Chapter 27: Chapter 27: We can no longer allow David to manipulate the board members.
When Winter arrived home, Seren was already awake, and the moment she spotted her mother entering the house, she dashed towards her.
“Mommy, why did you let Nana go? I wasn’t able to meet her at all.” Seren expressed her disappointment after learning that her Nana had visited, but due to work commitments, she couldn’t stay longer and had to leave.
Winter sighed and bent forward to lift Seren into her arms.
“I am sorry for that but she did mentioned to stop by once her work ends,” Winter reassured, observing the excitement radiating from Seren’s face.
“Is Nana staying with us?” she exclaimed joyfully.
“No, not with us, but she will be around for a while now,” Winter said, managing to preserve some of the happiness for her.
Apart from her mother, the strongest bond she shared was with Gina, her godmother, and learning that she was nearby, Seren couldn’t wait to spend time with her.
Cradling Seren in her arm, Winter began to ascend the stairs, when a phone call interrupted her. Quickly pulling it out, she looked at the screen and frowned. Without hesitating, she answered it immediately.
“Hayes, is everything alright?” Winter asked without hesitation, but the words she heard next made her turn on her heels and exit the house.

Meanwhile, Dorothy chose to visit the office to see her husband. However, she came across the news about Winter visiting David from the gossip going around.
She hurried to the CEO’s office and burst into the room.
“Why would you allow Winter inside the company? And for what did she come here?” Dorothy inquired as she approached his table.
The anger on her face was evident; however, one fleeting look from David served as a caution.
“To show me what a stupid daughter we gave birth to,” his angry words halted her and made her face pale.
“W-what do you mean?” Dorothy hesitated as her mind wandered back to the encounter she had with Agnes.
‘Did he find out the truth?’ she wondered, feigning innocence with her expressions.
“Are you aware of what Agnes did? She hired that foolish journalist to release those pictures of Winter and her daughter into the public eye,” he flared, expressing his anger.
Dorothy’s eyes widen in realization.’It seems he is aware of the truth.’ she pondered.
David was deeply troubled by the stunt Agnes pulled, showing a lack of regard for the repercussions of her actions. Fortunately, before he could take action to dispel the rumors, the news was removed. Nevertheless, that did not imply he was prepared to forgive her for her folly.
“How are you so certain? What if it’s a Winter idea to frame Agnes? “Dorothy attempted to defend her daughter by putting all the blame on Winter.
She acted at that time, fully aware of how everything functioned, and David would hold Winter responsible for Agnes’s pain.
David looked at his wife, then reached for the phone on the table and played a video for her.
Glad to Winter, who happened to send him the proof, just so he would be reminded of his foolishness in even thinking he could defy her.
Dorothy stared in disbelief as she observed Agnes handing money to Niko while urging him to keep the truth hidden and escape.
For all this time, she believed she had an opportunity to manipulate David, as Winter was not inclined to face her father. However, she was mistaken, and now Winter’s audacity led her to reflect on Agnes’s belief that someone powerful was supporting her.
“And do you know what she said?” Dorothy fixed her gaze on David, eager to hear his response. “She warned me to stop everything I’m trying to do, or else she would expose me.”
David scoffed as he remembered the words Winter had spoken before leaving. He may view her as a weakling without support, yet her words did evoke a response within him. He found it impossible to trust her now that she was once again standing against him.
“I’ll discuss it with Agnes, but David, what should we do about Winter?” We can’t allow her to destroy everything for us,” Dorothy cautioned, capturing David’s contemplative gaze.

She refrained from revealing to him what Agnes had discovered about Winter, sensing that it wasn’t the appropriate time. However, she would inform him once his anger had calmed down.
David also reflected on her words. He needed to exercise caution, yet he was determined not to allow anyone to sabotage his plan, not even his alleged daughter.
“Don’t worry, I will come up with something to get her out of this country,” he said; however, Dorothy doubted it would be as simple as before.

[ Hospital]
“This is a significant advancement.Today, a slight movement of his fingers gave us hope that Mr. Greyson won’t remain in this stagnant state for long.” Winter felt a sense of relief wash over her as she heard the doctor’s affirming words.
She could finally see the hope and hear the old man scold her once again. Even his reprimand was his unconditional love for her.
After a while, the doctor departed, leaving Winter to remain by Byron’s sickbed, cradling Seren in her lap.
“Mommy, when will Grappy wake up? I want to play with him,” Seren asked, her worry for his health evident.
She was unaccustomed to seeing him in such a vulnerable state, so when the doctor said he would soon wake, she couldn’t help but confirm it.
“Soon Star and he will be back fit and fine,” Winter assured, now that the doctor had given her a heads-up.
Winter sent Hayes to the canteen since the man was unwilling to part with Byron, disregarding his own health in the process. The attack did leave a sense of regret in him and not to forget her words that worked as fuel for his guilt.
Hayes could finally relax after Winter revealed that she had indeed chosen to accept Kalix’s help; however, the question of marriage was still not on her agenda. As long as they had his backing, it didn’t matter to him. Yet, beneath it all, he believed Winter deserved the opportunity to find happiness once more.
After Hayes came back, Winter took the opportunity to speak with him, while Seren remained beside Byron, reassuring her mother to take care of him.
“It’s Richard who sneaked into his room to attack him,” Winter disclosed, leaving Hayes surprised; however, he wasn’t entirely shocked, as they had already suspected it.
“Then we should swiftly locate him before your father decides to take control. He is already circulating rumors about Mr. Byron’s slow recovery and is planning to hold a meeting with the board members regarding the takeover of all company-related decisions.” Hayes revealed David’s ruthless scheme to truly seize control of the company, stating, “If he manages to secure enough votes, then every decision will rest in his hands.”
He set up a scheme against Richard, trapping him in the money laundering scheme and blaming Byron for ruining his career. Now that man is pursuing him for revenge, when in truth it should be David in his place.
“Kalix is addressing the situation, but we can no longer allow David to manipulate the board members.” Winter exchanged a significant glance with Hayes, who responded with an approving nod, as if they were in perfect harmony.
