As soon as Lu Jueyu finished her words, Pan Meijia nodded and asked, “Jueyu, can I have some empanadas?”

“Sure,” Lu Jueyu replied.

Besides empanadas, she also packed some fried bananas, beef jerky, and jujube cake for her friend.

After they finished their lunch, Li Lingyun and Pan Meijia returned to their cabin. The moment they opened the door, they saw Xiao Si and Xiao Liu eating pancakes seriously.

“Thank you but we just finished our lunch,” Li Lingyun said, closing the door behind them.

Pan Meijia sat on her bed and handed a package wrapped in oil paper to the brothers while saying, “Here are some steamed buns and jerky for both of you.”

Xiao Si felt a bit embarrassed and said, “Thank you, sister-in-law. But we brought our own food.”

They have already eaten their food in the morning, how could they accept more?

Unlike his brother, Xiao Liu didn’t hesitate to take the package. Before Xiao Si could stop him, he opened it and saw six white steamed buns.

Initially thinking they were made from coarse grain, he didn’t think much of it until he realized they were made from white flour. After seeing the steamed buns, he quickly returned the package and said, “Sister-in-law, we can’t accept this. It’s too expensive.”

Seeing their refusal, Li Lingyun nodded to himself, appreciating their personality. Although they are poor, they are not greedy.

“If my fiancée gave it to you, then just take it,” he said casually.

Hearing this, Xiao Liu looked at his brother, unsure of what to do.

When Xiao Si glanced at his brother, he saw him eating with closed eyes, humming and nodding in delight. Though embarrassed by his brother’s behavior, Xiao Si had to admit the steamed buns were incredibly delicious.

Seeing their enjoyment, Pan Meijia asked with bright eyes, “How is it? Is it delicious?”

Xiao Liu nodded enthusiastically, raised his thumbs and said, “It’s very delicious! Sister-in-law, did you buy it just now?”

“No, it was made by my best friend. She is the best cook in our village. If she claims to be number two, no one will dare to claim to be number one. I’m sure that no one in the entire brigade can match her skills,” Pan Meijia said proudly, raising her chin.

Seeing his girlfriend act like a proud peacock, Li Lingyun chuckled and teased, “Jia Er, it’s my second sister-in-law who has great cooking skills. Why are you the one feeling proud?”

Pan Meijia shot him a playful glance and said, “It’s only right for me to be proud. After all, I’m the food tester and I also contributed to the recipe-making process.”

Hearing this, Li Lingyun laughed and looked at his girlfriend affectionately. He rubbed her head gently and said, “Mn, whatever my Jia Er said is right.”

As Xiao Si and Xiao Liu watched the couple, they suddenly felt the steamed buns in their hands were less delicious. To avoid losing their appetite, both brothers lowered their heads and focused on eating.

‘You two can flirt as much as you like and we will continue to eat. Out of sight, out of mind,’ they thought.

After finishing the steamed buns, they packed the beef jerky and stored it in their bags.

Seeing this, Pan Meijia asked, “Brother Xiao Si, why don’t you eat the jerky now?”

“Sister-in-law, we are full and will save the jerky for later,” Xiao Si replied with a smile.

Xiao Liu nodded, letting out a burp as he patted his defined abdomen in satisfaction.

Though he hadn’t starved since joining the military, this was the first time he had tasted such delicious steamed buns. Even feeling stuffed, he still smacked his lips, savoring the memory of the flavor.

With nothing to do during their long journey, they sat together and began chatting.

The next morning, Lu Jueyu and Li Chenmo woke up before dawn. Noticing that everyone was still asleep, Lu Jueyu used her bag as a makeshift cover and took out a wet towel from her space, handing it to her husband.

Although they could enter the space, they didn’t dare take any risks and had to endure the uncomfortable stickiness on their bodies. Fortunately, they were able to wipe themselves down with the wet towel, avoiding any unpleasant body odor and dirt from their sweat.

After finishing, Lu Jueyu put the wet towel back into her space and refilled their empty bamboo bottles with water from her space. Since the water was as effective as spiritual herb powder, she diluted it with the water brought by Pan Meijia and Father Li.
