Chapter 129: Chapter 129: It’s her
Lily sat on the couch, deep in thought, still trying to process Rita’s unexpected visit. The door creaked open, snapping her out of her daze. Gina walked in.
“Did Rita come to see you?” she asked, taking Lily by surprise.
So she saw her leaving…
Lily let out a heavy, exhausted sigh and leaned back. “Yes,” she replied, her voice tired.
Gina frowned and took a seat beside her. “Why?”
She already knew Lily harbored strong feelings against Rita. Despite Rita’s seemingly friendly demeanor, Lily always kept her distance, detached and cold.
Lily closed her eyes, resting her head against the edge of the headrest. Her mind swirled with the remnants of their conversation.
She still had no idea how Rita had managed to find her address. But what followed after her arrival was what truly caught Lily off guard.
Rita wanted to mend their relationship—to be friends again, like they used to be. But was that even possible? After all, Rita had already severed their bond the moment she betrayed her.
Gina waited patiently for Lily to say something, but her silence lingered. It made Gina’s chest tighten with concern. She had no idea what the true story between them was, or why Rita had suddenly reappeared. But seeing Lily so guarded, so resistant, only confirmed one thing—she wasn’t ready to talk. Not yet.
“Did I ever mention that we were friends once?” Lily finally spoke, catching Gina off guard. “Until she decided to backstab me in the cruelest way.”
Gina blinked, surprised by the sudden confession. Lily’s eyes flicked toward her, watching her reaction with a strange calmness. A bitter chuckle escaped Lily’s lips as she sat up straighter.
“And now,” she said, voice sharp with disbelief, “she wants me to forgive her. Pretend like everything she did never happened.”
Gina shook herself from her daze. “So… you’ve known her all this time?”
“Yes.” Lily nodded, her tone flat. “But I never thought I’d have to cross paths with her again.”
Gina could feel the restraint in Lily’s voice—the way she carefully chose her words, avoiding the full story. She wasn’t ready to bare it all, and Gina respected that.
Still, she had to ask. “And what are you thinking? Are you going to forgive her?”
Lily fell quiet again, turning the question over in her mind. She had always carried herself with dignity and strength. And when someone betrayed her trust, forgiveness was not something she handed out lightly.
But this—Rita showing up out of the blue, persistent and eager to rebuild what she’d broken—it didn’t sit right.
There was something off about her timing. Something calculated.
“Rita,” Lily said slowly, her eyes narrowing, “isn’t the type to crawl back unless she has a reason. And knowing her… she wouldn’t come to me unless she thought I was a threat to her perfect little married life.”
Her voice dropped to a quiet scoff. “She’s not here to make amends. She’s here to protect herself.”
Lily had been betrayed by Rita once, and she wasn’t the kind of woman to make the same mistake twice.
So even if Rita begged for her forgiveness, it was the last thing Lily was willing—or able—to give.

Roger was still at his desk, long after the entire building had emptied. The silence of the office did little to quiet his mind, which kept circling back to Lily—and her cold indifference toward him.
That evening, after they’d left the hospital, she had made her feelings painfully clear. She didn’t want to share the same space with him. She had every intention of walking away, of putting distance between them.
But he’d stopped her.
He didn’t know what had come over him in that moment—maybe it was panic, maybe it was possessiveness—but he’d threatened to kiss her. A reckless, impulsive move that only made things worse.
She hadn’t left. But she’d drawn a thick, unmistakable line between them. One he wasn’t sure he could cross again.

That silence from Lily felt like the harshest slap—an unspoken reminder of exactly where he had gone wrong.
“Are you purposely avoiding home and burying yourself in work?” Sean’s voice cut through the stillness as he stepped into the room.
Roger snapped out of his thoughts, visibly surprised by his brother’s unexpected visit. Sean rarely came by unless Kalix had stirred something up, which made his presence even more unusual.
But now that he was here, Roger realized this visit wasn’t just about checking in. It was about something deeper—an attempt to reconnect, to make up for the time and closeness they had lost due to their busy schedules.
Roger chuckled as he watched Sean settle into the chair across from him, his eyes glinting with amusement at the sarcastic remark.
“And you’re here to tell me I should be at home instead of drowning myself in work?” he muttered.
Sean shrugged casually. “Not really. Just came to check on you.”
Roger arched a brow. “So what do you want to know?”
Sean leaned forward slightly, his tone calm but pointed. “Just something you’re trying real hard to hide from everyone.”
Roger’s expression faltered, the faint smile on his lips slipping for a second before he masked it again.
“I’m not hiding anything,” he said flatly, brushing off the comment as he turned back to his work.
But Sean wasn’t convinced. He knew his brother too well—and the sudden decision to divorce his wife hadn’t gone unnoticed.
“By the way, I think I just saw Rita near Gina’s place. Not exactly sure—it was just a quick glimpse of her leaving the residential building.”
As soon as Sean said those words, Roger’s expression hardened—a clear indication that he’d been expecting to hear something like this.
But beneath that stern exterior was a flicker of knowing—a quiet recognition that revealed he understood the storm brewing inside him.
“Are you sure the reason you’re divorcing your wife is really because she tried to harm Seren?” Sean asked, his voice steady.
This time, Roger’s expression faltered.
“Because I can clearly see that’s not the real reason. It’s her, isn’t it?”
