Chapter 122: Chapter 122: What did you just call me?
Eric’s entire world turned upside down the moment the news of Winter’s marriage to Kalix went public. If that wasn’t enough, his informer—whom he had hired to investigate—confirmed the unthinkable: the man protecting Winter was none other than the father of her child.
Fury coiled in his chest like a viper, striking fast and hard. With a roar, he hurled his phone straight into the TV screen, shattering both in an explosion of glass and static. His rage knew no bounds, consuming him like wildfire as he grabbed whatever was within reach and sent it flying.
“Why, Winter? Why!” he bellowed, slamming his fist into the wall until his knuckles split open, blood smearing against the cracked surface.
He had suspected Winter was seeing someone—after all, every attempt to reach her had been blocked—but he never imagined this. The moment their relationship became public, it felt like the ground had been ripped from beneath his feet.
For so long, Eric had believed he could win her back once he had everything he desired. But now, it was clear—she had severed all ties with him.
He should have realized it when he found out she was working for J&K International. The signs were there, yet he had been too blind, too arrogant, to see the truth.
His thoughts tangled in a storm of disbelief and betrayal, but then something clicked. His eyes darkened, his pulse hammering with a new, chilling realization.
“So, even Agnes knew,” he muttered, voice laced with venom. “That’s why she found those photos… why she attacked Winter so recklessly. That stupid girl did it all to keep me from discovering the truth.”
A slow, menacing grin twisted his lips.
Eric had lost control, yet there was one truth he refused to accept—he could never have Winter.
But that didn’t matter. He wouldn’t accept it.
“No matter how much distance you put between us, Winter,” he seethed, his breath ragged with fury. “You will always be mine. I won’t let any man have you—not even the father of your child.”
His jaw clenched as determination burned through him like a fever. The world could turn against him, but he would not back down.
And Agnes—she had dared to lie to him, to keep him blind to the truth. She would pay for it.
One way or another, they all would.

Meanwhile, Sylvester was desperately trying to reach Kalix after the news of his marriage went public. It hadn’t just shocked the world—it had blindsided his family as well. None of them had seen this coming.
“Are you just going to keep ignoring his calls until he shows up at your door?” Winter asked lazily, watching Kalix with mild amusement.
Kalix, as always, remained unbothered. His grandfather’s outrage was expected, but in the end, Kalix knew he would be the one to win. Still, Winter couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy for the old man—he only wanted to protect his grandchildren.
“I already know what he’s going to say,” Kalix said with a smirk, casually scrolling through his phone. “I’m just saving myself the trouble of getting scolded.”
Winter shook her head in disbelief—there was no reasoning with him. Before she could say anything else, her phone began to ring.
Kalix shot her a look, his wariness sharp as ever.
“It’s Lilac,” she corrected, rolling her eyes at his overprotectiveness before answering the call.
“Congratulations, you two! Now this was a mind-blowing move to silence the outrage,” Lilac said, a laugh in her voice.
She had always known that, one way or another, her brother would convince Winter to marry him. But she hadn’t expected it to happen like this.
A flash marriage, sudden and shocking.
Still, she couldn’t deny—she was happy for them.
Kalix squinted slightly, his sharp gaze catching the faint pink hue dusting Winter’s cheeks.
“By the way, where’s my brother? And why isn’t he answering Grandpa’s calls?” Lilac exclaimed. “Isn’t he afraid the old man will barge into his house uninvited?”

