The man opened the lock with his special tool and placed the document inside. After he locked it, he placed the painting back and left the study. Before leaving, he entered the bedroom and took two coats, a small box of gold, and some money.

Since Cai Bocheng was running away, even if the police came to investigate, they would only think that he was the one who took these things. Feeling satisfied, the man left the house and ran back to his home in the outskirts of the town.

As the night deepened, Yang Mengyao fell asleep on the couch as she waited for Feng Chen to come back, while her son was sleeping in the bedroom.

Under the moonlight, Cai Bocheng unlocked the door with a spare key and entered the house with light footsteps. He closed the door and saw the mother of his son was sleeping soundly.

Thinking about her reaction if she found out about the things he did, he took out the small bottle from his pocket. Squatting beside her, he parted her lips lightly and poured a little bit of the medicine into her mouth.

Yang Mengyao felt someone touching her lips and thought it was her husband. So, when that person fed her something, she licked the powder and muttered, “Husband, you are back.”

Cai Bocheng’s eyes darkened when he heard her words. When he saw her opening her eyes, he covered them with his palm. He leaned closer and whispered, “Shhh, just go back to sleep.”

Not long after, Yang Mengyao fell into a deep sleep. After he was sure that she wouldn’t wake up, Cai Bocheng carried her out of the house and went to a dark corner where a car was parked behind the building.

This car was provided by his supervisor and could only be used in case of emergency. He had already made up his mind to leave tonight, so he went to get this car before coming.

After he placed her in the back seat, he returned to the house and carried Feng Heng after he fed him some water mixed with the medicine.

Before leaving, he packed up some of their clothes, money, important documents, and identity cards. When he was done, he quickly drove to the city.

Not long after he left, He Xieyu was informed by the inn’s staff that there was a phone call for him. He put on his clothes and went to the lobby.

Picking up the phone, he said, “Hello.”

“Sir, Cai Bocheng left the town with Yang Mengyao and her son.”

“Inform our people in the city and let them intercept him at the pier. Don’t let him get on that ship. This time, we will catch all of them in one swoop,” He Xieyu said with a smile.

“Understood.”

After he hung up the call, He Xieyu had to change his plan. He went to wake up his adjutant, and the two of them left for the city in the middle of the night.

Early the next morning in Shan Village, the Wang family were busy packing things into their bamboo baskets and cotton bags. The entire family woke up before dawn to prepare the things they would bring over during their visit to the Lu family.

As they packed, Wang Erlang’s wife asked, “Mother, I brought back some sausage from my maternal family yesterday. How about we add some for Xiaoxiao?”

When Mother Wang heard this, she nodded and said, “Feng’er likes to eat sausage, you can add more.”

Wang Erlang’s wife nodded and generously added two kilograms of sausage into the bamboo basket.

Not long after, Wang Dalang entered the kitchen and said, “Mother, we are back.”

“Dalang, you are back. Did you get anything?” Mother Wang asked.

Wang Dalang was beaming with smiles as he placed the prey on the table and said, “Mother, we are lucky. After using the bait given by Xiaoxiao, we always get prey every few days. Today, we got three hares and two pheasants.”

Hearing this, Mother Wang smiled and said, “Go clean up the prey first. Leave two hares and we will give the rest to Xiaoxiao.”

“Okay!” Wang Dalang agreed readily and went to do his task.

While the entire family was busy, Father Wang sat on the balcony as he smoked his pipe. He squinted his eyes as he enjoyed his time.

Seeing her husband smoking while the entire family was busy, Mother Wang said, “Old man, can’t you stop smoking and help us?”

Father Wang looked at the bamboo baskets and said, “Old woman, are you moving away? Why did you pack so many things? The entire house is almost emptied by you ah.”

When they heard this, everyone lowered their heads to hold back their laughs while Mother Wang was angry.

She walked over, slapped her husband’s back, and scolded, “You old man, am I not allowed to send things to my daughter?”

Father Wang grimaced as he felt the pain on his back and replied, “Aiya, Wife, you know that’s not what I mean. Our in-laws take good care of Xiaoxiao. You don’t have to bring so many things, they already have it.”

“Providing for my daughter is their matter, sending things is my matter. No matter how many things Xiaoxiao has, having more won’t hurt,” Mother Wang said domineeringly.

Father Wang glanced at his sons and daughters-in-law as he said, “Even so, you should leave some at home ah. If you take away everything, what about our sons’ children?”

Mother Wang looked at her daughters-in-law and saw they said nothing.
