Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife - Chapter 720
Chapter 720: Night Travel
Recalling the smell and taste of the tonic wine he drank before, Doctor Xie was convinced that Lu Jueyu added this ginseng powder to the tonic wine.
When he was coming to this conclusion, Doctor Xie was very grateful to Lu Jueyu for her generosity. These should be the main ingredients for tonic wine, but she gave him all of it.
After a while, he pinched a little powder and mixed it with water. He poured only a third of a cup of water and after adding a pinch of ginseng powder, the water turned golden brown.
He put the jar in his pocket and picked up the cup. He believed that water needed to be stirred to dissolve it. But when he looked, the powder had dissolved, much to his surprise.
After coming back to his senses, he gently patted his granddaughter’s hand and said, “Xiao Shu, wake up and drink some water first.”
Li Shu slept lightly due to the pain on her body and woke up after being patted a few times. When she opened her eyes, she found her grandfather looking at her with a smile.
Doctor Xie took off the oxygen mask, helped her up, and put the cup to her lips, “Xiao Shu, drink up this water.”
Although Li Shu didn’t know what was in the water, she believed her grandfather and drank the water obediently. She thought the water must taste very bitter. But when she drank it, the water was surprisingly refreshing, with a hint of sweetness.
After she finished drinking the water, Doctor Xie helped her lie down and put the oxygen mask back on.
He patted her hand and said, “Go back to sleep.”
Li Shu drank water and felt warm in her body. The pain in her chest also eased a little. So, she closed her eyes and fell into a dreamless sleep after a moment.
Doctor Xie observed for a while. When he found that his granddaughter’s face was not as pale as before, he was relieved. She also seemed to be sleeping better than before.
He sat back in his chair, touched the jar in his pocket, and whispered, “These ginseng powders really work wonders. I should pay the girl later.”
While the world sleeps, Houzi walks out of the train carriage carrying a small bag on his back. Before leaving the train station, he looked at a young man and said, “I will be back before the train leaves.”
The young man nodded to him and said, “Brother Houzi, I will wait for you.”
Houzi nodded to him and quickly left the train station. Outside the train station, an old man waved to him.
When Houzi saw him coming, he said, “Uncle Zhou, why are you here? You should send someone here instead of coming here personally.”
Uncle Zhou smiled and said, “It’s rare for you to come here, how can I not come to pick you up personally?”
Houzi smiled and said, “Thank you, Uncle Zhou.”
Uncle Zhou patted the seat next to him and said, “Come up, we will be back before dawn.”
Houzi climbed onto the bullock cart and left the train station under darkness.
An hour later, they arrived at a small town. Uncle Zhou stopped the bullock cart and said, “I will wait for you here.”
Houzi jumped off the bullock cart and headed towards the old residential area. This area used to be a government employee dormitory. After the government relocated its employees, the dormitory building was used by factory workers and their families.
Houzi took out a piece of paper, read the address written on it, and walked towards the third building. When he reached the fifth floor, he knocked on the door of the sixth room.
Not long after, he heard Su Jian’s sleepy voice, “Who is it?”
“Ah Jian, it’s me,” Houzi said in a low voice.
As soon as the door opened, Houzi saw his cousin looking at him in surprise, “Brother, what are you doing here?”
Houzi entered the house and said, “I come to give you the travel permits. I have to go back before the first train leaves.”
After closing the door, Su Jian felt his sleep disappear due to shock. He poured a glass of water for his cousin and said, “Brother, you can send the travel permit using a post. Why are you here instead?”
Houzi drank the water and said, “The travel permit is only valid for ten days. Post taking too long.”

He took an envelope out of his bag, handed it to him, and said, “Here is your travel permit and some money. You must leave this town as soon as possible.”
Hearing this, Su Jian frowned and asked, “Brother, why do you seem to be in a hurry to get us out of here?”
“I got news that the government will arrest all black market middlemen. You and your friends are on the list. So, you have to leave before they start acting. I have made preparations and will wait for you and your family to arrive in Xie Village. No one will know about your participation in the black market there.”
Su Jian looked at her cousin’s expression and knew the seriousness of the matter. His cousin came alone, which shows how urgent this matter is.
“Brother, I understand. We will leave tomorrow morning.” Su Jian nodded.
Houzi stood up and said, “Okay, then I will wait for you in Xie village.”
Seeing him walking to the door, Su Jian asked, “Brother, are you leaving now?”
“Yeah, I can’t stay long. Someone’s waiting for me.”
“Brother, be careful,” Su Jian said worriedly.
Houzi patted his shoulder and reassured him, “Don’t worry.”
After leaving the house, Uncle Zhou sent him back to the train station. Before leaving, Houzi took out a small bottle of tonic wine from his bag and handed it to him, “Uncle Zhou, this is for you.”
Seeing that it was a small bottle of wine, Uncle Zhou took it and said, “You don’t need to bring me anything.”
