Chapter 1367: Village Meeting ( 1 )
While everyone was lining up to register their names, Li Chenmo and Song Li’s family were busy harvesting the paddy in the mountains.
Today, he had brought a cart and parked it at the mountain foothills. So, they only needed to transport the sacks there, and then use the cart to bring them to his house. This method saved a lot of time.
The task of transporting the sacks was given to Song Li, while Li Chenmo and Song Wen harvested the paddy. As for threshing and packing the rice into sacks, that was left to Song Min.
At noon, they took a break and had lunch together. Sitting under an old tree, Li Chenmo handed out waterskins and said, “Brother-in-law, my wife prepared some honey water for everyone to replenish our energy.”
Hearing this, Song Li didn’t refuse and said, “Brother-in-law, please thank my cousin for me.”
“Brother-in-law, we are family. There is no need to be so polite—it only makes us feel distant,” Li Chenmo replied.
Song Li chuckled and nodded, “You are right, it does sound too distant. Then I won’t be polite with you anymore, Brother-in-law.”
As they chatted, they took out the lunches their wives had prepared. While Zhao Ya could only make cornbread with pickles for her husband and sons, Lu Jueyu had prepared a lavish meal for hers.
There was steamed rice with pandan leaves, Mapo tofu, roasted fish, stir-fried pole beans with pork, braised mushrooms and bok choy with oyster sauce, and pork blood soup.
The soup was stored in a thermos, so when Li Chenmo poured it into bamboo bowls, it was still steaming.
Seeing the amount of food being taken out of the bamboo basket, Song Li asked with surprise, “Brother-in-law, can you finish all that by yourself?”
Li Chenmo chuckled when he heard his words and said, “Brother-in-law, my wife made this for all of us. I can’t eat it alone and it would be a waste if I didn’t finish it. So help me finish everything.”
After he said that, he handed them each a bowl of pork blood soup and said, “Brother-in-law, you can get the rice yourselves.”
Then he scooped a big bowl of rice for himself and started eating. Seeing how casually he treated them, Song Li nodded to his sons and took a sip of the pork blood soup.
The moment he drank the soup, his stomach felt warm, and the hunger pains lessened. With the discomfort gone, his appetite returned in full force. Without holding back, he scooped bowls of rice for his sons and himself and ate with delish.
After they finished eating, they rested under the tree and napped for half an hour before returning to their work.
At two o’clock in the afternoon, Dong Li came to the paddy field with his cousins and the Chen brothers to find his father.
Seeing them coming over, Li Chenmo asked, “Ah Li, why are you here? Did something happen at home?”
“Father, there is a village meeting at 4 o’clock, so I came to let you know and help you harvest the paddy,” Dong Li replied.
“Third Uncle, we came to help you,” Li Jingqian added.
Since there were less than two hours left to work, Li Chenmo nodded and let them join in. They had brought tools with them, so they got to work after the brief conversation.
With their help, they managed to harvest one mu of paddy that afternoon. Including the previous day and the morning’s work, they had already harvested a total of two mu.
When they finished packing up, they transported the sacks to Li Chenmo’s house before heading back to their respective homes.
Seeing how tired her husband was, Lu Jueyu brought him into the space so he could bathe and rest. When he woke up, they had some snacks together in the space before coming out again.
“Husband, it’s almost 4 o’clock. We should head to the village hall,” Lu Jueyu reminded him.
“Okay,” Li Chenmo nodded and brought out a long bench.
This time, the bench was bigger and longer than the one he had used previously. But still, he didn’t bring two separate chairs. That way, he and his wife could sit together.
When they arrived at the village hall, the place was already crowded with villagers. Those who came early had already taken seats near the stage.
Seeing this, Li Chenmo planned to find a seat in the corner to avoid people bumping into his wife. But before he could head that way, Li Chenze saw him.
Standing up, he waved and called out, “Third Brother, over here! We saved seats for you and your wife!”

“Husband, let’s sit together with your brothers and father,” Lu Jueyu said when she saw them.
“Okay.”
As they walked over, Li Chenmo’s body was tense, guarding his wife like she was a national treasure. Whenever someone walked a bit too close to her, he would glare at them.
Seeing the usually gentle and polite man suddenly glaring at them, some people were confused. But the experienced aunties and grandmas quickly understood after noticing how he held his wife’s arm.
“Aiya, this Chenmo—he is so nervous about his wife. If people didn’t know better, they would think she was made of porcelain,” Aunt Lin said with a laugh.
Hearing her words, the aunties around her laughed too, all casting knowing gazes their way.
What the couple didn’t realize was that most people only began to suspect Lu Jueyu was pregnant because of Li Chenmo’s overly protective behavior.
When they reached the area near the stage, Li Chenmo placed the bench down and helped his wife sit. Then, he sat beside her and greeted his father, “Father, how have you been lately?”
Father Li had already been informed by his daughter-in-law about Lu Jueyu’s condition.
So, when he saw his third son’s cautious behavior, he smiled and said, “I’m doing very well. It’s you who needs to pay more attention to your wife—don’t let her stay at home alone and accompany her more.”
