Chapter 183: Chapter 183: They didn’t just wanted him gone
Eric hadn’t slept a wink. The weight of Agnes’s pregnancy pressed on his mind like a vise, refusing to loosen its grip. No matter how many times he replayed the past few months, one truth remained inescapable—she had lied to him.

Every time they were together, she insisted she was on the pill. Reassuring. Convincing. And he, like a fool, believed her.

And now? She had the audacity to betray him in the cruelest way imaginable.

He sat at the edge of the bed, staring down at her sleeping form. Her chest rose and fell in a peaceful rhythm, completely unaware of the storm brewing within him. His gaze drifted lower—toward her stomach.

It was too early to show, but he knew. That life growing inside her was his. And it felt less like a miracle and more like a chain tightening around his neck.

Yes, the sex had been good. Wild, even. But it was Winter he imagined every time, not Agnes. Always Winter.

And now this… this reality threatened everything.

She wasn’t carrying a child out of love. No, this was a weapon—one she hoped would bind him to her forever. A pawn in her twisted game to claim a man who was never truly hers.

Eric’s jaw clenched as he stood up and moved toward the window, his mind a cyclone of fury and calculation.

No.

She wouldn’t trap him. Not like this. Never.

He pulled out his phone, thumbs moving quickly across the screen. His expression was unreadable, lips pressed into a cold line as he typed:

“I know what you’re trying to do, Agnes. But I won’t let you succeed.”

He stared at the message for a beat before hitting send. Watching the text fly off into the ether felt like tossing a match onto dry kindling. Something was going to burn.

His eyes darkened, heavy with intent, as the weight of his words began to settle in his chest.

Whatever Agnes was planning—he would end it. On his terms.

Stanley’s investigation into Logan unearthed more than just a name. He discovered a buried history—one that connected Logan to Stanley’s own father in ways he hadn’t expected.

Both Logan and Victor—Stanley’s father—had grown up as orphans, discarded by the world and picked up by mafia recruiters who saw potential in the desperate and the forgotten. At the age of fifteen, they were thrown into a brutal world, molded into weapons before they could even decide who they wanted to be.

Their training was relentless, unforgiving. Loyalty was tested not through words, but through blood. The rite of passage wasn’t a ceremony—it was a mission, one designed to determine whether they lived or died.

Logan and Victor survived.

They completed their initiation tasks with a determination that caught the attention of the organization’s leaders. From that point forward, they were accepted into a group known only as Spincer—a name that, on the surface, seemed insignificant. But beneath its modest exterior lay an underground empire with global reach, hidden in plain sight.

As Spincer expanded its grip across continents, so too did the danger.

With growth came exposure. Enemies. Backstabbing allies. Law enforcement crackdowns. And worst of all—the cost of human collateral. The deeper they went, the more lives were put at risk. Not just theirs, but the lives of those they loved.

Logan remained committed, loyal to the cause that had given him purpose when he had none. But Victor began to question the price they were paying.

He had a family now—people who depended on him, who had no part in the sins he carried. And slowly, guilt began to erode the steel in his resolve.

He wanted out.

After one particularly successful mission, Victor voiced his decision to leave the organization. He believed, perhaps foolishly, that after all he had given, he had earned the right to walk away.

But the bosses at Spincer didn’t share that sentiment.

Loyalty in Spincer wasn’t voluntary. It was eternal. And betrayal—even if masked as retirement—was unforgivable.

“But what about you? Why did they let you live?” Stanley asked, his voice low, laced with confusion and a hint of anger.

Logan paused, his eyes darkening with something close to regret. “Maybe because I wasn’t a threat to them,” he said quietly. “But your father… Victor was.”

Stanley’s brows drew together. “What do you mean?”

Logan leaned back, the weight of old memories pulling at his posture.

“Victor knew too much. We both worked for Spincer, but he was always the one they trusted with their most critical operations. He had access to information most of us were never allowed to see. Blueprints, names, deals—he knew the skeletons in their closet.”

He exhaled slowly, almost as if the memory pained him. “He was their golden soldier. Their most effective weapon. But that kind of knowledge… it made him dangerous. Especially when he started thinking about walking away.”

Stanley swallowed hard, the pieces of the puzzle beginning to fall into place.

Logan continued, his voice heavy with realization. “Back then, I didn’t see it clearly. I thought they were just angry he wanted out. But now I know—it wasn’t just betrayal they feared. It was exposure. And Victor, with everything he knew, was a threat they couldn’t afford to let go”.

His gaze shifted to Stanley, more solemn than ever. “And if he ever tried to protect you from that world… then that might’ve been the final straw.”

Silence fell between them, thick and suffocating, as the truth hung in the air.

“And what was that mission they gave him—so critical that they had to kill him and my mother so mercilessly?” Stanley’s voice dropped to a cold whisper, heavy with restrained fury. The air around him seemed to chill, and his eyes burned red with the memory—blood-red.

The image of his parents, lifeless and drenched in crimson, was etched into his mind like a curse. He had seen their bodies sprawled on the floor, eyes wide open, their final moments frozen in time.

It wasn’t just a hit. It wasn’t just punishment. It was a message.

And now, the truth loomed like a shadow, darker and far more sinister than he had ever imagined.

Logan’s jaw tensed. He looked away, shame flickering in his eyes. “I don’t know the full scope of that mission, Stanley. But I know it involved something big. Something that could’ve brought Spincer to its knees.”

Stanley’s fists clenched at his sides, his breathing shallow.

“Victor was digging too deep. Things that were never meant to see the light of day. I warned him to stop.” Logan’s voice cracked at the edges.

“He told me he had to protect you all. That was all he cared about in the end.”

Stanley’s heart twisted. “And instead, they silenced him.”

Logan nodded grimly. “They didn’t just want him gone. They wanted to erase him. And anyone who could carry his legacy… including you.”

Stanley looked down, his knuckles pale as his rage bubbled beneath the surface. He had been chasing justice, but now… Revenge burned in his veins like wildfire.
