Chapter 26: Chapter 26: I will not spare anyone who dares hurt my woman
After dropping Winter off at the penthouse, Kalix headed to J&K Internationals.
Upon entering his office, a profound silence enveloped him.Lilac sat on the couch, her head bowed low, while Sean stood in one corner, seemingly subject to the old man’s punishment.
Sylvester saw his grandson make his way further into the room and stand in front of him.
“You two, leave,” he commanded, gesturing to Sean and Lilac, who instantly fled the room like two frightened mice seeking a way out.
When the door slammed shut, Lilac and Sean let out a collective sigh of relief. However, within a few seconds, they turned, resting their ear against the closed door, attempting to eavesdrop on the talk.
Meanwhile, inside the dead drop silent room, Kalix stepped in and took a seat in his executive chair, his eyes barely meeting the old man’s until he spoke.
“Why would you terminate the Palazzo project? You realize we invested millions, but you didn’t think twice before terminating it.” Sylvester expressed his disapproval with Kalix’s imprudent choice to cancel a project that was both an investment and a profitable transaction to improve their market value.
“And since when did you start doubting my decisions, Grandpa?” Kalix remained calm and indifferent to Sylvester’s criticism.
Kalix took over their family firm more than seven years ago after his older brother Roger rejected managing it. Rather than participate in the underworld-related business, he chose to manage his father’s business, which he founded against his grandfather’s wishes.
Slyvester relied on Kalix’s extraordinary vision to build the firm over years without doubt, but when he stepped back from an investment his grandfather made a few months ago, it suddenly bothered him.
Kalix darted cold eyes at Sylvester, warning him with his words. However, the old guy instantly controlled himself and stated, “As a chairman, I have the right to criticize your judgment. After all, it isn’t just about money; it’s also about ethics. Don’t you think a wrong word outside the company could make our investors question our work ethics?”
“I know what I’m doing, Grandpa. But it’s unusual of you to side with someone so fairly. You’ve never been that way before. Is there anything exceptional about this particular arrangement that you don’t want me to terminate?” Kalix asked, taking note of Sylvester’s sudden change in tone.
Sylvester may never know that Kalix was aware of his motives for accepting the deal with Greyson. It wasn’t about making money, but about monitoring Byron and himself.
The old man merely stared at his grandson. He may have managed to persuade Kalix to his side, but he could never truly control him. This was not limited to just him, but also extended to all his grandchildren.
“You believe I don’t understand why you behave the way you do. It’s all for that girl, right?” Sylvester remarked, his voice dripping with mockery as he stared directly into Kalix’s eyes.
Kalix’s demeanor quickly turned dark, but he remained composed
“If you are aware of everything, you must understand that I will not spare anyone who dares hurt my woman. The outcome will be worse every time somebody dares to lay their finger on her.” Kalix’s statements were a stern warning that didn’t spare Sylvester.
He was aware that the old man was opposed to the whole Winter thing, but in order to keep him on edge, he needed to be unambiguous. Nobody, not her family or his, has the right to hurt her.
Kalix’s declaration completely shocked Sylvester. He left no room for nonsense and challenged him straight in his face.
Unable to control his anger, Sylvester spun around, grabbed the door handle, and pulled it open, ready to leave but…
“Ah,” Lilac and Sean stumbled forward, leaving the old man more than irritated.
These devious mice were attempting to overhear their conversation, and when they were caught, they acted in complete ignorance.
“Oh brother, there is something I need to discuss with you,” Lilac said, coming up with an alibi.
Sean, also caught red-handed, rushed to his defense. “Boss, should I bring you your black coffee?”
Sylvester could only stare at the two in utter disappointment before walking away.
When the old man was out of sight, the two heaved a sigh of relief.
“I thought he caught us,” Lilac muttered, placing her palm on her chest, and Sean nodded in agreement.
Kalix shook his head helplessly and resumed his attention to his task. He pondered how these two could be so self-assured when they knew they’d been busted.
Lilac jerked out of her reverie the moment she remembered something and dashed toward Kalix.

“Brother, is it true that you terminated the contract with Greyson International?” She inquired curiously to confirm what she had overheard them say inside was true.
Kalix returned his gaze to the file after glancing at his sister.”Yes, I did,” he replied.
Lilac’s brow wrinkled as she struggled to fathom Kalix’s decision. Someone who was willing to put in as much money as he could to make the initiative a success suddenly drew back. But then something clicked in her thoughts, and a smile spread across her lips.
“Was it for Winter?” she said, nonchalantly grabbing a chair for herself to settle in front of the rectangular table. Her eyes shine with eagerness.
Kalix arched his brow and gawked at Lilac. Her curious conduct irritated him at times, but he could never get frustrated because he knew her intentions were never malicious.
The three siblings had a strong kinship and stood by one another during times of difficulty. However, one of her decisions forced him to act against his choice, and he had to step forward to teach her a lesson.
“Don’t you have any work, or should I call Grandpa back?” He questioned, leaning back a little and seeing her face turn crimson with fury.
“You’re really awful, brother. Even after you did the gimmick of putting a tracker in my phone, I’m still trying to be good, and you still want to test my patience, Lilac retorted.
Kalix scoffed, ignoring her warning, and said, “As if that’ll stop you from going against Grandpa’s decision. Tell me what you intend to do this time, Lilac. Agreeing to hang out with Damien is not settling.”
Kalix’s words hit the mark, scaring Lilac about the act she had just pulled by agreeing to go out with Damien.
“I am serious this time,” she replied, disregarding his inquisitive glance.
Kalix gave her a brief glance before nodding in agreement with her claim. “If you say so, but let me warn you, Grandpa will not spare you if you dare to pull another trick like before, Lilac. Neither Roger nor I would be able to help you,” he warned, alerting Lilac to the situation. However, she refused to budge.
“Don’t worry, I won’t do anything,” she said, despite feeling a strange sensation crawling in her heart.
