Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Did you find yourself thinking of me?
“It wasn’t necessary to be rude earlier. I wasn’t scaring him, okay?” Gina stated, taking a seat on the couch inside the lavish penthouse.
It was unexpected to witness her closest friend relocating to live with her child’s father. However, the question remains: what prompted this move?
“I understand that you don’t intend to, but your cheesy actions aren’t to everyone’s liking. And let me tell you, that man seems like quite a decent guy, and fooling around with him wouldn’t be a wise choice,” Winter elaborated, passing Gina a glass of water and joining her on the couch.
Winter wouldn’t have deterred Gina, aware that her playful charm would continue to attract all the handsome guys she encountered. However, Sean struck her as a genuine individual, certainly not the kind her friend would be interested in for a casual romance.
“You have no idea; even the nicest person can lose control in front of a sexy, hot woman,” Gina said with a playful wink, prompting Winter to roll her eyes in resignation.
Could there possibly be a way for her to reconsider? Don’t think so.
“By the way, why did you change your mind? You weren’t supposed to stay here forever?” Gina inquired, putting all the jokes aside., as she seriously decided to converse with Winter.
She had been so busy with her modeling assignments that she had little time to converse with her friend. However, her message from last night compelled her to abandon all work and fly to Country P to ensure everything was okay.
Winter let out a soft sigh and reclined slightly. “Grandpa was attacked once again and the results caused him to slip into a temporary coma,” she said, casting a sympathetic glance at Gina.
Gina already knew about the accident that necessitated Winter’s flight, but another attack was something she had not anticipated.
“Did you discover who it was?” she inquired, intrigued about who would attempt to harm her grandfather.
“We do not know yet. But I am sure Kalix is working on it,” Winter stated, putting Gina’s worries at rest.
“So this is why you decided to stay because Kalix wants to?” she said, seeing Winter from the side as an unexpected thought crossed her mind.
Winter gave her a bewildered glance before refuting her assertion.
“No, it’s not for him, but for the old man. He had been facing some threats for quite a while, and it was only after this significant accident that Hayes felt compelled to inform me about it. Furthermore, there are several matters within the company that have been occurring without his awareness. I appreciate my father’s actions, as he has once again shown his self-centeredness. However, I question whether he will attempt to seize control over the company’s decisions in his absence.”
With Hayes’ help, Winter was able to uncover the details of everything happening within the company and how Byron was managing it on his own. Her father’s reckless decision to outshine him resulted in two significant losses. She wondered if the attack on him had any connection to that incident.
“Do you believe your father is responsible for it all?” Gina asked, her gaze piercing as she regarded Winter.
“I’m not sure, but his refusal to ever come and see his father raises a lot of questions,” Winter remarked, her doubts slightly tinged with bias.
Greed consumed David, desiring only to possess all he believed was rightfully his. But because Byron was aware of his occasional impatience, he never truly trusted his caliber. Furthermore, the choice he made at that time when he married Dorothy caused the old man to perceive his son in a new way.
Byron may never voice it, yet he has always doubted his son. A person who could deceive his wife lacks honor, as do those he became involved with.
Gina nodded thoughtfully, comprehending her words. She was going to say something when a phone call interrupted her, forcing her to answer it first.
“Okay, I will be there on time,” Gina said before ending the call.
“Why do you need to stay in the hotel? Kalix has prepared a guest room for you, and you still haven’t had the chance to meet Star. She will reprimand me for not allowing her to wake up after you got here.”Winter expressed her dissatisfaction with her friend’s choice to rent a hotel room immediately upon arriving in Country P.
Additionally, she was supposed to meet Seren, who was sleeping in another room after engaging in extensive play with the staff member in the house. It was no surprise that Seren captured everyone’s heart. Her concealed talent captivated nearly everyone, drawing them into her charm.
“It wasn’t my decision; my team had already made the arrangements when I agreed to travel for a modeling assignment in country P,” Gina shrugged.
Winter could only shake her head in disbelief. Her friend may have thought about leaving her work behind, but her team wouldn’t allow her a moment of respite.
Once Gina departed, Winter proceeded to check on Seren, who remained in a deep slumber. Tucking her under the comforter, she walked back to her room, her thoughts swirling with the decision of whether to call Kalix.
Her thumb lingered above the name on the screen, but just as she was about to decide, the person called her instead.
Winter hesitated, her eyes nervously fixed on the screen, before she swiftly gathered herself and answered the call.
“Hello.” She was reluctant at the thought of her previous reflections, but Kalix’s words in reply took her by surprise.

“For how long were you planning to gaze at the phone?” Winter swiftly turned her head, surveying the entire room with caution before catching the sound of his laughter from the other end.
“Don’t look around; you won’t find anything,” he remarked, intensifying the furrow in her brow.
Winter questioned whether Kalix had installed a camera in her room, but she quickly dismissed the idea, aware of his meticulous nature regarding safety.
“Did you find yourself thinking of me?” His voice pulled her from her thoughts, and she lingered for a moment.
“I wasn’t,” she denied, “but I indeed wanted to talk with you about something,” she said, leaving the caller silent with her words.