“He’s saving himself from the trouble of getting scolded,” Winter muttered, stealing a glance at Kalix—only to find him staring at her, intently.
Her breath hitched.
She hadn’t even realized she was blushing at Lilac’s remark until she caught the way Kalix’s expression shifted. His lips curled into a smug smirk as he leaned in slightly, his fingers reaching up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
Winter flinched at the unexpected gentleness, her pulse quickening.
“L-Lilac, I’ll call you later,” she stammered, abruptly ending the call without waiting for a response.
She turned to face Kalix fully, eyes wide.
“What are you doing?” she asked, her voice barely above a breath.
But he didn’t answer.
Instead, his smirk deepened.
“What do you think I’m doing, wifey?” Kalix’s voice dropped to a husky rasp as he slowly buried his face in the crook of her neck.
Winter’s breath hitched, her fingers instinctively gripping his shoulders as she tried to push him away. “We can’t, Kalix.”
For a moment, relief washed over her when he paused. But it was short-lived.
Because instead of stopping, he nipped at the sensitive skin of her neck, sending a shiver down her spine.
“It should be our wedding night, Angel,” he murmured against her skin. “You wouldn’t want your husband to suffer… would you?”
His smirk was unmistakable, teasing yet possessive.
And Winter knew she was in trouble.
“You’re hurt, Kalix,” Winter said, her voice softer this time as she cleared her head of the distracting warmth spreading through her. Gently, she placed her hands on his chest, trying to stop him.
Kalix let out a low growl of frustration but reluctantly pulled back, his dark eyes simmering with unfulfilled desire.
“Is there any way I can get rid of this hurdle?” he muttered, annoyed.
Winter couldn’t help but chuckle. It was rare to see him like this—almost cute, though she doubted he’d appreciate the word.
“Yes, you can,” she teased, her lips curling into a knowing smile. “But only if you rest properly, husband.”
Kalix’s eyes flickered with amusement, and a slow, curious smirk stretched across his lips.
“What did you just call me?” he asked, his interest piqued, though his tone carried a hint of warning.
Winter’s smile widened. The way his eagerness flared up told her she had him exactly where she wanted.
“Husband,” she repeated deliberately.
In an instant, Kalix leaned in, stealing a quick peck from her lips.
“Yes,” he murmured against her mouth, his voice dripping with satisfaction. “Only I can be your husband.”
He kissed her again, slower this time, as if savoring the word. The happiness bursting in his chest was impossible to contain.
“I promise to give you a grand wedding, Angel,” he whispered.
Winter hesitated, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her face. A part of her wasn’t sure she was ready for that promise—not when the lingering fear of what the future held still clutched at her heart, refusing to let go.
Still, there was one thing Winter was certain of—no matter what, she wouldn’t leave him.

Meanwhile, inside the police station, the officers had finally managed to extract a confession from Kingstone. He admitted to falsely accusing Winter and dragging her into the mess, but he stubbornly refused to reveal the name of the person who had ordered him to do it.
“He’s still firm on keeping their identity a secret, Mr. Sean,” the officer informed him. “But I think we should believe that he’s telling the truth about his part in it.”
Since Kalix had insisted that the police handle the situation, they had been quietly searching for leads in the shadows. Yet, despite their efforts, they still hadn’t uncovered any clues—until now.
“Can I hear the recording?” Sean asked.
The officer handed him a flash drive containing Kingstone’s phone recordings, as well as his verbal confession.
“I hope this will be enough to release a statement that helps clear Mrs. Winter’s name,” the officer continued. “However, we’ll still be investigating the person behind the accident.”
Sean nodded in appreciation, thanking him before heading out. But as he stepped outside, he was surprised to see Gina waiting for him.
She had been by his side throughout the whole ordeal, diligently helping him and Lilac with the case. Yet, finding her here—outside the police station—was unexpected.
“How come you’re here?” he asked, genuinely surprised.
Gina studied him for a moment, her gaze softening. She could tell how exhausted he was from everything that had happened.
And yet, despite it all—despite the weight on his shoulders—he still managed to smile at her.
“Winter told me you were at the police station handling things with that Kingstone guy,” Gina said, stepping closer to Sean.
“So, did he confess?” she asked, her voice laced with curiosity and suspicion.
Sean exhaled, his brows knitting together. “He did. But he refused to disclose the names of the people who hired him.”
Gina frowned, her expression growing more wary.
“He claims he never met them in person—only spoke to them over the phone,” Sean continued.
“That’s strange,” Gina muttered, a hint of skepticism in her tone. “Who gets paid for a job without ever meeting their employer?”
Sean nodded, sharing the same doubt. Something about Kingstone’s story didn’t sit right.
Instead of putting all the blame on him, Sean decided to check the recordings the IT team had managed to retrieve from his phone.
Because if Kingstone wasn’t lying, then someone had gone to great lengths to cover their tracks.
