Chapter 152: Chapter 152: What are you doing here
Meanwhile, David had used all his connections to track down the person who had sent him the envelope. To his surprise, there was no trace of the sender — not even in their surveillance footage.

“That’s strange. How can someone deliver an envelope and not leave a single trace?” he muttered under his breath.

Dorothy, who was in the same room, eyed him sharply.

“I think this is a well-planned scheme against us,” she said firmly. “And whoever’s behind it is playing it safe.”

Dorothy had been nothing but supportive of David. Determined to help track down the sender, she had interrogated the entire staff, questioning each of them about anyone suspicious who might have delivered the envelope. But to their dismay, no one had seen or heard anything useful.

Suddenly, a thought struck David, and his gaze flicked toward Dorothy.

“Where’s Agnes? I hope she isn’t out there doing anything reckless,” he voiced his concern aloud.

He knew his daughter was a magnet for trouble, and deep down, he suspected that whatever mess they were now entangled in likely traced back to her.

Still, no matter what problems Agnes brought to their doorstep, he had always managed to cover for her. But this time — with this looming, invisible threat — he felt the stakes were different. He would have to be more cautious and move quickly to hunt down the person who dared to double-cross him.

Meanwhile, his words stirred a flicker of concern in Dorothy. It had already been a few days since Agnes had spent any real time at home — most of her hours were now tied up with Eric.

Not that Dorothy had objected openly, but seeing Agnes out and about so frequently had made her increasingly cautious.

“Don’t worry,” she said, trying to ease David’s concern. “She won’t do anything reckless. I have her under control. But there’s a bigger problem — Dianna.”

She paused, catching the subtle shift in David’s expression the moment the name left her lips.

“She’s been grilled by the cops every single day,” Dorothy continued, her tone more serious. “I doubt she’ll be able to hold out much longer.”

David’s brows furrowed, the news catching him off guard. It was surprising enough that Kalix had managed to get Dianna into police custody for her illegal dealings with Kingstone. So far, the girl had stood her ground, refusing to budge under pressure.

But after hearing Dorothy’s warning, he knew there was no guarantee how long Dianna could hold out. Everyone had a breaking point — and once she cracked, it was only a matter of time before everything spilled out.

“Don’t worry, we’ll get rid of her soon enough,” David said, his voice low but edged with caution. “But we need to make sure she hasn’t disclosed anything about us to anyone. If that’s already happened, then we’ve got a real problem.”

Dorothy nodded in quiet understanding. They had grown too comfortable, relying on the fact that Dianna had chosen to trust them — but if she broke, even for a moment, everything would eventually turn against them.

Later that evening, after work, Kalix and Winter drove to the hospital to have his wounds redressed and check on his recovery progress.

“We’ll continue the therapy for now. As for the wound, it’s almost fully healed,” the doctor said with a reassuring nod.

Winter and Kalix exchanged a quick glance while the doctor listed a few more instructions before wrapping up the appointment.

By the time they were back inside the car, Kalix was grinning from ear to ear.

“Did you hear what the doctor said?” He asked, leaning his head against his knuckle, his arm resting casually on the car’s windowsill.

The smile playing on his lips was mischievous, almost cunning, as he side-eyed her.

“He told me to stay active,” he added, his tone dripping with playful intent.

Winter shot him a look, her voice sharp but clear. “That was about your shoulder, Kalix. Since your bone’s healed faster than expected, he wants you to stay active—meaning move your arm, not whatever you’re thinking.”

But Kalix wasn’t so easily swayed. He leaned in closer, his lips near her ear, his breath warm against her skin.

“And do you know how I plan to stay active?” He whispered, his eyes locking onto hers as she slowly turned to meet his gaze.

“How?” she asked, her voice barely steady as she swallowed the growing lump in her throat.

His lips curved into a slow, devilish smile.

“By going inside you, my wife.”

Winter’s lips parted in exaggerated shock, but the soft rumble of laughter rising from Kalix’s chest only made her press her thighs together, trying to steady herself.

“We still haven’t celebrated our wedding night, my dear wife,” he murmured, his voice low and teasing.

Those words sent a ripple of shivers down her spine. They had shared intimacy before, but the real night — the one that would seal everything between them — was still waiting. The thought alone pulled her back to that night five years ago, the night that had left its mark so deeply on her that even now, the memory stirred her heart and made her pulse quicken.

