leave my ex-husband.”

“I hate her because she pushed me in front of your car, accused me of stealing money, and caused me to lose my job. If not for her, Xiao Lin wouldn’t hate me, and I wouldn’t have missed so many years with my son.”

Listening to her, He Xieyu remained silent, though inwardly, he felt grateful to that woman. If not for her actions, he might never have met Ye Xinyue, let alone married her. Even if they had met by chance, her status as a married woman would have kept them apart.

But these thoughts were his alone. He knew that if he spoke them aloud, his wife would surely leave him. He was no gentleman or kind soul as she believed. From the moment he saw her lying on the road, his cold heart finally became alive. Since then, he resolved to make her his.

After so many years together, he wouldn’t let anything or anyone take her away—not even her biological son. If Feng Lin wanted to be with his mother, he would have to move to the city with them. There was no way he would allow his wife to live with her ex-husband’s parents.

Seeing her husband lost in thought, Ye Xinyue asked, “Husband, what are you thinking?”

Her voice pulled him back to the present. Smiling at her, He Xieyu said, “I was just thinking about your words.”

“Yue’er, I have already sent someone to follow that woman and investigate her. Since she caused you so much harm, I won’t let her go. Leave it to me and focus on getting better.”

Ye Xinyue trusted her husband’s capabilities and nodded. After a moment, she asked, “Husband, I’m worried she might harm Xiao Lin. Can you send someone to protect him?”

“Of course,” he agreed without hesitation.

Hearing his reassurance, Ye Xinyue finally closed her eyes. Exhausted, she soon fell asleep.

Watching her rest, He Xieyu whispered, “Yue’er, as long as you stay by my side, I will give you everything—even my life.”

For a brief moment, a cold, mad glint flashed in his eyes before it disappeared, leaving only a calm expression. When the IV drip was almost done, he went to see the nurse. He then went to the doctor to ask about his wife’s blood test.

Sitting in the doctor’s office, He Xieyu looked at the blood test form in his hand and was stunned. After a while, he came back to his senses and asked, “Doctor, what did you say?”

The doctor met his disbelieving gaze, smiled and repeated his words, “Congratulations, comrade. Your wife is already two months pregnant.”

He then placed a document in front of him and added, “This is a letter of recommendation for your wife. I have informed my colleagues about her condition. She is an excellent obstetrician and gynecologist, you can make an appointment to see her.”

He Xieyu nodded, took the letter, and replied, “Thank you doctor for your help.”

“This is what I should do,” The doctor said with a smile.

Since his wife was pregnant, he decided it was best for her to stay in the hospital. Tomorrow, he will take her to see the doctor for a prenatal checkup. This was their second child, and the pregnancy had been unexpected.

Due to the car accident, his wife’s health had been poor, and her body remained weak. The birth of their daughter had already been a miracle. Because of this, he never pressured her to have another child, even though his parents often urged him to have a son to continue their family’s lineage.

To him, whether it was a daughter or a son, as long as the child was his wife’s, he would love them unconditionally. When he learned about Feng Lin, he had even considered training the boy to be his heir if he was willing to follow his mother.
