Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Let me hug you for a few minutes
Agnes was preparing for work when the door to her room swung open and an enraged Dorothy stormed in.
“Did you make a transaction of 10,000 dollars from your account?” Dorothy asked, catching Agnes off guard.
With her hand gripping the comb more firmly, she anxiously gazed at her mother through the mirror.
“I needed to buy a gift for Eric,” she lied, looking away and continuing to carry on with her errand.
Dorothy clenched her jaw and marched toward her daughter, forcefully making her turn to look at her.
“Don’t you lie to me, Agnes? I spoke with your manager, who informed me that you gave that money to Niko Ford. Don’t tell me you actually hired him to leak that news about Winter and her daughter.”
Agnes’s face drained hue the instant her mother uncovered her deceit. She was fully aware that her mother kept a close watch on every aspect of her life, yet she foolishly thought that no one would ever discover it.
Dorothy eyed her daughter cautiously, her silence revealing the answers she sought.
“Why would you do that, Agnes? Aren’t you aware of how much your father is struggling with everything that has happened because of that one piece of news? He also lost an important deal because of your foolishness,” Dorothy snapped, losing her composure, but instead of apologizing, Agnes retorted defiantly.
“So, what did you want me to do, Mom? I feel threatened by Winter’s presence in my life. You know how much I love Eric; what if she tries to steal him from me? I did that in order to get out of the country as quickly as possible.”
Dorothy chuckled incredulously as Agnes huffed and flashed her bloodshot eyes at her.
She recognized Agnes’s fixation on Eric, the man she had taken from her sister. But never once did she believe her daughter would be so foolish as to hit her head on the stone, bringing an immense loss to their reputation.
For years, they were able to keep the truth from the public, creating every story about her life. However, a single misstep by Agnes derailed all of their plans.
Winter’s life was now exposed to the public, along with her daughter, and despite their efforts to suppress the situation, they couldn’t completely eliminate it.
Dorothy let out a sigh and sank into the couch, feeling defeated.”You ought to have informed me about it, Agnes. Now, a single misstep has tied Winter to our existence for all time.”
Agnes’s eyes darted with anxiety as she hurriedly looked for her mother’s assistance. “Mom, I apologize. I wasn’t unaware of the repercussions. I just wanted Winter to be gone from our lives. However, I believe I have ruined everything.”
Dorothy fixed her inquisitive gaze on her. “Make a mistake? Be clear, Agnes, and this time don’t hide anything,” she warned, leaving no room for deception.
Agnes realized she had made a mistake, and if her father ever discovered her plan, he would show her no mercy.
“I will tell you,” she stammered, preparing herself to reveal her thoughts.
….
“Are you suggesting that Winter is being protected by someone and that the man you saw her with outside the hospital is the one?” Dorothy asked with Skepticism, and Agnes nodded in response.
“Or what other reason could there be for the news about her being removed, and who else would have the authority to dismiss Niko from his position?” “His entire career is ruined,” Agnes stated.
She might have carried on with her pretense, yet Winter’s threat remained a persistent echo in her thoughts.
She remained uncertain about how Winter discovered her scheme, despite having been careful all along.
Mom, I really need your assistance. “I don’t want Dad to ever see my foolishness,” Agnes pleaded with her mother.
Dorothy gazed at her daughter and gave a nod.”There’s no need to worry; with the news removed, he won’t give it a second thought. Indeed, we must continue to feed him the falsehoods that will deepen his disdain for Winter.”
She exchanged a vicious look with Agnes, who smiled in response.
Dorothy would not let Winter back into their lives, especially since Bryon had plans for her future.

“You should not have taken me away from there. What will the staff think?” Winter released her hand the moment they entered his room.
She had not intended to be here, yet this guy offered her no opportunity to refuse and led her to his room.
Kalix smiled as he closed the door behind him and gradually approached Winter.
The intensity of his gaze sent shivers down her spine.
“Don’t look at me like that,” she said, quickly averting her eyes from him. Her heart was already racing, making it difficult for her to maintain her composure in his presence.
Being in the same space as him was truly challenging, as she couldn’t guarantee what thoughts or actions might arise.
Kalix cupped her chin and had Winter look back at him. “And how am I looking at you?” he asked.
Winter gulped back the lump in her throat and pursed her lips. She sensed a tickling sensation throughout her body that she couldn’t fully understand.
The kiss from last night remained etched in her thoughts. She was unaware of what compelled her to initiate the kiss, yet now, being near him felt like a curse.
Winter yearned to express itself yet remained silent, unable to find the words. The overwhelming scent of his cologne evoked memories of that night. She couldn’t forget it, not even in her dreams. The mere thoughts of her vivid fantasies sent a rush of sensation through her, prompting her to step back.
“I need to get back to my room,” she said, attempting to escape, but Kalix quickly scooped her up in his arms and carried her to bed.
“K-Kalix, what are you doing?” Winter was startled when he abruptly set her down on the bed and enveloped her with his arms.
“Let me hug you for a few minutes before I leave,” he said, nuzzling his face into the crook of her neck.
Winter froze, sensing the warmth of his breath cascading over her skin, and then suddenly he pressed his lips to a spot she hadn’t realized was her most sensitive one.
