Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Now you’re blaming my son for everything?
“Why would you avoid answering my calls, Kalix?” Sylvester asked, his fuming gaze boring into his grandson. Kalix, however, remained composed—almost too composed for someone who had just shaken the entire world with his marriage announcement.
“Wasn’t it obvious enough? I already knew what you would say,” Kalix replied in a bland tone, making Sylvester’s scowl deepen.
“You dared to risk their lives with your reckless announcement. Do you even realize what that means?” Sylvester demanded.
He hadn’t expected Kalix to take such a bold step, yet the man had done exactly the opposite of what he had assumed.
Kalix’s expression darkened at the remark. He had already considered every possible consequence, yet hearing it thrown back in his face only fueled his frustration.
Sensing the tension between them, Winter decided to step in. “We’ve already considered everything, Mr. Andreas—”
“It’s Grandpa to you… now,” Sylvester cut her off.
Winter’s lips twitched as she fought back a smile.
Now that Kalix had married her, and since he didn’t seem to resent it, Sylvester saw no reason to deny her the title. She was family now—someone they had to protect with all their might.
“And you don’t have to defend him,” Sylvester added, cutting Winter off before she could say another word.
She stole a glance at Kalix and simply shrugged.
‘Maybe she shouldn’t meddle between the grandfather and grandson, who were like opposite poles of a magnet—constantly repelling each other.’
“I’ve already increased protection around them, and I will always be watching over them,” Kalix dismissed Sylvester’s concerns bluntly. He knew, however, that his grandfather wouldn’t let it go so easily.
“I think you should move in with us,” Sylvester suggested.
Kalix instantly refused. “I won’t let my wife and daughter live among people who despise them. Moreover, I still suspect one of the sisters was involved in what happened at the construction site.”
He wasn’t hiding anything from Sylvester anymore—not now that he had accepted Winter as his partner.
Sylvester pondered his words. He had already warned Rita by firing a bullet at her, and he doubted she would dare cross his path again. But if it wasn’t her… then did that mean—
“Diana?” he asked, watching as Kalix nodded in confirmation.
“But we still don’t have proof against her. For now, we’ve silenced the media outrage by releasing Kingstone’s confession. However, we still suspect it wasn’t just him—someone must have orchestrated it,” Kalix reasoned.
Sylvester was still trying to process Kalix’s words. Yet, after what Rita had attempted with Seren, he couldn’t bring himself to fully dismiss the possibility.
For years, he had overlooked their mistakes, choosing forgiveness time and time again. But if Kalix’s suspicions proved to be true this time, then it was time for him to take things seriously.
“How do you plan to uncover the truth?” he asked, breaking free from his thoughts.
Kalix sensed the weight in his grandfather’s tone and responded, “I have Sean and Stanley following the leads. However, I need you to avoid being obvious around them.”
Sylvester nodded in understanding. Maybe it was finally time for him to be fair—now that the situation was starting to turn against them.
After spending some time with Kalix and Winter, Sylvester left the penthouse. However, on his way out, he received a call from an unexpected number. His expression hardened before he answered solemnly.
His car soon came to a stop in front of a restaurant. Without hesitation, Sylvester stepped out and made his way inside, eventually reaching a VIP room where someone was already waiting for him.
“I thought you never wanted to talk,” Sylvester said as he took the seat across from the man.
“But you finally reached out to me, Byron Greyson,” he added with a mocking tone.
Hayes, who was also present, exchanged a glance with his boss. However, Sylvester’s calm demeanor gave him a sense of relief.

“I had to,” Byron replied, his tone laced with sarcasm. “After all, we haven’t exactly been strangers, have we? We share a past.”
Sylvester chuckled at his words. “A past? As what? Rivals?” he mocked.
Byron wasn’t offended by the remark. He knew Sylvester wasn’t the type to dwell on petty grievances.
“It’s been years, Sylvester. You need to get over the fact that I happened to date your ex—the one you couldn’t move on from.”
Hayes choked on his drink at the remark, earning a sharp glare from Sylvester.
“That’s not funny, Byron. You knew I wasn’t over her, and yet, just to get back at me, you dated her,” Sylvester snapped.
Byron rolled his eyes. “Such a pathetic bastard, still dwelling on things that are long gone.”
Sylvester’s expression darkened, his amusement vanishing in an instant. His gaze turned sharp, his tone cold.
“And what about the accident you orchestrated—the one meant to kill my son and daughter-in-law?” he shot back.
This time, it was Byron’s expression that turned grim.
“You really believe I would stoop that low, Sylvester? Martin was my business partner and a good friend. Why the hell would I try to kill him?” He asked, his frustration evident.
“Then explain why you suddenly ended the partnership with Martin—and that too right before the accident. Why keep the deal confidential and never announce it?” Sylvester demanded, his voice laced with accusation.
For years, he had believed Byron was the one behind the crash that took his son and daughter-in-law’s lives. But the lack of evidence had kept the cops from ever proving it.
“That’s because Martin wanted me to terminate the deal!” Byron exclaimed.
Sylvester let out a dry chuckle. “Now you’re blaming my son for everything?” he scoffed, still unwilling to believe his words.
Byron knew Sylvester wouldn’t trust him so easily. But that was the truth. It was only after Martin was gone and he focused on building his own business that he realized—behind the scenes, Sylvester had never stopped holding him accountable for his son and daughter-in-law’s deaths.
Sylvester, on the other hand, would never believe him. The day he lost his son and daughter-in-law, he remembered Richard calling him—mentioning Byron—just moments before he was shot in the spine.
