Chapter 151: Chapter 151: You’ll end up hating me
“Don’t you find it suspicious, Winter? Eric never told you anything about his family. All he did was fall for you, act like he was worthy of your time, and then—just like that—he turned his back on you,” Gina said, trying to make sense of it all.
“And that’s exactly why I believe he came into my life with more than just one motive,” Winter concluded, her words bringing a flicker of relief to Gina.
“Right,” Gina agreed, her tone firm but reassuring.
“And now I want you to find out what it is. Maybe he’s up to something you never even considered,” Gina pressed.
Winter could agree with that. But the real question lingered — what was it?
“Kalix tried to dig into Eric too, back when he was stalking me. But even his team came up empty. They couldn’t track anything,” Winter added.
Gina believed her, especially since she had seen it herself — the details vanishing in the blink of an eye, leaving no trace behind.
“I know,” Gina murmured.
Winter’s brow arched at her response, sensing something unsaid.
Realizing what she’d just let slip, Gina hesitated, but there was no point in hiding it. Winter would eventually find out anyway.
“That’s because the guy who works for Kalix… just so happens to be a friend I’ve known since college,” Gina admitted.
Winter studied her closely. There was a subtle shift in her tone — something that sounded more like concern than casual mention.
“And why did mentioning him make you sound so… distressed?” Winter asked, unable to ignore it.
Gina hadn’t expected her to catch on, but now that she had, there was no point holding it in.
“I don’t know,” Gina sighed. “But I feel like his closeness is… creating distance between me and Sean. Yesterday, I was out with Niko for some work, and he happened to spot Sean nearby. But when I turned to check, Sean was gone. And ever since, I’ve barely heard a word from him.”
Winter tilted her head slightly, her expression softening. “Okay… so it sounds like your situation is finally moving forward,” she nodded in quiet understanding.
“I think so,” Gina exhaled, brushing a hand through her hair. “But now I’m stuck wondering if I should reach out — if I should convince Sean that Niko is just an old friend and nothing more.”
Her voice faltered at the thought, still weighed down by the possibility that Sean had misunderstood the situation entirely.
“Suddenly, I feel oddly proud to be giving advice to the Gina Morris,” Winter teased, her lips tugging into a small smirk.
Gina furrowed her brows, unimpressed. “I don’t remember asking for your help.”
“But I’m offering it anyway,” Winter replied, the teasing fading into genuine concern now that she realized just how serious Gina was about Sean.
“Why don’t you use this as an opportunity to make Sean a little jealous?” Winter suggested, arching a brow.
But Gina shook her head almost instantly. “No way I’m doing that. That day, he barely gave me a second to breathe—”
Her words trailed off, the memory still a little raw and lingering. The look on Sean’s face, the distance in his eyes — it wasn’t something she wanted to toy with.
Winter arched her brow in amusement, her lips curling into a teasing grin.
“So that’s how Sean ended up with that mosquito bite, hmm?” she teased, nodding knowingly.
Gina’s face flushed deep red, the embarrassment so intense she felt like burying herself right there.
But then the thought hit her — why should she feel embarrassed? After all, Sean had left her with swollen lips too. That made them even.
Winter continued to tease her for a little while longer before the two finally parted ways.
“I’ll talk to Kalix about it,” Winter assured her gently. “And as for you — whenever you feel ready to talk, I’m all ears.”

The sincerity in her voice caught Gina slightly off guard, but after a brief pause, she nodded in agreement.
Gina was just about to slip into her car when another vehicle rolled slowly through the parking lot, catching her attention. Her heart skipped a beat as the car came into view.
It was Sean’s.
Gina froze, watching as Sean stepped out of the car. The moment their eyes met, her heart skipped a beat.
Her mind drifted back to that evening — sitting inside his car, the two of them sharing ice cream straight from each other’s lips, lost in the kind of closeness that felt too perfect to last. But the memory quickly soured as another thought crept in — the chances of him seeing her with Niko and the silence that followed ever since.
And despite Winter’s advice to let him stew a little, Gina did the exact opposite. Without thinking twice, she walked straight toward him.
“Why haven’t you been answering my calls?” she asked, stopping right in front of him.
Sean looked at her, his expression unreadable, his eyes lingering on hers for a moment before he finally spoke.
“Should I?” he asked coldly. “Because as far as I can tell, you’ve been pretty busy.”
His words felt like a stab to the heart, sharp and unflinching. Gina swallowed hard, desperate to clear the air.
“Niko and I are just friends,” she blurted, her voice soft but earnest.
But Sean cut her off before she could say anything more.
“Did I ask for an explanation?” His voice was calm, but the weight behind his words made her flinch. “Then why do you keep trying to justify yourself, Gina?”
He folded his arms across his chest, staring at her with quiet intensity.
“I know you need his help,” he added, his voice quieter now, tinged with something that sounded a lot like hurt. “And I’m not the person you feel the need to share things with. I get it.”
His words settled heavy in the air, and guilt wrapped around her like a tightening rope. She had her reasons for keeping things to herself, but she hadn’t realized just how much it had been eating away at him.
“So you don’t have to explain anything to me,” he concluded, his tone final and distant.
Gina stood frozen, struck by the coldness in his voice and the way his words cut straight through her. Before she could gather the courage to say anything more, Sean stepped back and spoke again.
“I’ve got some important work.”
And just like that, he walked past her, leaving her standing there, watching his retreating figure disappear, her chest tightening with sadness.
“You’ll only end up hating me if you ever get to know the real me, Sean,” she whispered to herself, her voice laced with quiet pain.
The truth of her life — the parts she always kept buried — had a cruel way of holding her back from chasing happiness. And now, standing there alone, she felt the sinking weight of that truth. The one person she truly liked… she was losing him too.
