Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife - Chapter 886
Chapter 886: Engagement Token
Li Shu didn’t know why she had no memory of their agreement. However, with this stone pendant, she now understands why Chen Jianmin insisted on marrying her in that world.
With their promise and this pendant, it seemed impossible for her to distance herself from him. From his recent behavior, she knew what he was thinking.
Although both are only twelve years old now, in four or five years, their families will surely start looking for their potential spouses. So, he might be trying to get closer to her so that they can be together more easily in the future.
After coming to this conclusion, Li Shu let out a long sigh. She was in poor health and might die young. She couldn’t be selfish and become a burden to him.
She carried the stone pendant and walked outside. Standing on the balcony, she looked at Chen Jianmin, her eyes full of guilt and gratitude. After hesitating for a while, she finally called him, “Jianmin.”
After hearing her voice, Chen Jianmin raised his head and saw the stone pendant in her hand. In an instant, his eyes lit up and a smile appeared on his face.
“Shushu, it’s great that you still have the pendant,” he said with joy evident in his voice.
Li Shu hesitated for a moment and said, “Jianmin, since I don’t remember our agreement, I think…”
Before she finished speaking, Chen Jianmin interrupted her, “Shushu, even if you don’t remember, the stone pendant is proof of our agreement.”
He looked into her eyes and added, “Shushu, we are still young and have many years together in the future. We will grow up together, and when we reach the age of marriage, I will propose to you.”
“I have made a promise to you, so if you reject me, I will never get married in my life,” he added stubbornly.
Li Shu was at a loss after hearing what he said. She is only 12 years old. Although she told Song Yan that she planned to find a good man to get married to, this was just a casual statement and would not come true until a few years later.
So, when she saw Chen Jianmin being so stubborn about the promise he made when he was a child, she was speechless.
She sat on the balcony and asked, “Jianmin, we made a promise when we were kids. You shouldn’t take this promise seriously.”
Chen Jianmin’s eyes darkened when he heard her words. He lowered his head and continued washing clothes silently, refusing to comment on her words.
After a moment of silence, he finally said, “Shushu, you may think this is a childish promise. But for me, things are not that simple. Without you, I would have died long ago.”
“So, no matter whether you regard our promise as a joke or not, I will always keep my promise to you. I will only have one bride in this life, and that is you, Li Shu.”
After finishing speaking, Chen Jianmin began to work silently. He didn’t even look at her.
When Li Shu saw him like this, she knew he was angry which startled her. She obviously didn’t know him so well, so how could she tell that he was angry when he looked so calm?
Just as she was worrying about how to make him less angry, Doctor Xie came back from town. Seeing a boy washing his and his granddaughter’s clothes, he raised his eyebrows and said, “Xiao Shu, who taught you to let others wash our clothes?”
“Grandpa, I…”
Before Li Shu could explain, Chen Jianmin stood up and said, “Hello, Grandpa Xie. I insisted on washing the clothes. Please don’t blame Shushu.”
After listening to his words, Doctor Xie snorted and said, “Who is your Grandpa? Also, why do you have to wash our clothes?”
Chen Jianmin ignored the first half of the sentence and shamelessly imitated how Li Shu called Doctor Xie as he said, “Grandpa, Shushu is not feeling well. I saw that her face was pale, so I didn’t let her do the laundry.”
After hearing this, Doctor Xie walked quickly to his granddaughter and asked, “Xiao Shu, where do you feel uncomfortable?”
Li Shu glanced at Chen Jianmin and said, “Grandpa, it is thanks to Jianmin that I’m fine now.”
After hearing her words, Chen Jianmin finally felt better. She still acknowledges his concern for her.
Because of his granddaughter’s words, Doctor Xie’s impression of Chen Jianmin improved. He looked at him and said, “Thank you, for helping us. After washing the clothes, just stay for lunch.”
Hearing this, Chen Jianmin’s eyes lit up. He nodded quickly and said, “Thank you, Grandpa.”
Seeing the bamboo basket on the balcony, Grandpa Xie asked, “Xiao Shu, what is this?”

“Grandpa, this is a gift from Jianmin,” Li Shu said.
Doctor Xie was surprised when he inspected the contents of the bamboo basket. He frowned and asked, “Boy, what do you mean by giving my granddaughter so many things?”
“Grandpa, I promised Shushu that I would definitely bring her some food from the mountain. We are deskmates and she has helped me a lot. I just want to repay her kindness,” Chen Jianmin said.
Doctor Xie squinted his eyes and asked, “Xiao Shu, is what he said true?”
At this moment, Li Shu was in a dilemma. If she said it was not true, her grandfather would definitely be angry with Chen Jianmin. But if she said what Chen Jianmin said was true, then there was no way she could keep her distance from him anymore.
After thinking about the pros and cons, she finally nodded and said, “Yes, Grandpa. We… have known each other since we were children.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Chen Jianmin finally looked at her and smiled. With joy in his heart, he speeded up the washing process. In less than an hour, he had finished washing and hung up the clothes to dry under the sun.
