Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Pregnant

The next morning, while Gina was having breakfast with Lily, her phone buzzed sharply on the table.

Lily’s gaze flicked to the screen—and immediately, her brows knitted together.

“Gynic’s Clinic?” She read aloud, her voice dripping with suspicion as her sharp eyes shifted to Gina’s calm expression.

“Relax,” Gina said, waving a hand casually as she reached for her coffee. “I’m not pregnant, if that’s what you’re thinking.”

But Lily didn’t budge. She leaned in like a hawk, her gaze laser-focused and full of persistent curiosity—the kind only a woman who had spent a lifetime worrying about everyone else could master.

“If you’re not pregnant,” Lily said slowly, suspiciously, “then why is a gynecologist’s office calling you at eight in the morning?”

Gina sighed, setting her cup down with a soft clink. “Someone’s trying to sneak something past me, that’s all. It’s nothing scandalous.”

Still, Lily hovered like a dark cloud, her wrinkled forehead deepening with every second of silence. Her eyes practically slitted with scrutiny, silently daring Gina to withhold the truth.

She knew Gina well—knew that while she flirted shamelessly and enjoyed her fair share of admirers, when it came to sex, Gina was surprisingly guarded. Careful. Sacred about it.

In all the time Lily had known her, Gina’s relationships were fleeting, short-lived flares that hardly lasted long enough for anyone to leave a real mark.

“You’re not the type to be careless,” Lily muttered under her breath, though loud enough for Gina to hear. “But you are the type to keep secrets.”

Gina smirked and leaned forward to swipe a piece of toast from Lily’s plate. “And I’m the type to mind my own business without a Greek chorus judging me over coffee.”

Lily harrumphed but didn’t push further—at least not yet.

Her eyes, however, stayed pinned on Gina like a bloodhound not ready to give up the scent.

Gina knew it. But right now, she had bigger things to deal with.

She picked up her phone and answered the call.

Across the table, Lily tried—and failed—to pretend she wasn’t straining to listen.

“Thank you so much, Lene,” Gina said after a few quick exchanges, her tone light but her smile sly as she ended the call.

Lily was practically bouncing in her seat by the time Gina set the phone down. “Will you please tell me what’s going on before I die of curiosity?”

Gina heaved a theatrical sigh, adjusting her posture like she was preparing for a long story.

“Fine,” she said, holding up a finger. “But you have to promise not to turn this into a whole production.”

Lily crossed her heart dramatically.

Satisfied, Gina leaned in. “I caught Agnes sneaking out of the gynecologist’s office a few days ago,” she revealed, her voice low and full of juicy satisfaction. “She looked like she wanted to vanish into thin air when she saw me.”

Lily’s mouth dropped open, but Gina pressed on.

“Naturally, I couldn’t let it go. So I poked around a little,” Gina said with a mischievous glint in her eye.

“At first, the receptionist wouldn’t tell me anything, strict confidentiality and all that. But… let’s just say a generous ‘donation’ to the office supply fund helped loosen a few lips.”

Lily gasped, scandalized and delighted all at once.

“Gina!”

Gina shrugged, unrepentant. “Desperate times. Anyway… turns out Agnes is pregnant.”

Lily blinked, stunned. “Pregnant?”

“Yep. And she’s trying to keep it under wraps.” Gina arched a brow, her mind already racing with possibilities. “Which begs the real question, Lily— why?”

Lily sat back in her chair, looking both horrified and wildly intrigued. And Gina, feeling far too pleased with herself, knew that this was just the beginning.

Because secrets like that? They never stayed buried for long.

Winter awoke from a deep, restful sleep to find the bed beside her empty. The soft sheets still held the lingering warmth of Kalix’s body, but he was nowhere to be seen.

The sudden emptiness confused her. It wasn’t like him to just slip away without a word, especially after the night they’d shared. She thought she had become the center of his world, but now she was left alone, lying in his absence.

Before her thoughts could take her too far, the door to their room creaked open. Kalix walked in, his presence filling the room with its usual commanding energy.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, his voice low and smooth, though there was a subtle hint of concern in his gaze.

Winter pushed herself up, only to realize she was wearing one of Kalix’s oversized t-shirts. The fabric was soft, luxurious, and still carried the scent of him—comforting, yet undeniably sexy. She remembered that Kalix had cleaned her up the night before and helped her into one of his shirts.

“Better, but sore down there,” Winter pouted, the words slipping out before she could stop them as she pushed herself to sit upright.

But then something clicked in her mind, and her eyes widened in panic.

“Seren! She must be running late for school!” Her voice rose in alarm as she scanned the room, but Kalix was quick to reassure her.

“Seren’s already gone to school,” he said calmly, his expression unwavering. “Don’t worry. She’s guarded by armed men.”

The reassurance didn’t settle her mind. There was still an undercurrent of anxiety, a weight from everything that had happened yesterday, lingering in the air. But she couldn’t quite shake it.

Her thoughts were still racing when Kalix’s voice broke through again, his tone softer now.

“Do you want me to help you take a bath?”

Winter blinked, her heart skipping a beat at the suggestion. The thought was dangerously tempting, but she knew where it would lead. The mere idea of Kalix helping her in the shower would surely end with her losing all sense of composure—and quite possibly the ability to walk for the next few hours.

“I think I’m fine,” she muttered, averting her eyes to avoid the temptation.

Kalix chuckled softly, his gaze full of affection as he leaned in to kiss her forehead.

“You rest for the day,” he said gently. “I’ll be heading to work.”

Winter stared at him, her mind racing at the sudden change in plans.

“Why can’t I come with you? I said I’m perfectly fine,” she insisted, pushing herself to stand. But as soon as her feet hit the floor, her legs gave way, and she stumbled, falling back onto the bed with a small gasp.

Kalix’s eyes softened with amusement, though there was a hint of tenderness in them as he watched her. “Yes, I can see that,” he murmured, his lips twitching into a smile as she flushed with embarrassment.

Winter’s face reddened, and she tried to steady herself, frustrated by how weak her legs still felt. She thought she would be fine by now, but her body was still rebelling against her, like it had been drained of all strength.

“Looks like you’re staying here for a while,” Kalix said with a quiet chuckle, his hand brushing a strand of hair away from her face. “Don’t worry. I’ll be back soon.”

Winter, still blushing, huffed in frustration but knew he was right. There was no escaping the lingering effects of the night, and Kalix’s teasing only made it more difficult to ignore.

As he left the room, Winter sank back into the bed, letting out a long, exasperated sigh. She had wanted to be strong, to show him she was fine, but her body had its own plans. The only thing she could do now was wait—wait for the exhaustion to wear off and for Kalix to come back to her.