Unable to hold his intense gaze any longer, Winter turned her head away, the warmth creeping up her neck and blooming across her cheeks like a tingling breeze.

Kalix noticed, a satisfied smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. Slowly, he leaned back, giving her the space he knew she needed. He loved how easily his shameless words could make her blush. That blush was all the proof he needed — she was his.

His wife. His angel. His everything.

It took Winter a moment to collect herself, pushing past the lingering shyness before finally turning to face him again.

“There’s something you need to know about Eric,” she said quietly.

The mention of that name was enough to darken Kalix’s mood. His expression shifted, his voice dropping into a displeased tone.

“Go on. I’m all ears.”

Winter sighed, noticing the sharp edge in his reaction, but she pressed on. Carefully, she told him everything Gina had confided in her.

When she finished, Kalix’s brow furrowed, and the first thing that left his lips was, “Gina knows Niko?”

“Yes, he’s an old friend of hers. But the real question is, who’s the man Eric is secretly meeting, and what’s their connection?”

Kalix sat quietly, turning her words over in his mind. Everything she said made sense, and the more he thought about it, the clearer the pattern became. All the loose ends seemed to point to one possibility — Eric wasn’t acting alone. There had to be someone else, someone working with him behind the scenes.

And whoever that person was, they weren’t just helping Eric stay out of trouble — they were smart enough to wipe his tracks clean, covering every move, every deal, and every slip-up.

Kalix’s jaw tightened at the thought. This wasn’t just some petty betrayal. It was calculated, deliberate, and dangerously well-planned.

“We need to find out who’s backing him,” Kalix muttered, his tone sharp with resolve. “Because whoever it is, they’ve been one step ahead of us this entire time.”

Winter couldn’t deny it — she fully agreed with Kalix. Someone was definitely helping Eric, and the only person who seemed to know anything was Gina. But a part of her feared that Gina wasn’t ready to talk, or worse, that she was holding back more than she let on about her connection with that person.

The real question lingering in Winter’s mind was, ‘Was Gina willing to tell them the truth? And if she was… when?’

***

After her encounter with Sean, Gina had been weighed down by his words — haunted by the coldness in his voice. The feeling of being pushed away clutched at her heart, leaving behind a dull, lingering ache.

She had never seen Sean so distant, so cold, and that alone left her stranded in a sea of regret.

It had been some time since she returned from meeting Winter, but ever since then, her thoughts had been consumed by Sean — and the way he had refused to place the blame on her. His calm detachment had hurt more than any harsh accusation.

But one thing was clear from what he said: Niko had been right all along. He had truly seen Sean back there, even if Sean hadn’t wanted to admit it.

Unable to silence the whirlwind of thoughts in her head, Gina grabbed her keys and drove straight to J&K Internationals.

The entire way there, she kept calling Sean — but each time, the phone rang endlessly without an answer. Her hope dimmed with every unanswered call until she finally reached the main office on the twentieth floor.

Her eyes swept the room anxiously, remembering the security guard had assured her Sean was still inside the building. But despite her desperate search, he was nowhere to be found — not at his desk, not in his usual spot.

Her heart sank. She had worked up the courage to confront him, to ask him not to push her away. But his absence alone left her feeling even more hollow.

Lowering the phone from her ear, she ended the call with a quiet, defeated sigh — until a familiar voice cut through the silence.

“What are you doing here?”

Gina’s head snapped up, her glassy eyes locking onto Sean. The moisture clouding her vision blurred his face for a moment, but the sharp ache in her chest softened the instant she saw him standing there.

Shock flickered across her features, but the unreadable look in Sean’s eyes tugged at her heart, forcing the question from her lips.

“Why weren’t you answering my calls?” she asked, her voice barely rising above a whisper.

The thought of Sean completely shutting her out had been gnawing at her, twisting deeper than she ever expected it could. But now, standing face-to-face with him, some small piece of her finally felt at ease — even if his silence still hung heavy between them.

Sean furrowed his brows, slipping a hand into his pocket and pulling out his phone — only to see several missed calls from Gina lighting up the screen.

“I—I must’ve put it on silent. That’s why I didn’t—”

But before he could finish, Gina closed the distance between them, cutting off his words as she captured his lips in a sudden, desperate kiss.

Sean staggered back, the force of her kiss pressing him against the hard surface of the door. For a moment, he froze — but then his hands found her waist, steadying them both as he returned the kiss with the same raw, aching longing that had been eating away at him.
