Chapter 24: Chapter 24: So please cease before I uncover your deceitful schemes and reveal the truth.
A cab arrived at Greyson International, and Winter emerged from it.
Her eyes sparkled with animosity as she gazed at the towering skyscraper, a mere representation of her grandfather’s relentless toil.
Winter was seldom noticed in the firm, and once she departed, everyone seemed to forget she had ever existed. Nevertheless, several of them recognized her from the earlier news and bowed to her as soon as she entered.
Winter would have never ventured into this area, yet every confirmation she received from Kalix drove her closer to uncovering the truth.
As she walked through the lobby, disregarding the inquisitive glances, one person was particularly taken aback by her presence.
Eric, having just exited another elevator and preparing to head to a meeting, stopped, confused.
“Winter,” he called out, but she had already entered the elevator with the other staff members.
She quickly made her way to the CEO’s office, but the receptionist at the front desk halted her progress.
“Pardon me, Miss. It is not appropriate to enter the CEO’s office without obtaining his permission first.” Linda attempted to intervene, but Winter disregarded her and forcefully swung the door open.
David, engaged in a conversation with his assistant, paused as his attention was drawn to the entrance, where his daughter burst in.
“Miss, you cannot—” Linda’s voice faded as David halted her, showing his hand, and she gently bowed, stepping back.
“Let us discuss it later,” David said to his assistant, who walked out of the room, leaving the two alone.
Silence fell between the two before David broke the ice.
“I always knew you didn’t care about our reputation, but by appearing in my office, you’ve shown that you take after your mother,” David taunted his daughter as he recalled the relentless behavior of his late wife.
Winter peered at her father, a subtle smile playing at the corner of her lips as she stood before his table, arms crossed.
“I always recognized you as a man devoid of compassion, someone who showed no concern for your father, who nearly lost his life not just once, but twice.”
David furrowed his brow as Winter’s remarks served as a caution. “Are you here to reprimand me for not being present for Dad? If that is the case, I would be glad to share with you that his absence has caused significant disruption within the corporation, and as CEO, I must manage its operations. There is no time for emotions.”
Winter chuckled, amused by her father’s remarks. “Obviously, why would you feel sensitive when everything unfolded as expected?Ultimately, you have always desired to assert your full rights to your name.”
Winter leaned in, placing her hands on the large rectangular table, her eyes engaging as she observed the shift in his expression.
She found herself in awe of how a man so consumed by greed could ultimately be her father. He did not receive any of Bryon’s traits, nor did she receive any of his.
‘God’s grace.’
David was caught off guard when Winter swiftly accused him of the accident, and he broke free from his panic.
“Keep quiet. Do you really believe I’m responsible for the accident?” He tightened his jaw as he watched Winter shrug.
“I have not stated that before. I merely pointed out your desire to possess the company as the rightful owner,” she remarked, pulling out a chair for herself and settling in.
With a playful glance at her father, she twirled the chair around a little.
David felt a surge of anger rise within him. He felt an urge to silence her, but he refrained. He refused to give his employees a different impression of him.
For years, he presented himself as a respectable individual who prioritized his company and family above everything else, conveying an impression of a congenial person. He was out in public without a single flaw, as he managed to conceal everything expertly. When his father threatened to strip him of his CEO title due to the harm he inflicted on the company through his lack of skill, how could he possibly let any mention of his shortcomings slip out?
“You know what? Leave this place before I take matters into my own hands,” David warned, struggling to tolerate the calm look on her face.
“That is not something you will do, Mr. David Greyson. Kicking out your child will not diminish your flawless reputation, but it will also raise a lot of questions in their mind. I am sure you won’t let that happen.” Winter halted and gazed intently into David’s eyes, a commanding expression that provoked a snarl in reply.
“I have come to realize the source of this confidence. You believe that by revealing those pictures of you and your daughter, I will allow you to return home.” David’s eyes betrayed his profound animosity as he furrowed his brow.

It was clear why he held such disdain for her. Whenever he encountered her, he recalled a person he ought to steer clear of.
Winter crossed one knee over the other and thoughtfully stroked her chin.
“Regarding that… why don’t you look at this, Mr. Greyson?” Winter took out her phone and shared a video of Agnes and Niko’s encounter at the bar.
David’s eyes widened as he overheard their conversation, noting how Agnes handed Niko the money and asked him to leave.
“It’s no surprise that your daughter mirrors your deceitful nature.” David shot a fierce look at Winter as she snatched her phone from him and rose to her feet.
“I always believed you were perceptive enough to grasp that I left the house because I could no longer endure you or your family. If my intention had been to damage your so-called reputation, I would have done it long ago,” Winter said, her expression growing somber as she looked at her father with vacant eyes.
David opened his mouth to argue, yet the words felt stuck in his throat.
“I understand your intentions, Dad, so please cease before I uncover your deceitful schemes and reveal the truth.” Winter’s warning astonished David.
Her one glance at him sent shivers down his spine, and she quickly turned and walked away.
As soon as Winter stepped outside, she ran into Eric, who was expecting her with an anxious look on his face.
His curiosity compelled him to trail her from the foyer until he witnessed her enter the CEO’s office.
Winter cast a glance at Eric, and without a word, she walked past him, leaving him unattended.
“Winter, can we talk?” Eric inquired, hoping Winter would spare him a moment. He intended to apologize for his earlier disrespect, but Winter, in her ignorance, did not pause and entered the elevator, choosing to leave right away.
SHE had just exited the building when she spotted a familiar car parked in the distant corner.
Without hesitation, she moved toward the car, got inside, and soon drove away.
Unbeknownst to her, Eric, who continued to trail her, had witnessed her driving a car that did not belong to her, leaving him with a lot of questions.
