Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife - Chapter 496
Chapter 496: Tanghulu
“Those scumbags had affairs with young women instead of fulfilling their responsibilities as husbands, fathers and sons. They treat their wives as breeding tools and free servants,” Wang Muxiao added with disgust.
She looked at Pan Meijia and asked, “Meijia, do you still think what I did was wrong?”
Hearing her words, Pan Meijia felt that if it were her, she would rather know the truth than be deceived. So, she shook her head and said, “No.”
After hearing what she said, Wang Muxiao smiled, patted her shoulder and said, “It’s good that you understand. Let’s go back.”
At noon, rumors of Su Anna’s affairs with countless married men spread throughout the production team. While everyone was having a heated discussion about this matter, Lu Jueyu was making candied haws and candied fruits in the front yard.
She sat on the balcony and melted sugar in a pot using the brazier. While waiting for the sugar to be ready, she uses a thin bamboo stick to make fruit skewers. In addition to hawthorn, she also prepared strawberries, grapes, oranges, apples, and peaches.
While she was preparing the fruit, she noticed that Da Niu was peeking at her from the fence. She knew the situation in Da Niu’s home since Aunt Li and Li Sang came over to apologize and handed her money to compensate for her peaches.
Since Aunt Li and Li Sang kept apologizing to her, Lu Jueyu’s heart softened and she agreed to drop the matter. To her, it didn’t matter whether Chen Lina apologized to her in public or not. Everyone already knows what happened in the morning, so it didn’t make any difference.
After that incident, Chen Lina returned to her parents’ house and has not returned yet. She found that Aunt Li and her son had no intention of taking her back.
Lu Jueyu felt a little pity in her heart when she learned that Da Niu was treated so badly by Chen Lina. If she were born in the modern world, Da Niu would also be one of those successful career women.
Everyone thinks she is a timid girl, but Lu Jueyu doesn’t think so. Compared with her brother, she is indeed less talkative, but her eyes are sharp and calm. There was no trace of timidity in her eyes. Instead, it was filled with wisdom that is rare for a child her age. She didn’t know what she had gone through to have such eyes, but she was sure that Da Niu was a smart girl.
When Lu Jueyu saw her looking at her again for the nth time, she stood up and walked to the gate.
Opening the door, she saw Da Niu holding a bamboo basket outside and said, “Da Niu, aren’t you going to knock on the door? Come in quickly.”
After hearing her words, Li Shu breathed a sigh of relief. At first, she was worried that her relationship with the Li family would deteriorate because of her mother’s affairs. Fortunately, she worked up the courage to visit. Aunt Li is indeed different from her mother.
She handed the bamboo basket in her hand to Lu Jueyu and said, “Aunt Li, I’m here to thank you. These are some mushrooms I picked yesterday. Thank you for not reporting my mother to the authorities. I know what my mother did was a crime and I apologized to you.”
Lu Jueyu sighed after hearing this, knowing what would happen to Da Niu if her mother was reported. She accepted the bamboo basket and said, “Although your mother did not admit her mistakes, you and your family already apologized and compensated me. So, let’s drop this matter.”
“Da Niu, you came at the right time. I am making candied haws and need some help. I wonder if you can help me,” she added.
When Da Niu heard that she needed help, she nodded and said, “Aunt Li, what can I help you with?”
“Come inside first.”
After closing the gate, Lu Jueyu walked to the balcony, put down the bamboo basket, and said, “Da Niu, can you help me make fruit skewers?”
Looking at several baskets filled with fruits, Li Shu felt like her mouth was watering. She swallowed and said, “Aunt Li, leave it to me.”
Seeing her reaction, Lu Jueyu smiled but said nothing. With Da Niu helping her skewer the fruits, she only needs to concentrate on coating the fruits with melted sugar. As they worked, the air was filled with the aroma of fruit and the sweetness of sugar.
Noticing that Da Niu kept glancing at the candied fruits, Lu Jueyu picked up a piece of candied fruits. She handed it to her, and said, “Da Niu, help me taste it.”
Looking at the red strawberries covered with a layer of sugar, Li Shu hesitated. She knew that sugar was expensive and rarely available to villagers. Even her father, who earns 30 yuan a month, only bought some milk candies to give to her and her brother during the Chinese New Year.
“Da Niu, if you don’t take it, your aunt’s arm may be broken. Ah, my arm is so sore.” Lu Jueyu said.
Listening to her words, Li Shu knew that she said these words to make herself less burdened. So, she took the candied fruit and said gratefully, “Thank you, Aunt Li.”
Lu Jueyu nodded and urged, “Try it, see if we need to add more sugar and lemon.”
Although Li Shu didn’t know what a lemon was, she nodded and took a bite of the strawberry. As soon as she bit into it, the thin layer of sugar cracked and made a crisp sound.
Her eyes sparkled as she chewed. The combination of the sweetness of the sugar and the tartness of the strawberries was refreshing. The flavor spreads as the strawberry juice fills her mouth. As she swallowed the fruit and juice, a strange feeling spread throughout her body.
When she finished eating the candied strawberries, she felt refreshed. The constant pain she suffered since young and the fatigue of the body caused by heavy work are lessened.
